  1. The Flash 1x11

    Arrow 3x11

Supernatural 9x05 - 'Dog Dean Afternoon'.  Oh that was funny   A dog is the only witness to a murder so Dean uses a spell to be able to talk to the dog . . .

    leading to . . .

    :giggle2:

I thought that episode was pretty terrible.

Watched the latest ep of Supernatural. It was okay. 3.5 week wait til the next one. Really hope something starts happening soon, they've really done nothing in the last two seasons.

  2. You not only have the Country wrong you definitely have the name wrong. Muggle is commonly known as non-magical people. My name is muggle not. :P

btw, I am one of the very few people that have read 8 different Harry Potter books. Figure that one out :D

I shorten it to muggle coz it's quicker to type :P And I have no idea how you've read 8 of them! I haven't even read 7 yet! :P

  3. Did you check your ceiling for a hole. Perhaps you were hit on the head by a meteorite and it caused the weird dreams. :giggle2:

LOL! You are obsessed with that book! pretty sure I'd notice if that happened... *checks the ceiling, just in case* Nope, nothing!

  4. That is a *huge* thing for me - I've read Angelfall by Susan Ee on Michelle's recommendation with the same condition, that the romance isn't the focus, and I LOVED that book. I'll probably give the first one of these a go when I need a break from the chunkier books I've been reading :)

  5. I'm halfway through The Universe versus Alex Woods. It's good, I am enjoying it, though it's not what I was expecting. I don't know what I WAS expecting, since I never read a synopsis for it, but I wasn't expecting something quite so conventional for the most part. (I loved the beginning, because it was so wonderfully random, but now it has settled down into something quite ordinary, just seen through unconventional eyes.) That said, the beginning seemed to be where it's all going to end up, so hopefully it's going to get a bit silly again soon.

Thinking I might start another book along side it, but not sure what yet.

  6. I LOVE those Ravenclaw clothes!! I have a Hogwarts pjyama top, which I got because I couldn't find any decent Ravenclaw stuff in my Penneys (Primark is Penneys here, don't ask.) I'm so jealous! I wonder if maybe they're in my Penneys now... I might have to have a look over the next few days, coz I would really love to have them.

  7. Woah. Lot of interesting points there, Claire. I've never really been a huge fan of the whole art thing (despite drawing a lot myself - the fact that I draw Disney/Dreamworks style cartoons says a lot about how seriously I take my art  ) - I've actually always balked at the cost of paintings. My friend is an artist, and has sold paintings which honestly I thought were fairly mediocre for a couple of hundred euro, and I never understood how they could possibly rack up that kind of money. But what you said about uniqueness, time, research etc... it does make sense, I guess. Still wouldn't ever pay for an original painting though

As for being an author, I wouldn't want it to be my full time profession. I'd love to find the time (and creativity!) to put out one book I'd written and illustrated myself, but even if it was successful (it wouldn't be) I wouldn't agree to produce more on demand. Anything creative has never really been a viable career direction for me simply because making a job of it removes the creative aspect, for me.

I think when people say their dream job is to be an author, they mean J.K. Rowling style. Get so rich and famous off one idea that they don't need to ever write another book. I'd be cool with that myself.

  8. No its fine! It's Muggle Not, not Willoyd but yes indeed Muggle's location is in fact in the States. Sorry Muggle! I blame Rowling for making me think otherwise, I associate any mention of Harry Potter with Britishness

I wonder how many other people are from the States and I don't realise!

  9. You will win another "free" recommendation from  me of another book to read.  :readingtwo:  :angel_not:

HA! Well, when you put it like that! Also you're up very late. (No need to point out that I am too - but I'm an insomniac, what's your excuse? :D )

  10. I had a really weird dream in which the world was ending (of course) but it had only just started, so there were people prepared in various ways and traffic and businesses were still running and stuff. A lot of people had been affected by a zombie virus thing (of course) though - so my brother (who doesn't actually drive) packed me into the passenger seat of his car and said he'd take us somewhere safe. He drove us off a pier into a river and as the car was sinking I was screaming at him to unlock the doors so I could make a break for it (I can't swim, would that even work?) and he calmly told me this was for the best, it was a more peaceful death than we'd get if we stuck around for the end of the world.

    It was weird.

