  1. One aspect for me on the acceptance of their fate is that, yes they are brought up in isolation,

but they don't remain so. They leave Hailsham, admittedly to enter a halfway house of a sorts, but they are able to travel around and interact with normal people. Why not question their fate then?

A thought that also struck me was whether any of the children, entering their diffcult teenage have that rebelliousness (sp) notorious in teens? Yes, Tommy has his moments, but they are hissy fits rather than "Let's get outta here".

More questions are raised in this book than are answered. Are the children sterile? If not would they be allowed to procreate? Why is Kathy kept so long as a carer? Is she that good at the job, or has there been no requirement for her 'parts' in that time?

Who actually governs them? Are they citizens and therefore answerable to the nation's laws? If not, what are they considered to be, on the occasions they are considered at all?

  2. well I tried to make home made burgers I used a pound of mince two eggs and some tomato sauce but they still all fell to pieces.

I hate it when that happens with a dish that needs 'molding'

Try throwing in some breadcrumbs next time Colin.

I bung in onion, mince, breadcrumbs (couple of slices crumbed using the hand blender), a dash of oil, eggs ....and my not so secret ingredient - a sprinkling of grated cheese!

Well, tonight it's gotta be pancakes. I'll be doing bacon in a cheesy sauce, and the traditional with lemon and sugar/splenda. It's the only time my OH stays with me in the kitchen while I cook! :D

  3. I think it is worth a read. The stories are magical world versions of 'muggle' fairy tales, and are readable and sweet. In this way JKR has hit the right note.

The footnotes by Dumbledore are ok, but I think I placed too much on them, and so was a little disappointed. Although there is nothing hugely revealing in the footnotes, they are fairly interesting and worth a read.

I'd say read on, but don't expect any revelations!

  4. I liked his assistant, (was it Rob?) he came across as quite a helpful friend. I liked that he wasn't all "Do you need a blanket?" with Mr P, but was more of a cynical companion.

He was able to say what changes he had noticed since the diagnosis, which must be invaluable to the health professionals.
