  1. I'm happy to go to sea! I was thinking that I would include some poems in my reading, alongside a novel or two.
  2. Berry nice! Now, the question is.....did you count them as you lay them out? I think I would have been tempted to start counting them, but would have then probably given up about a quarter of the way through, and have carried out a berry guestimate! p.s. I LOVE the moose! As Scottish might say..."There's a Moose in ya hoose!"
  3. optical fraud, and threatened to arrest everyone in the vicinity. Things were only calmed when....
  4. every one of those jars holding those bizarrely rainbow painted snails'. He leaned in, glaring at the jars. Unfortunately, n his haste to intimidate he managed to.....
  5. who should turn up in a flurry of flashing blue lights and a cacophony of dee-dahs, but Sergeant Bonkers, accompanied by the rather sinister looking
  6. I saw that a few years ago, and loved it!
  7. Oh muggle not, a perfect pie! That looks so yummy! I hope it tasted as good as it looked!
  8. Oh my, muggle not! That photo has made my mouth water. There is a 3-D effect on the pic that makes them look pinchable. I insist on seeing photographic proof of the pie when it is made, just to stoke my envy. 😄
  9. I completed my reading of The Unlikely Escape of Uriah Heep by H.G. Parry. An enjoyable read that I probably would not have encountered had I not joined the BCF Reading Challenge 2. A charming story that walks a path with well known literary characters, and beyond it's central premise, does make one think about interpreting texts and delving into the intentions of authors, and our roles as readers. Great stuff!
  10. I completed The Unlikely Escape of Uriah Heep by HG Parry today. I really enjoyed it. (From Amazon) A joyous, inventive and engaging debut featuring a young academic with the power to bring literary characters out of their books and into the real world - the ultimate book-lover's fantasy. That pretty much sums up my feelings about the story. From the opening chapters I was drawn in, and I found the main characters likeable and rounded enough to make them and their relationships interesting. I also found my reading was actively immersive, so the scenes played out visually as I read them. That doesn't always happen as I read, but I enjoyed the experience here where it felt appropriate to bring my own interpretation of scenes to the fore of my mind.
  11. I finished The Unlikely Escape of Uriah Heap by HG Parry today. I made myself not finish it last night, and was glad I did, as I would have been too tired to appreciate the ending. Feeling a bit flat now, so will have a rummage in my kindle and find something suitable to keep me ticking over until I read Tom-All-Alone (my hardback version title), A.K.A. as The Man in Black or The Solitary House.
  12. Hello, @itsmeagain, good to 'see' you. I've not read ANY Elizabeth George, although I had heard of Inspector Lynley. I will have to catch up.....*gulp* 21 books and counting!
  13. I have been reading, and really enjoying HG Parry's The Unlikely Escape of Uriah Heap. It is an engaging read, with likeable main characters. I suspect there are twists and turns ahead for me, so my internal analysis of the text remains on high alert for clues and indications!
  14. You Make Me Feel (Like A Natural Woman) - Carole King
  15. I have enjoyed what I have so far read, and keep itching to get back to it, which is a good sign.
  16. I enjoyed a quick read of Tom Felton's 'Beyond The Wand', a self deprecating memoir from his early years, entering acting, and a through a period of being somewhat lost. He comes across as a charismatic young man, and his writing is filled with humour and a gentle wisdom. I have since started 'The Unlikely Escape of Uriah Heep' by HG Parry. This is one of two books I an in reading for the BCF Reading Challenge.
  17. We have finally got around to watching a short series we 'recorded' a very long time ago. It was 'Britain's Great Cathedrals' presented by Tony Robinson of Blackadder, and Time Team fame. A really engaging series.
  18. Despite the warm weather, we also had baked potatoes last night. With baked beans and cheese. Filling and delish. Tonight it's meatballs and a vegetable rice side.
  19. I think you summed it up nicely there, muggle.
  20. I hope being back at work hasn't been too much of a strain for you, @Hux. Despite it being slow progress, at least it is progress, however frustrating it must be for you.
  21. @muggle not I groaned at both! The second one made my husband mutter, so was definitely worth showing him.
  22. That is wonderful news @muggle not! May I add that your latest strawberry photos made me utter loudly "Yowzer" On the matter of Heinz Tomato Soup, it is my husband's favourite so I will have to surreptitiously try out the new vegan one, just in case the Cream Of one is phased out. This will give me a chance to break the news to him gently.
