  1. We've got a few of these that i bought for my OH over the years. I'll dig them out and list them, and then maybe when you're going to watch them you can let me know Michelle, and we can compare notes.
  2. I've been thinking about this since you first posed the question, Emily, and I can't think of anyone! My life is not perfect but it's pretty good most of the time, and I'm fairly placid and easy going, so I can't imagine ever having the sort of life or displaying the sort of animation or drama that would inspire anybody. Much happier to read about those types of people
  3. Very blustery today - the sun was out earlier, but the cloud has moved in now, and the wind is making it a bit chilly, but at least it's dry!
  4. Glad to hear you enjoyed The Postmistress, Diane. It looks like we both felt the same about it, and I agree with exactly what you've said! I liked the fact it was set in the US too, as most of the war books I read tend to be either set in the UK or Europe, so it was interesting to get that different setting too.
  5. Blondie: Greatest Hits - have been reliving my youth through my iPod recently!
  6. Tea and toast, then an almond croissant with coffee about an hour later! Have been active and exercising this week so not feeling too guilty.
  7. Have you seen the film adaptation of The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, Alexi? It's an old 1960s film with Maggie Smith as Miss Brodie, and I absolutely love it - it's one of those films I saw as a teenager and it struck a chord with me, and I've loved it ever since, getting more out of it as I grew older. I have read the book, but one of the rare occasions where I prefer the film to the book for some reason, and can't quite put my finger on why, as I did enjoy the book, but the film has a place in my heart.
  8. I've just finished The Various Flavours of Coffee which was a mighty read, but well worth it. Reminded me a bit of The Crimson Petal and the White - same sort of flavour.
  9. I would definitely recommend The Hand of Fear - we watched it not long ago, and although I'm not a big fan of classic Who, I thought it was pretty good. Although I think The Talons of Wang-Chieng is a good story, ventriloquist dummies freak me out, so it was a "watch behind the cushion" story for me!
  10. I'd recommend a couple of Kathleen Jamie's books - Sightlines and Findings. The books are like a collection of essays, on travel, nature, and history, but are very easy to read while being interesting, thoughtful and beautifully written.
  11. Finished Single In The City by Michele Gorman this morning (bought three of her books over the last few weeks as she was a featured author on here, and wanted to try out her books after having a bit of discussion with her), and I enjoyed it. Definitely in the romcom genre, but with the fish out of water story of an ex-pat in London, and thankfully, doesn't have a happily ever after ending, but a realistic, albeit optimistic one. Have two more to read soon Started The Various Flavours of Coffee and about 25% of the way through, and loving it so far.
  12. I'll be interested to hear what you think of Life Class, Kidsmum. I read it recently, and still can't make up my mind about it! We're discussing it at my book group in a couple of weeks, and I can't wait to find out what the others made of it. I loved The Enchanted April, it was just wonderful. There's a film adaptation of it that I keep meaning to try and find, but I just loved the book. Also love the Rumpole books - they are so funny, and I love Rumpole's sardonic wit and turn of phrase.
  13. I've finished a couple of books in the last couple of days - The Westerby Inheritance by M. C. Beaton, which was entertaining but rather fluffy, and Death an Wentwater Court by Carola Dunn which was a cracking little read.
  14. Bit dodgy first thing this morning, but has turned into a smashing afternoon, bright and sunny, although a bit breezy.
  15. Janet, although it's been years since I read it, I absolutely adored The Diary of a Provincial Lady! It's long been a book I've been meaning to revisit, so I hope you enjoy it too.
  16. May has started bright and beautiful where I am so far, and looking good for the Bank Holiday weekend too. I'm going to be have a weekend of reading and not doing much else! What's going on with you today?
  17. We're a bit late with the new thread this month! I think the first of May may have passed everyone by. Anyway, I finished my last Kindle freebie for a few of weeks, Branded by Keary Taylor, which was actually pretty good, but am now going onto the books I bought in my huge spending spree last week (eleven books for £13 ) and the others that were already on my TBR, so they should keep me going for a while! Also had an eBook I had pre-ordered become available today, for the princely sum of 84p, and my copy of Little House in the Big Woods for the June reading circle is ready for collection at the library, who have reduced their reservation fee down to £1, so that may be my book spending for the month complete. Not sure what to start today, so off to peruse my list over a cuppa.
  18. It's a beautiful day (hey, hey)
  19. With regards to those that follow your thread, Michelle, I have to say it's quality not quantity that matters! I have loads of books on my wishlist that have come from your thread, and it looks like I have a couple more to add based on the last couple of posts.
  20. Lovely here too!
  21. Decided to bake an apricot loaf cake when I got home, so that's in the oven smelling delicious as I write. Will hopefully see us through into the middle of next week. Looking forward to the bank holiday weekend, and hoping for plenty of reading time.
  22. For the first time in months, I didn't have to keep my fleece on all day in the office!
