  1. Yes,I'm very intgersted in the Amish lifestyle also,so I'm intruiged by these books.
  2. Yes,me too,I have to re-read,can't remember books 5-7!!
  3. Oh I have these on my wishlist, sounds very promising. Can't wait now!
  4. "There goes my hero, watch him as he goes, there goes my hero,he's ordinary...." -Foo Fighters - My Hero "You ask for me to enter, and then you make me crawl and I can't keep holding on, to what you got, when all you got is hurt.." - U2- One Love "It's a shame we have to die my dear, no one's getting out of here alive.." Foo Fighters - D.O.A "For you, there'll be no more crying, for you,the sun will be shining and I feel that when I'm with you,it's allright,i know it's right..and the songbirds keep singin' like they know the score and I love you, I love you, I love you, like never before.." - Fleetwood Mac - Songbird "They say the skies of Lebanon are burning, those mighty ceders bleeding in the heat. They're showing pictures on the television, women and children dying in the street. And we're still at it in our own place. Still tryig to reach the future through the past, still trying to carve tomorrwo from a tombstone, but hey don't listen to me.." - Paul Brady - The Island.
  5. The first Jodi Picoult book I read was The Pact, which I would recommend, however as others have said, My Sister's Keeper is excellent and also Change of Heart.
  6. I read this late last year..I would have to agree with the reviews on Amazon,I had very mixed feelings about it. I'd find i would just start to get into it,when it slowed right down again, and that seemed to be the theme througout. It teneded to wander all over the place and could get fairly tedious in places, slightly rambling about irrelevent things. I'm a big fan of The Wizard of Oz,which is why i wanted to read this book, but I think if you or your daughter has no interest in this,it probably wouldn't hold your interest for long.
  7. Yes,there was a very similar group to Flawless last year, although their name escapes me. I think they went quite far in the compettion. I thought they were better than the eventual winner last year,George Sampson, though I did like his 'Singin' In the Rain' routine.
  8. Hiya, welcome to the forum. Enjoy!
  9. I completley agree. The implications in the book are very subtle and i dont think young children would pick up on them unless they knew about the halocoust. Read this book a while back,I was really moved by it and defnitly enjoyed it.
  10. Oh I thought of another book. I used to love, love, Fantastic Mr.Fox and George's Marvellous Medicine both by Roald Dahl. I must have read these books about once every month!!
  11. okay here goes.. 1. To Kill a Mockingbird - Harper Lee 2.Harry Potter Series - J.K Rowling 3.The Memory Keeper's Daughter - Kim Edwards 4. My Sister's Keeper - Jodi Picoult 5.Let The Circle be Unbroken - Mildred. D Taylor
  12. I also vote for Professer Umbridge!! Hated her!!
  13. Hiya Liz,welcome to the forum .
  14. I haev to agree with Kell, although she could certainly hold a tune and did sing that particular song quite well,I have heard better, much better actually. As a few people have pointed out,I think it was just the shock of hearing how much better she was than what everyone thought she was going to be. Guilty of that myself, because i expected her to be buzzed right off! I really enjoyed the dance troupe Flawless (So much better than last year's winner George Sampson). Absolutely loved the old gu who thought he was Gene Kelly,so funny with Dec dancing at the end!
  15. "Wars came early to Shanghai, overtaking each other like the tides that raced up the Yangtze and returned to this gaudy city all the coffins cast adrift from the funeral piers of the Chinese Bund." - Empire of the Sun - J.G Ballard
  16. Oh I love Wuthering Heights! First read this in school and while most of my classmates hated it,I really enjoyed. I kept my copy of the book and still have it. I think I re-read it twice after school,I've been meaning to read it again..I loved Heathcliffe in it..
  17. hiya Joe and welcome to the forum and enjoy!
  18. Oh I had loads of books as a child, lots of memories coming flooding back!! I loved,The Babysitter's Club, Sweet Valley High,Goosebumbs series,Point Horror series. I also loved the Judy Blume books, especially Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing and Blubber-read them so many times when I was younger,I must dig them out again!! I was also a massive fan of Enid Blyton books, especially The Famous Five. I'm getting so nostalgic now! I still have a lot of these books,I'm glad I kept them now as I'd like to read them to my daughter (Or any more kids I might have) when she's older, she's 2 and she loves books so..
  19. I read, a few months back, a book called Tell Me Why, Mummy by Dave Thomas. An autobiography of a young man who was abused, both sexually and physically by his mother from a very young age. I'm not really sure why i picked this book up from the library as its not my usual type of book, i find far too upsetting to read,I think I find it more so since having my daughter. I totaly understand that unfortunatly this sort of thing happens to a lot of people and its a sad fact of life, but something about this book really left me feeling uneasy for a long time after i had finished it.
  20. Yeah, that's what I thought..Hmm..Prefectionists?!
  21. Oh good, I didn't just make that up! Does seem to be taking quite a long time because I remember reading about it a good while back..
  22. I agree with this. Didn't I hear that there is a film version of Angels and Demons in the works? Or did i just dream that up?!
  23. Yes, I completely agree, I voted for Angels and Demons,it defnitly made me want to visit Rome. I enjoyed this story far better than The Da Vinchi Code although I enjoyed this aswell..I felt their was a bit more suspense in this book and also thought it was better written also.
