  1. Brilliant! I'm really glad to heard a positive review of it. I'm going to Waterstones tomorrow, I might see if they have it. Thanks!
  2. I had no idea you had/were reading this! I'm quite oblivious. I don't know any of his other work but came across this on Amazon one time before it was actually published and have been waiting to get it because it sounded really interesting!
  3. Your reviews on both books are great - I'm usually quite slow to pick up Young Adult books like that, but they really do sound quite interesting and I know you have great taste, so I think they might have to go on the wishlist! Is there just one more book coming out, making it a trilogy, or will there be more do you know?
  4. It was a completely light hearted statement not only directed at you. No need to patronize. In this forum, it's not just a book to some people - I know that for a fact. And while you're welcome to contest that, the place to do so is not here. Okay? End of discussion.
  5. I read some short ones, some children's ones - so in those weeks I got two or three in one week. Sometimes I went without reading for a couple of weeks. But I also read a chunk of 600-800 page books, so somehow it all just averaged out to just over a book a week. I'm hoping to read more this year! But that's not going so well - near the end of January and only two books read!
  6. I had forgotten about that book again but this thread has prompted me to get it a.s.a.p!
  7. I'm accidentally reading three books at once now, oh dear. Oscar is still in the background - though he doesn't require require much attention bless him because I already know his story, I'm just fluffing it out with this story. I'm onto the third Coldfire book, but my brother is also reading it, so I'm kinda avoiding it for now as I can't pick it up whenever I want. So now I'm reading Jonathan Strange And Mr. Norrell, and I'm enjoying it immensely. I have no idea really where the story itself is going to go, I'm so caught up in the detail! I LOVE the footnotes. I adore footnotes anyway, but in books like this and in John Connolly's 'The Gates', they're fantastic. For that reason I've also added House Of Leaves to my Wishlist on page 1, as well as a book I saw reviewed on BCF Reviews, Cherry by Matt Thorne. The latter has no footnotes that I'm aware of, and doesn't seem to be a particularly inspirational book going by the review, but it's peaked my interest all the same.
  8. I want one of those book stairs!! It's AWESOME!! I'd want it in a darker wood though. And I would no doubt fall down it due to the crazy steps, but I want it anyway.
  9. Yeah, a lot of people aren't completely blown away by them, and struggle with them in parts. I did myself, but overall I love them too much not to own them anyway, and I do think they're brilliant.
  10. Okay I'm caving. I'm asking my brother to buy it for me on his credit card when I get my money tomorrow.
  11. Waaaaaaaant Also, buy the Inkheart Trilogy
  12. Yup I agree, and I'm sure it's been said before but I'm happy just to see people reading at all, that alone makes them gain a cool point or two in my book.
  13. Not accusing or finger pointing, just saying: don't start on the Bible here, guys, or I'll end up splitting threads, moving posts, and kicking ass. There's a thread in mature discussion. Please and thank you kindly.
  14. I posted at the same time as Sirinrob but he got there just before me with his word.
  15. Fads is still changing the 'L' to an 'F', rather than adding or removing a letter... I think the reason we're getting confused is because there's a really long running thread where you DO change one letter. I have to think carefully about it Anyway, going back to Beth's Lads, I say Lad.
  16. Whoops, sorry! I blame it on being sick (And that other game, the letter changing one )
  17. Star! (I'm interested to see how far this can go without circles or dead ends!)
  18. I don't think I will either once I can keep going with it - it seems fantastic. 32 hours?! I must put that short story collection on my TBR - I've never heard of it before! What worries me is not finishing it due to lack of time or picking up something else - once I stop a book I've started, I find it very hard to ever go back to it.
  19. I think he is, with Rupert Everett, I think they're the two main guys... yup just checked, Colin is Jack and Rupert is Algernon
  20. No I meant the Earnest movie, which is a few years old now. I wouldn't bother with the Dorian Gray movie, it's apparently rubbish.
  21. Nothing beats Dorian for me, but I do love Earnest too. I need to watch the Colin Firth movie
