  1. Went into Waterstone's this morning, but came out with empty hands … I've *got* to read some more of my TBR before I buy any more books now. I did start The Dark Tourist and I'm thoroughly enjoying it. For some reason, I thought it was about 400 pages, but it's actually 267, so I'm hoping to finish this afternoon.
  2. I really enjoyed Fibber in the Heat … I like Miles Jupp as an actor and comedian, and what I liked about the book was this it was in my era of cricket. I've tried to read a couple of other cricket books, but I didn't even start watching it until I was in my twenties, so lots of them talk about players and matches I had no idea about, so to read about players and journalists I know, drew me in. I think it gets better as it goes on too, so if you've liked the first third, I'm sure you'll enjoy the rest.
  3. We'll happily be waiting patiently for you, whenever you do get chance to read it. As you can see, Noll and I have plenty to say about it!
  4. Did do any reading yesterday afternoon Definitely starting The Dark Tourist today.
  5. Yes, I've read most of them since she was one of the featured authors on her a couple of years ago. I've still got Perfect Girl and The Curvy Girls Club to read, but they're in the jar waiting for me. She writes modern romcoms, although it's not really about girl searching for Mr. Right, but more often about girl realising she's somehow drifted or settled, and she searches for a better life with a bit of romance along the way.
  6. Re your additional point: And yes, of course you could include our discussion! The author's website has all her contacts
  7. I'm going to spoiler tag this just because I don't want to give anything away to anyone else who might read it. No, I don't think you missed anything.
  8. Raining and the temperature has dropped again. It did get up to about 12ºC earlier in the week, but back down to the low single figures again now ... I've just put the fire on.
  9. You've trained him well! I started The Wolf Princess by Cathryn Constable today, but I also need to start The Dark Tourist by Dom Joly for my book group this month, but it's a very large paperback that won't fit in my bag I'll have to try and read it at home, but I've just realised I won't have much time before the meeting in which to do that … better stop enjoying myself on here and pick it up now.
  10. Was this the window you were thinking of? http://www.imdb.com/media/rm4238052608/tt0339291?ref_=ttmi_mi_all_sf_16
  11. I saw the film before reading the book, although I think, if I remember correctly, I'd heard of it as a book beforehand from discussions on here. If you do read and enjoy the book, I would definitely recommend the film, I thought it was great adaptation. In fact, I actually bought the DVD for friends for Christmas a couple of years ago, and they enjoyed it to.
  12. I thought I was the only one who did that! It's much easier with a kindle now though
  13. Yay, I think you'll love Murder Most Unladylike! Saw this tweet and thought of you, Kay https://twitter.com/MicheleGormanUK/status/576340292728664065
  14. Excellent review … I'm too tired to discuss it tonight, but I'll be back tomorrow!
  15. I'd never even considered reading the last few pages of a book until I saw Billy Crystal's character do it in When Harry Met Sally and I went through a stage of doing it myself, but I've stopped myself now, as most of the time it didn't make any sense out of context, and then when it did make more sense as the book went along, I felt cheated that I already knew what was going to happen!
  16. Goodness Anna, that's the first negative review I've seen of Reasons To Stay Alive, but you have to be honest and say what you feel. I have to admit, I don't think it's a book for me anyway, but I've seen plenty of praise for it elsewhere.
  17. Vaguely related to this topic … I loved this gallery in the Guardian of premier league footballers picking their favourite books
  18. I like writers who play with language, words and structure, so I'm definitely intrigued by the Calvino. Great review, Kay, made me chuckle as usual!
  19. The final of the Great British Sewing Bee
  20. There was a doozy this week when he reviewed Unfinished Business
  21. Willoyd, I'm impressed you could face reading the second of the Dan Brown books … it was bad enough reading the first! I only read The Da Vinci Code because it was a book group choice, otherwise I'd never have picked it up, and even if I had, I'd have thrown it down after a few pages.
  22. I finished The Last Dragonslayer during my lunch break today - instantly recognisable as a Jasper Fforde book, I really enjoyed it. Glad you thought it was excellent!
  23. There's also a spin off series of The Ellie Chronicles which I think are another three books
  24. I know that it was dry this evening as I drove home, but it was dark already and I have no idea what the weather's been like today.
