  1. Yes, I think that's rather appropriate
  2. Dyson airblades scare the **** out of me, I half expect actual blades to come zooming out.
  3. ..... ..... ..... I choose not to voice my response as my word choice might get me banned.
  4. I think he was talking about Kell, I replied in the topic.

  5. I think he was talking about Kell. You asked why she doesn't go to a live show, and Beef said coz they have security to restrain people like her. It was a joke.
  6. Yup, I would agree with Janet. As a general rule I hate movie adapations, and I think my affections for Mr. Wilde are widely known around here. I think the 1945 (I think?) black and white adapation does the job just fine, it's classic, not extreme. I think I like classic adaptions of classic books - and I've reiterated a few times here that I'm not judging it as a movie in it's own right at all, I can't do that when I haven't seen it. Of course, I also don't like the implications for the original novel if the movie is introducing a new generation to a totally different story to that Oscar wrote, and they favour it over Oscar's.
  7. I don't even know who Glenn Beck is! Anything related to such areas just doesn't even register on my mental scale if that makes sense. I don't like using political terms, but if I were anything, I'd be so far liberal I'd be off the edge of the spectrum. I don't like things that try to shock, but I'm happy to read things that push boundaries without being gratuitous.
  8. Tis a very good thread in fairness, and I'm glad everyone is being mature about the discussion. I must say that even though I'm not religious, I also don't read anti-religion books. Obvious example: The God Delusion. I don't just avoid religious or spiritual fiction/non-fiction, I avoid anything supporting the other side of the argument either. To me religion is redundant either way, and I don't feel the need to read about either side.
  9. Yup, and it says it all about the human race.
  10. I watched the explanation on youtube. I must say, if nothing else, when he's explaining what he did not do, I've not seen a magician quite as charismatic since The Illusionist
  11. Well based on what Janet said, they did butcher it. I'm probably going to watch it and come blazing into this thread raging about it.
  12. Yeah, it may well be that reading just isn't her thing - some people are more visual than others, which is why maybe games or movies would appeal more. It is a shame though, as books rule. Having said that, I'm a serious console-gamer myself and there's a lot of value in some of the games out there, so it's not the end of the world if she does like her X-Box more.
  13. Sex doesn't bother me, believe me It's sex that wasn't in the original book, that bothers me.
  14. This topic has been addressed before, but only from a lending perspective I think, so yes, chat away people, do you lend/borrow, and if you do one, do you NOT do the other? I'm curious about that myself. I personally tend not to lend, I just buy new copies for other people Or, give mine away for keeps. I rarely borrow, and I'm sure I've poor ole Gyre driven demented as I have one of her books with ages!
  15. Ah yeah I getcha now
  16. My non-belief doesn't impact on my reading, not reading religion or spiritual texts is the same to me as not reading chick lit - it's just not my thing. I also read The Shack, Janet, and I enjoyed it to an extent, even though the ridiculous promotion scheme around it killed any credibility it might have had.
  17. *thumbs up*
  18. I'm not religious in any way and there's nothing I wouldn't read. Except books on religion.
  19. No problem, it happens Tis what we Mods are for
  20. I just merged these two threads, as they basically start with the same question.
  21. Really? The synopsis just... didn't do anything for me.
  22. Just finished Too Close To Home, and I have to admit I was a little disappointed by the end. I thought it was a bit flimsy really. Still, great book up to that point.
  23. Em yeah, I would generally suggest it's a physically impossibility for a large person to reduce their body mass instantly because you or anyone else doesn't like it. Notably, my father is obese. I know he certainly doesn't think he's entitled to it, and is actually highly conscious of it.
  24. I already did that one. ScarletBella got me with, 'granted, but now millions of armed forces personnel are out of work and you have to pay for their upkeep :D' (all suffering is a seperate wish, so -) I wish to end world poverty!
