  1. Captain Corelli's Mandolin. So many people talked about how this was their favourite book ever, yet I was so underwhelmed by it, I even put fingers to keyboard on amazon.co.uk to explain my 1 star rating - something I'd never done before, nor since, on any book I've read (although now I come here to vent my spleen instead).

  2. Breaking Dawn Stephenie Meyer

I am now totally bereft as i have finished all of the Twilight books. They are not that well written and the plot and characterisations are not that well defined but there is just something about them that is totally irresistible.Ii will be reading all of the books again soon this year. Just pure pleasure to read and i so want an Edward.

    10/10

That sums them up perfectly, Joe! I think that if you've loved them as much as that, then they'll definitely stand up to rereading them (which I've done many times!), but I'd also say, as a fan of Edward you should read the partial draft of Midnight Sun (available on Stephenie's website). Just an extra fix for the Twilight fan :D

  3. I only read for pleasure, however, some of my books are educational and I do learn from them, just not related to my work and most are science books. After taking an A level in Environmental Science a few years back (purely for fun), I've gained an interest in natural sciences and environmental issues, so do try to read non fiction around this subject. Fiction, though, is always for pleasure and escapism.

  4. I recently researched this as I have been reading through Northanger Abbey where Austen makes several references to it :D

I noticed quite a few titles in Waterstone's on Saturday that looked familiar, including this one and The Monk, and I wondered if one of the publishers has decided to reprint some of these gothic novels referenced in Northanger Abbey.
