  1. I have 'No Country for Old Men' it was kind of irritating to read, a lot of 'ands' for no good reason, although you do eventually get into the style of writing. The film version wins hands down.
  2. Books Read: 34 Books Half Read: 1 Favourites: Nightwork - Thomas Glavinic Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas - Hunter S Thompson 2001: A Space Odyssey - Arthur C Clarke The Raw Shark Texts - Steven Hall The Master and Margarita - Mikhail Bulgakov
  3. Have since finished 'The Lord of the Flies'. I liked it but I was a bit let down by the ending... Started 'The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time last night, am liking it so far..
  4. I finished 'And Then There Were None' a few days ago now and loved it! I asked my mum whether she has read any Agatha Christie and she told me that when she was younger she had just about every one of them, I wish she kept them as now I want to read them all! Over the weekend I broke my big toe so have had a couple of lazy days off, have started 'Lord of the Flies'.. not sure if I'll like it, am still in the first few pages though. On Goodreads people have either loved it and given it 5 stars or hated it and have given it 1 star hmm...
  5. I finished 'The Seance' as of about 20 minutes ago, just before my stop at Town Hall! I've highlighted on my first page as a book I'd recommend, I found it kept me guessing right till the end and as I said above was easy to get straight in to. I probably would have preferred reading it in one sitting rather then to and from work due to rather noisy people on the train lately. ETA: Looks like I'll need to go book shopping at lunch!
  6. I started on 'The Seance' last night by John Harwood, so far it's easy to get into and doesn't waffle on unlike some books that are set in the Victorian era I find tend to do. I also finished 'The Picture of Dorian Gray', it was ok, nothing spectacular, the reason I read it was it always seems to be on those 100 top books to read lists. I'd give it a 3/5.
  7. Definitely recommend the above and The Nightstalker: Life and Crimes of Richard Ramirez by Philip Carlo. The only other true crime book I've read so far this year is Zodiac by Roberth Graysmith which was very good as well.
  8. Finally got through 'Living Dead in Dallas' definetely won't be continuing on with the series. Have started on 'The Picture of Dorian Gray', which it's going good so far, I was a bit hesitant to start it because I've found that it's one of those books where you either love it or hate it plus I've had a running streak of reading books that have left me feeling underwhelmed one after the other lately (minus Master and Margarita). Have added quite a few books to my list thanks to wasting time on goodreads!
  9. - When people say 'they must have a really good camera or that camera must take nice photos' when they don't bother to recognize it's the photographer that put the effort into composing a nice photo. It's like saying 'the strings on that guitar play nice music...' - Another thing that bugs me is when companys don't bother to tell you when something isn't in stock anymore. I ordered two pairs of shoes from the US website a while ago, I waited the usual four weeks postage time thinking they were in the post, which they weren't. All this time they didn't bother to email me at all to tell me that they don't manufacture one of the pairs I wanted anymore. It was only when I emailed them to see what the go is with my order they told me. I questioned them if I hadn't have emailed would they have even bothered to tell me eventually. They chose to completely sidestep that and ignore. Only the last few days they've fixed up my order and have given me my tracking number! Not a happy camper!
  10. I remember those books when I was in Primary school! There's always something new to spot each time you looked through it.
  11. In the book The Master and Margarita, the phrase 'from devil knows where' always pops up. I can't remember if that's the exact wording but it's something along those lines.
  12. Gahh still stuck on this book! I think partly because I'm stuck in a I-have-no-idea-what-to-do-with-my-life crisis at the moment... Will hopefully soon report back with some books crossed off my list!
  13. Have since finished Master and Margarita which I've highlighted on the first page as a book I'd definitely recommend. I've started the second book from the Sookie Stackhouse series 'Dead in Dallas' I'm finding it a little boring and far fetched. I know it is a fantasy book where supernatural stuff is supposed to be normal but it's getting borderline stupid now. I did like the first book for a quick read but I think after I finish this one, it'll be all for the series unless I get around to watching the tv show it may make a difference..