  11. But not until you read The Universe Versus Alex Woods. :P I still challenge you to do a review of it without giving away the plot. :)

I'm 60 pages into it, started it last night! Loving it so far! I'll aim to give away no more of the plot than is in whatever synopsis I use. What do I win if I manage it? :D

  12. So many replies! :D

In that case I probably read it but forgot about the book :blush2:. I have to admit my long term memory is a lot better than my short term memory. I tend to remember things better that happened many years ago, compared with things that happened lately. I guess my tiredness in the past few years might partially be to blame. Sorry :blush2:.

    Don't be sorry!! There's no need to be sorry. I've forgotten I've read books loads of times. And I can't remember half the plots of my favourite books :lol;

I read about half of this when I had an early copy, and sort of gave up - I think it was because I disliked the characters. I may have to try it again at some point.

You are racing through your books! :D

Common complaint, and normally that would put me off too, but I dunno, liking Rachel was enough. And yes, I am! My mojo seems to be sticking around this time, which is awesome. I'm making a real effort to pick up a book every day even if it's only for 15 minutes. And I'm getting lucky with my picks, too, I think.

Great review. It sound like something that I would be interested in so I'll have to keep an eye out for a copy of it going cheap in one of my usual charity book shop hunts.

Hope you enjoy it if you find it!

I keep seeing this on Amazon. It's number one on their Kindle best seller lists, but I've never actually bothered to look at the synopsis (it was £6.02, which is too expensive for me, so I just kind of disregarded it :blush2: ). I shall add it to my wishlist though, as it sounds like a decent read. I like a good thriller. :boogie:

It is a brand new book as far as I know, and it's very very popular so the price didn't surprise me. Hope you enjoy it if you end up reading it!

It sounds like a book Hitchcock would adapt to cinema.

Hitchcock would have a field day with the ending, believe me.

I have the book on hold at the library. I am #445 :) although the library has 12 copies of it.

Good review Nollaig. I will just be patient waiting for the book to be available to me. :)

Thanks! Hope you enjoy it, when you eventually get it several years from now  That's a long list of people!!

  13. The Girl On The Train - Paula Hawkins

Synopsis: Rachel takes the same commuter train every morning. Every day she rattles down the track, flashes past a stretch of cozy suburban homes, and stops at the signal that allows her to daily watch the same couple breakfasting on their deck. She’s even started to feel like she knows them. “Jess and Jason,” she calls them. Their life—as she sees it—is perfect. Not unlike the life she recently lost. And then she sees something shocking. It’s only a minute until the train moves on, but it’s enough. Now everything’s changed. Unable to keep it to herself, Rachel offers what she knows to the police, and becomes inextricably entwined in what happens next, as well as in the lives of everyone involved.

Review: Thrillers aren't my usual fare, so they have to be pretty gripping to reel me in. The last time I recall tearing through a thriller as quickly as this one was when I read "Derailed" by James Siegel. Coincidentally both involve trains! As soon as I read the premise for "The Girl On The Train" I had to read it. I myself am a people-watcher, though maybe not quite so invested in the lives of specific strangers as Rachel is in the lives of 'Jess' and 'Jason'.

There was nothing I didn't enjoy about this book. None of the characters were particularly likeable, but all were compelling enough to read about, which is not an easy thing to achieve. Although, I didn't dislike Rachel. I found myself relating uncomfortably to her endless good intentions for a fresh start tomorrow, knowing tomorrow is always a day away. I can see why people might pity or despise her, much in the way they do in the novel, but honestly I just felt empathetic. I wanted something to go right for her, and completely understood her compulsion to unravel the mystery she finds herself tangled up in.

The narrative jumps around, temporally and from one viewpoint to another, and often such books lose me entirely so that I give up any semblance of understanding what's occuring. This book, however, covered quite a short span of time in two separate years, and each viewpoint was distinct enough to create distinct jigsaw pieces which slotted together perfectly. I had five ideas about whodunnit, all of which were wrong, and on three separate occasions I thought 'this reads like an ending, what more can happen?!' An easy read, a complex but not over-complicated, and certainly not unbelieveable, plot, and while it probably doesn't *quite* deserve five stars (not entirely sure about that scene at the end), it definitely left me satisfied enough to award them.
