  1. Actually I quite want to read American Psycho. A few work colleagues have said it's very disturbing but a good read if you can stomach it lol. I'm intrigued though now
  2. I'm glad I wasn't the only one I think it was the last book that ruined it for me because the first two were very good, especially the second one (the film was the biggest let down though - like they'd picked parts of the book and shoved a film together in complete disarray lol)
  3. My old housemate used to go to Weightwatchers and she gave me a fab Carbonarra style recipe which I use all the time when I want to feel like i'm eating something stodgy without having too much fat and calories. Ingredients (adapted to how many people you're cooking for): pasta red onion mushrooms philadelphia light milk garlic (you can add peas/sweetcorn/even bacon if you wanted to) -cook your pasta mix together one large tablespoon of the philly with three tablespoons milk (beat with a fork so it's nice and creamy) -while your pasta is cooking brown off the mushrooms, red onion and garlic in a pan (and whatever ingredients you wanted to throw in) -turn down the heat and then add your milk/philly mixture mix altogether so it's made a carbonarra sauce - pour over cooked pasta and voila! creamy low fat heaven lol!

    Evening all

Hi Paul and welcome! I'm fairly new too and everyone is very nice!
  6. Sex and the City box sets! My indulgence, especially when I'm ill. Oh and Friends too!
  7. Yeah it's just confusing flipping from one person to another, because I forget who I'm reading about and then have to restart the section lol
  8. Thanks for the comments everyone! It helps me to know I'm not being dumb by struggling to read it lol :-) I'll try to persevere on, because I definitely think it's going to be worth reading as it is a classic. I still don't understand why they have to print it in such small type mind you he he
  9. I can't get to in to the Black Magician Trilogy because of the way it flips from one characters thoughts to another (highly confusing!) so I decided to start on a classic, Wuthering Heights, I'm only on the third chapter though because it's so damn hard to read as the writing is sooo tiny! Why do they do that with the classics? Why can't they print them in normal size font? I find that I'm reading and re-reading the same sentences because I lose my point on the page it's a nightmare! Apart from that I think it's a bit soon to decide whether I'm enjoying it but I do really want to persevere with it. Has anyone else read it?
  10. I adored the movie and have seen it 5 times! I think it is meant to be awkward - the awkward chemistry between them and sexual tension I think that's the point. I think it's unrealistic to expect the thoughts etc to be projected on the big screen that's why you need to read the books so that you can know what Bella is thinking. My mum said that she thought Bella was "difficult" in the movie but she'd not read the books. Now she's just finished reading Twilight and she understands her mind so much more. I'm a complete Twi-harder so I'm biased though
  11. Ooh is it really good? I'm getting that one next then going to start on the Kelley Armstrong Otherworld books someone suggested on here
  12. I adored the film! A lot of people I know who read the books were moaning that they were too serious or that it was rubbish but there's no way you can portray a characters every thought on to the big screen. And they were serious characters! Edward particularly I thought he was a really torn and sombre character. Haven't read The Host but I'm planning to once I get paid, I can add to my book collection lol! x

  13. I read the trilogy last year and I enjoyed the first book and adored the second but by the time I'd finished the third, I just felt like Philip Pullman had some huge vendetta toward religion....just sorta spoiled it for me personally but other than the ending I really enjoyed the books
  14. Aw thank you! I'm obsessed with Twilight at the moment :-) I just want to be Kristen Stewart right now lol although I have 7 years on her age which is depressing ha ha x

  15. I have Digital Fortress and I have to say it's a bit dull...Deception Point sounds quite good though!
  16. I find the 'ye olde speak' quite difficult as I have to keep re-reading sentences to make sense of them. Also, with old books I've noticed that even though they've been printed recently the text is always sooo small! I'm not an old lady but I struggle to find my sentence sometimes lol
  17. If I'm reading part of a series (i.e. Harry Potter or recently the Twilight Saga) then I can't live without contining straight on to the next book. Sometimes I've got so involved with the characters that I have to mentally switch off from them before I can pick up another book, especially if the writer of my new book has a different style of writing to what I've just been reading, that can confuse me a little and I have to re-read lines to take it in
  18. Thanks Bethany! Oooh I loved the whole series, it's going to be so hard to find something as good, I really adored the characters on a personal level. I loved Jasper and the relationship with Emmett is ace too! I've started the second book in the Black Magician Trilogy but I find Trudi Canavan's style of writing hard to take in but will keep persevering! I've posted on the forums for some suggestions too lol I actually had a glance at that on Stephenie's website and although I didnt get chance to read it I will give it a read this weekend. It's always great to see things through someone else's eyes too
  19. Defo loving the T-Mobile Dance ad! Hate the Cilit bang ones....
  20. I've just finished the 4th book, Breaking Dawn today. I have to say I adored all the books and I'm gutted I've finished them...in the space of two weeks! I love Edward's character, he seems really gracious to me, especially in Eclipse (without spoiling I hope!) with the Bella/Jacob situation. I like how Stephenie Meyer reflects Bella's low self worth in the book as I think that's something every girl feels at some time or another in real life, I also engaged well with Bella's character as she's very clumsy and has bad luck - it could've been written about me! Some parts of the 3rd and 4th books were dragged out a bit by descriptions but generally I don't view that as a bad thing as it does help me visualise the scenes the author is setting. I give them 9/10!
  21. Jacob Black annoys me so much in Eclipse! He really is awful and takes advantage of situations! I give the books 10/10 because of the romance - I'm not a girly, chick-lit book type so this is a kinda good balance because I get the action, but not too girly love story. I loved New Moon - it even made me cry and only one other author has managed that - JK Rowling - and was annoyed with Eclipse but I still loved it anyway. I feel pretty involved with the characters at the moment lol
  22. I have Treasure Island and the Magician's Guild books. I've read the first Trudi Canavan book and have yet to pick up the next two. I haven't read Treasure Island, the text is quite hard to get in to I think but I reckon it will be one worth persevering with...

    Hello!

Ooh exciting thank you - I'll check the threads out when I've finished Breaking Dawn, I'm only about 1/3 through so got a way to go yet and I'm looking forward to finding out how everything ends! And thank you everyone for the lovely welcomes! Haven't had chance to browse over the weekend but hopefully get a proper chance tomorrow. Hope everyone had a nice weekend!
