  1. Have put my review of this up on my thread and my blog now.
  2. Gone With the Wind by Margaret Mitchell Synopsis (from Amazon) Set in Georgia at the time of the Civil War, this is the story of headstrong Scarlett O'Hara, her three marriages and her determination to keep her father's property of Tara, despite the vicissitudes of war and passion. This novel won the Pulitzer Prize. Review This another book that is difficult to review without spoilers, so there will be a few blanked out bits, but hopefully not so many that it's impossible to get a spoiler free review! Scarlet I found very difficult to like, she's so selfish, and narrow minded and she thinks so much of herself- although the last one does give some laughs (but maybe only because I don't like her). There were times that I began maybe to like her, or at least respect her somewhat, because she was strong, even if not for the right reasons. Despite not liking her I did want it to come good for her in the end I did like Rhett though, he might not have seemed the nicest guy but at least he was honest about it, and I always felt that behind it all he was basically a good guy. I was expecting the book to be more of a romance, but really I found it was more about the Civil War- and the time after. I liked that about it as I knew next to nothing about the civil war before, and history does interest me. Something about this book that made me a little, uneasy shall we say, was that it actually made me understand where the Ku Klux Clan could be coming from, a kind of vigilantte justice. It didn't actually go as far as to make me agree though, just to see ther side of things. 4.5/5
  3. Hia, welcome back!
  4. I tend to get books on 3 for 2 at waterstones, and occasionally the extra one, so probably no more than
  5. Both. I like his attitude I suppose, even when he is good Spike, and he's still the bad boy even when he's...not
  6. I'm a Spike fan myself....
  7. Oh that's good, I wish mine would do that!
  8. I finished today. In the end, even though I didn't like Scarlet I wanted things to turn out right for her, is that odd? When looking for a synopsis for my review I came across Rhett Butler's People, which is the story from Rhett's perspective, could be a good read, has anyone read it?
  9. I have been meaning to start using the library again. I visited pretty much weekly for a while but got out the habit while at uni and now I don't even know where my library cards are. I am also awful at remembering to take books back
  10. Rhett Butler's People? I just came across it on Amazon and having just finished Gone with the Wind thought it might be worth a look.
  11. Finished Gone with the Wind and started Definitely Dead
  12. lol, before I joined here it was rarely more than 3!
  13. Saw Ponyo Sunday. Was good, funny, it kind of reminded me of The Little Mermaid.
  14. Black Books
  15. Am almost 700 pages in to Gone with the Wind now, getting close to the end
  16. I don't think my TBR pile has ever been this long before, 31 books. You people are a ad influence!
  17. Am about 600 pages in now and Scarlet is at the wedding in Atlanta.
  18. Am now about halfway through Gone With the Wind (which is 500 odd pages) and just started volume 2.
  19. Saw The Book of Eli today which was good, if a little slow starting. Probably going to see Ponyo tomorrow.
  20. Oh I really want to read that spoiler now!
  21. Never Mind the Buzzcocks
  22. I will. My sister left a note saying she read it and enjoyed it but that her OH gave up after 2 chapters (I won't give up that soon because I refuse to give up before 100 pages!) Today All Together Dead and Definitely Dead arrived in the post for me, am planning on finishing Gone With the Wind first this time!
  23. Have finally stepped unto this thread. I'm almost at page 400 ( ), which is less than halfway through but enjoying it. Took me a while to get properly into, while not being to the point that I considered giving up, it started to get good when but really didn't get going for me until she got to Atlanta. So far I don't really like Scarlet, as a person, she's selfish, and big headed, sort of thinks she's centre of the universe and everyone should love her, and even does despite evidence to the contrary, but she's a good character to read. I think Rhett it my favourite character. I like how he doesn't really care about conventions or what people think of him, but I do think he's a good guy under it all. I love how he can totally disarm Scarlet and how she will go from loving him one minute and saying she always will for something or other then hate him the next because of some comment he's made.
  24. On chapter 20 of Gone with the Wind. Got Midnight's Children for my birthday
