  3. Hello, Wilde Lily. Just thought I'd pop in and wish you a Merry Christmas! :D

  4. Your avatar is very amusing, Vladd. Welcome to the forum!
  5. I just heard about Britanny Murphy. I wasn't a huge fan of hers, but it still feels so odd when a celebrity dies...

  7. At this stage, I despise everything played in the store I work. If you're forced to listen to Pokerface 12 times a day, it kinda starts getting on your nerves a teensy bit... follow that with a we-so-wanna-be-cool-again attempt by the Backstreet Boys, and you know it's going to be a long day...
  8. Hello and welcome, nightingale!
  9. Today I bought Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil by John Berendt and The Voluptuous Delights of Peanut Butter and Jam by Lauren Liebenberg. That's 4 books bought in total this week... But I will not feel guilty - it's Christmas afterall.
  10. I haven't read any of the books, but my boyfriend tells me that they have a very humorous tone and plenty of action - as they seem to be portrayed in the film, so I suppose they're keeping things in context with the novels at least in some aspect. I'm looking forward to seeing it.
  11. Ghostwalk by Rebecca Stott. I really wasn't expecting to enjoy and find it as intriguing as I did. It really is a brilliant novel and a rare mixture of historical fact and imaginative speculation.
  12. I have the children's illustrated edition of this book. I thought it was a very imaginative and original story. I saw the adult version at a bookshop recently, but didn't think it would be any different from the one I have... but I'll take a peek next time and perhaps purchase it if I like what I see.
  13. I think they're rather catchy. I'm not a huge music fan, but I thought their first album was quite witty and entertaining.
  14. Welcome to the forum, Rachel!
  15. I met my boyfriend around the time I read my very first novel by Anne Rice - Blackwood Farm. I think I was 17 or 18 at the time.
  16. Today I bought Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell by Susanna Clarke and American Gods by Neil Gaiman. I can't wait to get reading glasses next month, so I can actually read without being plagued by headaches! I have a stack of books waiting.
  17. I've been thoroughly addicted to Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles. I remember spending my last bit of cash on The Vampire Armand in college one month. I also plan on some day reading the entire Discworld series by Terry Prachett. Some day...
  18. I haven't been reading much, but I did buy the "official" sequel to Dracula - Dracula The Un-Dead, by Dacre Stoker and Ian Holt.
  19. I loved the action scenes. It made the entire movie. I thought the werewolves in particular were done very well and I was impressed that the vampires had some action scenes, too - I thought it gave some life to them, whereas in Twilight they were rather dull and without any definite personality. Bella and Edward in love was also more intriguing in this film; more convincing. I do think, though - and this is nitpicking, I know - that they should do the vampire make-up better in the next movie. I can tell that the men especially are wearing a heap of white make-up (it's very visible on their hands in a couple of scenes) and too much reddish lipstick.
  20. No, I haven't seen the movie, but I definitely intend to do so after reading the book!
  21. I'm glad that you're enjoying that book, Nicola. I very much adore Anne Rice's work, myself. Would it be okay to list a week and a half of book activity? I've been a busy one-eyed reader . I finished One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest by Ken Kesey, which I enjoyed very much. What struck me was I also finished The Piano Tuner by Daniel Mason, a book I started a while ago and then put off for some reason. I took it with me the day of my eye operation and when I began reading it again, the story just swept me along and it turned out to be a wonderful adventure. Finally, today I bought Anne Rice's new novel - Angel Time. I'm looking forward to starting it as soon as possible. I want to see what new ideas she has now that she's abandoned vampirism.
  22. I went to see New Moon, today, and I really enjoyed it. I thought the werewolf action scenes were probably the highlight of the movie - although I hope next time they work a clothing budget into the film for them boys... all those exposed chests made me blush... Overall the film had more of an actual storyline to it and I was impressed - I think I enjoyed it more than I did the book.
  23. Hey, Echo. Thank you for the friends request, I'm sorry it took me so long to reply. :D I hope that you're doing well and that you have a fun weekend. :)

  24. Welcome to the forums, Barb. I love Terry Pratchett's work as well.
