Catching up with Pointless from earlier

Not enjoying much, to be honest. I don't like that there's a big back story for Clara, I wish we could just go back to having an ordinary human companion, and it's probably just me, but I don't feel like there's much depth to The Doctor's character at the moment. During more than one episode, I've found my mind wandering, and even felt my eyelids drooping a couple of times. But, hey, you know me - still pining for the tenth Doctor!

Thanks frankie I started Life Class by Pat Barker today. It's quite short, but about a third of the way through, and it's going well so far, but I'm not sure where it's going at the moment.

Got my books for next month from my book group today - we're reading Life Class by Pat Barker, and The Time Machine by H. G. Wells. A kind soul in the group also lent me Man Walks Into A Room by Nicole Krauss, as I'd enjoyed The History of Love as much as she had.

Finished Jane Eyre. Enjoyed it far more than the first time I read it, but not sure why!

Treating myself to toast with wild strawberry jam

I'm two thirds of the way through Jane Eyre now, and enjoying it much more than my first reading of it a few years ago. Not sure why, but the first half seemed more lively than I remember, although I'm just about to get to the part where which I know I struggled with during my first reading.

When I was a kid, I always wanted to be George from The Famous Five books. I was never a "girlie" girl, and loved my train set and my bike, and being an only child and a bit of a tomboy, I always envied George, firstly because she had a dog (I'm mildly allergic to them so I could never have one) and secondly, because even though she was an only child she spent the holidays with three of her cousins, so she always had people to have adventures with!

I've always been under the assumption that the upward inflection at the end of a sentence comes from Australia - I remember when it first started becoming more common over here, and it was not long after the time that Neighbours and Home and Away were first broadcast in the UK. There was a lot of newspaper column inches and media discussions around it at the time, and it doesn't feel quite as noticeable to me any more. I do, however, notice it when watching and listening to Australian television and commentators. As a big fan of Masterchef Australia, we always chuckle at how Gary Mehigan, originally from the UK, has taken the Australian accent and the upward inflection at the end of his sentences. It's also prevalent among both Australian and New Zealand commentators when listening to the cricket.
