I saw it, Raven, and it did make me laugh! The WAG was so funny - one minute sounding quite intelligent with the languages and the discerning palate, the next thinking Gordon Brown was ginger!
Had a DVD fest while sewing today, so I've seen listened to Twilight (with commentary), Connie and Carla, Laws of Attraction and The Thomas Crown Affair!
I'm sure I remember my favourite teacher reading us James and the Giant Peach, and she was my teacher from when I was 7 until I was 9, and I think I'd already read Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by then.
I haven't read any of them, but I put the following into google site:http://www.fantasticfiction.co.uk nordic runes and it comes back with three books, so that might be a starting point for you
Hmm, I thought Evermore was fairly ordinary and nothing special or original, so if the series is getting even less original, I'm not sure I'll bother with this one ... maybe borrow from the library only. Thanks for the review though, Kelly
I love these type of books, and have read quite a few! Some of the more memorable ones are:
A Year in Provence by Peter Mayle (France)
Italian Neighbours and An Italian Education by Tim Parks (Italy)
Extra Virgin and Ripe For The Picking by Annie Hawes (Italy)
Driving Over Lemons, A Parrot in the Pepper Tree and The Apple Blossom Appreciation Society by Chris Stewart (Spain)
Almost French: A New Life In Paris by Sarah Turnbull (France)
Under The Tuscan Sun by Frances Mayes (Italy)
Obviously there's a European bias here, and they're all non-fiction (I think I found them all in the Travel Writing section in book shops) but these are the best of the ones I've read.
I'd recommend both the Alex Rider series by Anthony Horowitz and the Young Bond series by Charlie Higson. Excellent action spy thrillers.
Alex Rider:
1. Stormbreaker
2. Point Blanc
3. Skeleton Key
4. Eagle Strike
5. Scorpia
6. Ark Angel
7. Snakehead
8. Crocodile Tears
Young Bond:
1. Silverfin
2. Blood Fever
3. Double or Die
4. Hurricane Gold
5. By Royal Command
I know it's off topic, but couldn't resist - is a boostore the shop with all the awful, unreadable books in, where you walk in the door and boo them all because they're so bad? I love the idea of it
I'm glad I'm not the only one who didn't get on with that book. I read it a couple of years ago - hated the style completely, in fact, the only good thing about it was the whippet!
