Just throw them really hard in a south-westerly direction! And no, no nutrigrains yet. For days all I've wanted is Cheerios, juice and a nutrigrain bar.

Ned I want Malteasers now. I'm getting Malteasers tomorrow - and they'll be my first chocolate (one chocolate drink not withstanding due to liquid nature) in a week! Go me.

I read around 80 pages of Oscar Wilde: A Life In Letters and 190 pages of Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell (nearly halfway now) I'm PLANNING to read If Nobody Speaks Of Remarkable Things and finish the Wilde book by Sunday so I'll at least have 5 books read in January - not an amazing amount but better than 3.

Yeah I wasn't a child to be influenced by what I watched on tv. But even if that were the case, 'family films' to me don't have to imply a PG or U rating - 12 or even 15 is sufficient. But that is just me, I know that's not how Sky rates them, for example, which is perfectly fine. But to me, Trading Places is the kinda movie I've always sat with my family to watch.

Hee! I read another hundred pages this evening, and will probably try another couple of chapters before sleep -
Nollaig* And, no, Trading Places is a typical Chrismas family movie in my family (as in, a funny, heartwarming movie set at Christmas time) and has been since I was quite young. It's possibly not the best place for it, but, it's the best of the four in my view.

I'm taking my time for sure, reading shorter books at the same time so I haven't read any of it since the day before yesterday, and I'm just at the end of volume one, but I am completely in love with the story, the characters, the style - everything. -
I too thought I posted in such a thread, but it seems not to have been this one. This is by no means a complete list, it's just whatever springs to mind thrown into four rough categories: Indie/arty/philosophical/musical/generally quirky & awesome films: Lost In Translation, Elizabethtown, Closer, Smoke Signals, Little Miss Sunshine, Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind, Donnie Darko, Dead Poets Society, American Beauty, The Terminal, Dogma, Forrest Gump, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Sweeney Todd, The Truman Show, Ghost World, What's Eating Gilbert Grape? Disney/kids/family/christmas films: Shrek, The Lion King, The Fox & The Hound, Beauty & The Beast, Dragonheart, Groundhog Day, Trading Places, The Land Before Time, Balto, Jurassic Park, The Polar Express, Joshua, The Iron Giant. Sci-Fi/Fantasy/Horror/Thriller: The Matrix Trilogy, Cube, Primer, K-Pax, Star Trek:Generations, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, Lord Of The Rings Trilogy, The Ring, End Of Days, Stigmata, Premonition, The Game, In Bruges, Knowing, Cloverfield, Primal Fear, Derailed. Girly films: Harvey, The Shop Around The Corner, It's A Wonderful Life, Bridget Jones' Diary, You've Got Mail, Serendipity, 10 Things I Hate About You, My Best Friend's Wedding, Here On Earth, Sliding Doors, He's Just Not That Into You, Mean Girls, Love Actually. I will also watch anything with: Jude Law, Nicolas Cage, Rupert Everett, Colin Firth, Jake Gyllenhall, Heath Ledger, Jim Carey, Tom Hanks, Natalie Portman, Kirsten Dunst, Drew Barrymore, Cameron Diaz, Julia Roberts, Thora Birch, Scarlett Johannson or Meg Ryan.

Wilde.

I'd say two! But it's all part of the one event, what you're talking about and the very last scene, both of which I always personally found to be so perfect BECAUSE nothing needs to be said - I'm not sure how anyone could do that justice with words. Plus, ROBIN WILLIAMS!

It's wonderful.

Favourite live band/artist? That's a toughie. Jack L puts on the best show, but I love the Goo Goo Dolls live because they're just such an awesome band. As live performances go, Jack L would have to win. I've never experienced such silence and awe as his performances demand anywhere else. Unless Tim Minchin counts, then he wins. Wins EPICALLY. Band/artist you've seen live the most times? Goo Goo Dolls and Jack L again, both twice! Everyone else (Tim Minchin, Chris De Burgh, Bon Jovi, Velvet Revolver and Westlife) were all once. Band/artist you've not yet seen live but would love to? There are so many..... Elton John, Mika, Meat Loaf, Steve Vai... but, the absolute number one I MUST see before I die/he retires: Andrew McMahon. MUST. Band/artist you never had the chance to see? Savage Garden and Guns N Roses. Worst live band/artist? Uhhh.... I've never been to a bad gig, ever!! I don't go to festivals and only go to gigs I really want to, so I've thoroughly enjoyed them all!

First review of the year! Hector And The Search For Happiness by Francois Lelord Synopsis from back cover:
-
LOL! Yup, that's pretty much exactly how I was thinking it I see your point about approaching the lesser version first, my only concern would be discovering the plot through a more poorly executed medium and having that spoil the impact of the movie. But either way, there's positives and negatives, so do whichever you think would suit you best. I wouldn't be entirely sure, myself.
-
I had a sandwich a little while ago.
-
Well, I'd watch the movie FIRST at least, but there might not be... too much harm... in reading it?
-
Oh that's a shame
-
Oh, okay, it's strange you don't know it either, surely one of us should have! So maybe it IS based on the movie? The movie is a classic Frankie, you should definitely watch it when you've read the book! I can't wait to hear what you think of the book too. And Flowers For Algernon, whose film adaption (or one thereof, if there are multiple) I have also seen and enjoyed.

I didn't know there was a Dead Poet's Society book. I shouldn't be allowed call myself a bookworm, should I?

I'm reading a book for review called 'Hector & The Search For Happiness' by Francois Lelord. It's a short, simple, modern 'fable' originally written in French and recently translated into English. It's only 164 (small) pages long, and I'm 110 pages in. I'm not entirely sure yet HOW good it is, but it's definitely a good read. Oooh there's a book I really want, I've been waiting for the price to come down a bit on Amazon. I can't wait to hear what you think!

They're absolutely fantastic! Thanks for sharing