  14. Besides reading I like photography! Have been into it a little while self teaching in particular astrophotography. Although it has been a few weeks since I've taken anything, it's been far too cold outside lately. Other things - I love playing around with Sims 3 - Sewing when I can be bothered, simple swing skirts, dresses. - Collecting records, I don't really see it as a hobby though or plan to make a profit from doing so. I just love rummaging through them looking for a certain one, the big artwork, I plan on getting albums absolutely love, it makes it a bit more special to me anyway. (And I like to play them not keep them wrapped up in their sleeves!)
  15. I'm happy with my efforts so far this year. Compared to last year I read a measily total of three books. Since February I've read 28 books and have 21 or so books I'd like to get through. I've managed to stick to my plan of buying three books from my wishlist and don't buy anymore until I'm about to finish the 3rd book. I love being able to keep track of my progress on here and on Goodreads. I've found a few gems that sound promising whilst looking at other peoples TBR lists. I've discovered some absolute favourites and only about 2 or 3 books that I read the majority of but just couldn't push through to the end. Forgot to add: As for mojo I've lost it twice so far, I needed a break from reading as I was going from finishing one then diving straight into the next but all seems to be okay for the moment usually I'll switch to listening to my mp3 player for a little while.
  16. 'The Good Sheperd' (I think it's called), is a total waste of time. Time I'll never get back.
  17. I started reading The Master and Margarita a few days ago and am absolutely loving it so far. For some reason I get a 'Studio Ghibli-esque' feel from it especially the part ( I won't hide it as I spoiler as I it's where I'm up to..) where Behemoth the cat and Koroviev are on stage in the theatre performing their trickery before the audience. The translation is fairly good, a few words could have been switched around to make more sense. The one I picked up is by Richard Pevear I only found out later that the one by Michael Glenny supposedly flows a little better.
  18. I've never read a book that's made me cry. Not even close. To prove I'm not made of stone I have cried over one movie, Grave of the Fireflies, and that was animated!
  19. Valley of the Dolls - Jaqueline Sussan By the end of it I felt like slapping each character for being so stupid. Cujo - Stephen King Waffled on right from the start, the kid was far to whiney and annoying.
  20. This isn't my most favorite but it's definitely near the top.. Angus and Julia Stone - Paper Aeroplane I spilled the ink across the page trying to spell your name So I fold it up and i flick it out Paper Aeroplane It wont fly the seven seas to you Cause It didnt leave my room But it awaits the hands of someone else The garbage man So he opens it up and reads it out to all his friends Amongst the crowd a heart will break and a heart will mend He walks on home tired from work The letter falls from his hand He reaches out only to catch the sky Its gone with the wind I spilled the ink across the land Trying to spell your name UP and down there it goes Paper Aeroplane It hasnt flown the seven seas to you But its on its way It goes through the hands Then to someone else To find you girl
  21. Ooh that's on my TBR list! Let me know how it goes
  22. Haven't read for what seems like a long time, I started reading No Country for Old Men but couldn't get into it. Yesterday I forced myself to finish it and today I only have about 20-30ish pages to go. It's okay, not great, one of the main reasons it has put me off is I really don't like the way it's written. Way to many 'ands'! E.g pg 102 'He left the office with the key in his shirtpocket AND got into the Ramcharger AND drove down around to the side of the building AND parked AND got out AND walked down to the room carrying the bag with the receiver AND the guns in it. That's exactly as it is throughout most of the book. I think I prefer the movie.
  23. ^^ It is Kell, I have seen the film but can't remember much of it as it was a while ago now. I have to admit I'm struggling to get through it though I am having a bit of a break from reading at the moment.
  24. I'm a guy who has come across a bad drug deal in the middle of the desert with everyone involved slumped over dead, I've found a suitcase full of money in one of the trucks and I'm currently on the run. I think the owner has just spotted me.
  25. I've lost it again, last time was around begining of April I've read 10 books between then and now one after the other. Am trying to get through No Country for Old Men but it's a struggle, lately I've been listening to my mp3 player on the train instead of reading.
