  1. What's a "cheap Hobbit"?
  2. Home made pizza.
  3. A little packet of Mini Cheddars.
  4. Modern Family The new episodes start again on 23rd March … can't wait!!!!
  5. I'm almost halfway through The Incorrigible Children of Ashton Place and I'm really enjoying it.
  6. Sounds like another fantastic trip, June. I've had a good day, getting some more sewing supplies, and a lovely visit with my Dad, then some hand sewing this afternoon. Not very exciting, but lovely nevertheless.
  7. Ok, you've definitely sold me on The Case of the Missing Books now … it's been wishlisted!
  8. Ooh, interesting times ahead then! I look forward to discussing it with you … I've just looked up The Sky Is Everywhere as I'd not heard of it and it looks promising. I'll look forward to seeing what you think of it. Fingers crossed Half Bad will come down in price at some point.
  9. I think I wrote quite a good review of Mr Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore when I read it, but was disappointed at the conclusion, and now after some time, I don't have many fond memories of reading it as the ending has dominated my thoughts. I think if I wrote the review now, I'd be more critical! I know that's not everyone view of the book, and there have been lots of others who've enjoyed it, so I'll be interested to hear your thoughts on it, Brian.
  10. Haven't had time for the read-a-thon this weekend, but it'll be Easter next month, so I'll hopefully have more time then.
  11. I know we're going a bit off topic here, but I only remember wearing a fancy dress costume was for the Queen's silver jubilee celebrations, and I went to the street party as a packet of crisps … the Smith's Salt'n'Shake crisps with a little blue packet of salt! No photographic evidence exists, thankfully. I think it was easy for my mum, who wasn't good at sewing, as it was an old white sheet with some coat hangers and just painted the design on. We never did anything at school for dressing up that I remember, and definitely nothing related to book characters. I have to say, I'm glad about that as I hate dressing up!
  12. Today has been even nicer than yesterday, it almost feels like spring. If the weather could stay like it was today, I'd be very happy … not too warm, but lovely sunny, blue skies.
  13. It's amazing to have been shortlisted, so you can be proud of that anyway, and you never know, there's always a chance …
  14. There was a lovely article in the Guardian this week from Andy Robb about YA book bloggers and why he set up the awards: http://www.theguardian.com/childrens-books-site/2015/mar/06/uk-ya-book-blogger-awards-andy-robb
  15. I think it probably would, Noll! I hope one of you do read it, as I really want to discuss it with someone.
  16. Congratulations! One of the better things to come home from holiday with.
  17. I really enjoyed the Elizabeth Peters books … I've read the first seven while they were all 84p on Kindle which the whole series was for a long time, and then I looked again, and they've all gone up to between £2.37 and £5.99 now. Wish I'd bought the lot when they were cheap!
  18. Been a beautiful day here ... 10ºC this afternoon but with no wind to make it feel cold. I went out in a jumper and fleece but ended up carrying my fleece as it was so warm.
  19. Friday night means it's tomato and mozzarella pasta bake
  20. It was not Miss Penelope Lumley's first journey on a train, but it was the first one she had taken alone. The Incorrigible Children of Ashton Place: The Mysterious Howling by Maryrose Wood
  21. We'll call it even then! I see my role as the facilitator … I give you the book to read, you write the great review, people buy the book from your review … everybody wins!
  22. I know it's a bit of an old thread, but some of my favourite books from my early reading years were Ladybird books, and it's interesting to look back at them and how they portrayed society at the time … this was prompted by reading this article on the BBC News website: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-leicestershire-30709937
  23. Oh I agree, I perhaps didn't make that clear! But, still, others sound inappropriate too. These seem much better … http://www.theguardian.com/childrens-books-site/gallery/2015/mar/06/world-book-day-costumes-cats-rats-hats-your-pictures
  24. Glad you and Alan enjoyed Cat Out Of Hell, and now everyone else has seen your review, I'm sure there'll be lots more readers of it too! You make it sound much better than I did
