I guess for most it comes down to the prospective of choice and having that control over your life. Or at least, believing you do, even if you don't. If your life is pre-determined then that concept could be perceived as totally depressing. That lack of choice and inevitable fate. I guess that's why I'm not keen on the concept of determinism.
*Understand why Roxi is a philosophy student*
This conversation reminds me of The Time Traveler's Wife.

I guess that's what interests me about morality though. The fact that it is created by us as humans. I'm interested in the differences between people and how these morals are developed and applied to their actions. It fascinates me how there can be that underlying understanding in someone of what it means to be 'morally correct' and yet their actions may not reflect that. Or even when they have no concept of morals at all.
The free will idea is definitely interesting too. And yes, loads of studies suggest that free will has little to do with how we turn out. I'm not sure if I'm too fond of that whole deterministic idea!

Your essay sounds really interesting! Mine's on short term memory and forgetting. Fairly interesting area until it comes to writing about it. I'm not keen on Cognitive Psychology.
I was quite surprised that this week was the first time dualism had actually being mentioned. I'm like halfway through my second year. I figured it would have been discussed a lot earlier.
My friend is doing Philosophy (and History) at Uni and she likes the whole ethical and moral dilemma side of things. I'm assuming she would enjoy writing your current essay! I think she's hoping to do her dissertation on that area.

I haven't had dinner tonight. Or at least, not food that could be classed as dinner. I need to sort my diet out! Enjoy yours!
What's your essay on again? I remember reading it somewhere but I've forgotten, sorry! We touched on a little bit of Philosophy the other day, all about dualism and such. I actually understood (most of) it, I was quite proud of myself.

Awwh, no! So double the crappiness then. You could try having a nice warm bath? That always makes me feel better when I'm ill/in pain. :soaking1:Hope you feel better soon!
I'm ok thanks. Am just spending the evening on here, doing a bit of reading and generally avoiding any Uni work. I'm going to be spending the whole weekend working on an essay so I figured I could have tonight off.

Haha, I can imagine. Luckily, I read them over a six year period else I would've suffered from a lack of sleep too. Although, that did mean that I had to wait years for the next one to be released!
I know, she really is a great author. I just wish that she would writte more novels suitable for adults. All her other ones are for children and young teenagers.
As for another after Double Cross, I read an interview with her in it and she said that she would never say never about doing one. But I don't think it's a definite. I do think she's left it so that another could one could be written but we can only hope!

Hey, sorry for the late reply. I've had such a crazy weekend! It was my flatmate's 21st so we went out Friday and had a house party last night, I feel so ill! I'm not used to it, I'm such a **** student.
About Wuthering Heights, Phoebe was reading it for a literature class and she was talking about symbolism. I'd love to try reading that at some point, I'm just not sure if the writing style will appeal. I'm ashamed to admit, I've never actually read a classic!
I haven't even started The Book Thief yet and I doubt I'll make much progress with it as I've got an assignment in for Wednesday. You have work in for next week too, don't you? Or an exam? I remember you mentioning something like that! Good luck with both.

Haha, I bet that'll be filled up so quickly. Especially with your birthday coming up! I don't even have a bookcase here, they're all piled on the floor!
-
Ooh, I know. If I keep buying books the way I am, I'm going to need a bookcase that big just to fit them in.

Thanks! Yours is perfect of course . I would love to have a room like that in my house.

Hello . Welcome to the forum! I read that you were struggling with The Host and I thought I'd pop in to say that you should definitely carry on with it. I had exactly the same problem; it took me so long to get into it. But it's well worth it. I gave it 8/10 in the end!

I'm pretty good thanks! Hows the reading going? I'm about halfway through The Reader and am really enjoying it at the moment. I read that you liked it too?
Bookmark still hasn't arrived, can you believe that?! It's been over 2 weeks now. He said they were waiting for new ones to come in and that they'd give me two for the trouble. As long as it's not two of the same, I'll be happy! Hehe, I hope your friend likes it. Actually, that's given me an idea, I might send the second one to my Twilight obsessed friend (the one kissing Edward in my photos!)
