  4. Giving your child freedom to some extent is good but to the level she did it is more like neglect
  5. The book I am reading at the moment Proust and the Squid by Mary Anne Wolf. It's about how we learn to read and the development of written language. I'm only on chapter 3 but it's very interesting so far, it's been talking about how different alphabet's and words/languages in written form developed.
  6. I liked Salem Falls, Roxie, not my favourite but still good. Speaking of buying Jodi Picoult books I'm happy to lend any of my paperbacks if people are unsure (postage on hardbacks is a bit much, but I will lend those too if people are willing to pay postage). And I have a bookring for Second Glance around somewhere
  7. It still lingers but is better than it was so fingers crossed it will be completely gone soon. x

  8. I liked Lollipop Shoes well enough, but not as much as Chocolat, still better than some of Joanne Harris' books, I tend to find I either love or hate her books
  9. I may well do that then. Thanks
  10. I have lived my life in the service of words Proust and the Squid- Maryanne Wolf
  11. Hia Daydreams, to the forum. Sounds like you'll fit right in

  13. I had some Green and Blacks vanilla earlier, yumm yumm
  14. That's good. I hope the new one isn't too bad, but even if it is I guess it's good long term.

I'm not bad, still have the lingerings of my cold which I've jad for like a month now, but hopefully it will be completely gone soon. Have been tired cause of work too but I really like my job so I don't mind.

  15. I have almost bought The Conjurer's Bird in the past but wasn't sure enough to actually buy it. Is it worth buying or should I just add to bookmooch?
  16. Hia,

How's your jaw? I haven't noticed you mention it in a while (having said that my online time has gone down since starting my new job so I may have just missed it)

  17. Hia,

Haven't heard from you for a while. How are you?

  18. I will. Am only about 10 pages in at the moment so a bit early to tell
  19. Oh I love Hitchhiker's Guide! Are you planning on reading the rest of the series?
  20. I's non-fiction. It's about how we read, and how reading developed.
  21. lol which haven't you read? Perfect Match is kind of similar, and a good one too, although a somewhat hard subject to read about. I haven't read Salem Falls for a while actually, but I have too many new books for re-reads
  22. Not sure what to read next, possibly Proust and the Squid
  23. The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society Synopsis (from Amazon) It's 1946 and author Juliet Ashton can't think what to write next. Out of the blue, she receives a letter from Dawsey Adams of Guernsey - by chance, he's acquired a book that once belonged to her - and, spurred on by their mutual love of reading, they begin a correspondence. When Dawsey reveals that he is a member of the Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, her curiosity is piqued and it's not long before she begins to hear from other members. As letters fly back and forth with stories of life in Guernsey under the German Occupation, Juliet soon realizes that the society is every bit as extraordinary as its name. Review Hmm what to say. This book wasn't what I expected, I expected it to be more about the war but that was only part of the plot. I did enjoy it but I expected to enjoy it more. I don't really have anything of great interest to say about it... I don't really like it when books are written in letters as this one was, but when it comes to that style this was a good one. I became more attached than I usually do to the characters, although even at the end I was a bit confused as to who was who. 3/5
  24. lol I know what you mean lexie, I prefer the old style too
  25. oh no! Grr I hate movie covers
