  1. Decided to add a rating out of five to each book, so this has been added on the post with my book list towards the beginning of the thread, and I will update each review with the rating as well.

    Rating (out of 5):

0 So awful, words cannot describe.

1 Poor, but still readable, or possibly just not my cup of tea.

2 Ok, acceptable but could do better.

    3 Good, enjoyable read.

4 Very good, recommended to others who like this author/genre/subject.

5 Excellent, an incredibly memorable work.

  2. I'm sorry you didn't like The Beach House, Nightwish :) I enjoyed it a lot when I read it, and felt it was actually a return to form for Jane Green. I'd loved her first four or five books, but went off the next few, but this one was much better and more of the thing I wanted to read. I'm not saying it's a perfect book, but I certainly felt it was one of her better books of recent years, and I enjoyed it as a good holiday read.

  3. I think it's one of these activities where a total beginner would benefit greatly from being physically around people who are already familiar with doing it. Never mind.

I really must stop hijacking threads, I do apologise.

First up, you're not hijacking the thread - we're more than happy to help! :)

I think you need to start with a simple small project. I started cross stitch with a small acorn design card from The National Trust. It came in a kit, with all the threads, material and needles, plus a card to mount the cross stitch in, and excellent instructions on how to complete the project. I didn't have anyone around who could help, but to be honest, I found it very easy to follow the instructions that came in the kit, and didn't need any help. You can get small kits for cards for a few pounds, so are a good indicator of whether you would actually enjoy cross stitch or if you need assistance. Either way, I'm sure most of us would be willing to assist with queries.

  4. I have been meaning to start using the library again. I visited pretty much weekly for a while but got out the habit while at uni and now I don't even know where my library cards are. I am also awful at remembering to take books back

My library send me an email two days before each book is due back, so I rarely forget now!

  5. I recently read The Carbon Diaries 2015 by Saci Lloyd which is a YA book and I really enjoyed it. I wanted to check it has been released in Australia, and found a brief review by The Age, and they've actually covered the sequel as well if you like the first one (but no spoilers about either in the review). My review is here, but it's got a bit of romance and a look at a near future if global climate change starts to make a big difference, so it's sort of a science fiction but based on reality.

  6. Welcome back Steeeeve!

Ahhh. Why is it so relaxing to talk about books? I don't think I actually know anyone who reads much.

I'm in the same boat - I think that's why I love it here so much
