My elderly neighbour called me around 5 pm, urgently requesting that I pop round - she wanted me to see the little rabbit that has decided to make her garden their new home. This gorgeous little rabbit kept us captivated for a good 20 minutes. It truly is the simple things that can lift your day to greater heights.

Great music, and Roger Dean artwork. How the world once made sense. Now most days I pop along to the NASA site to check out their picture of the day (follow this link to catch them!), and today's was a video looking at us earthlings, and our universal need to dance. So I have just watched it, and this is the fab and joyful video. It's worth watching through to the end. Anyone fancy a dance?

I have read 'The Hobbit' and the 'Lord Of The Rings' trilogy and enjoyed both. 'The Hobbit' is a great rollicking romp in Middle Earth and a great introduction to the world, although it stands very well on it's own. I will happily read this again one day. My husband's first Christmas present to me was a beautiful hardback edition of 'The Hobbit', complete with a cd recording of Tolkein reading a few chapters, maps and postcards. The trilogy was dense and at times tedious with detail, but worth ploughing through in my very humble opinion. I thought Peter Jackson did an amazing job of bringing the three to the screen and visually I don't think they can be faulted. I saw the films after reading the books many years before, so it would be difficult to know whether prior knowledge was an advantage or not.

The 'To Be Read' pile - a good or a bad thing?
Chrissy replied to Michelle's topic in General Book Discussions
Although I have felt pressured by my To Be Read shelves, since my reading mojo has been playing up so much in the past couple of years, I have adjusted my thinking on the matter and now view them as positive things awaiting my attention. I occasionally go through the books and keep those I still wish to read, and pass on to friends, family or the charity shop those I no longer have an interest in. I love full book shelves and persusing all the books I have yet to read, and it would take a mini miracle to stop me buying either tree or kinde books on a reguar basis. There are worse things I could give my time and money to. -
Hello Lady M, good to 'see' you. I spent Thursday carrying out some hefty jungling/gardening, and yesterday I was throwing branches and twigs through a little chipper machine, so this weekednd as the weather is pretty wet we are doing the final segment to our ongoing Big Book Swaparound (no, it's not just big books!). So by Sunday pm I hope to have my gorgeous new IKEA shelves properly sorted, and the bookshelves downstairs similarly filled and sorted. I am looking forward to this, and as hubby and I have such a giggle when we do this kind of thing I think the weekend looks good.

Sorry Ruth, but I can't quite make out your second line there, something about 2 further books? Must be a forum glitch! I am still wending my way through the totally non taxing books related to the Torchwood tv series. Wotcanudoaboutit?

That is wonderful Kylie, you have made the right choice in devoting your talents to the job you love. ........... and if you ever need a bit of long distance human contact there are plenty of us who have skype!

I watched 'The World's Fastest Indian', a New Zealand film about an older man's attempts to race his 1920 Indian motorcycle at the famous Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah USA. This sounds like a whole lot of nothing, but the central character of Burt Munro alongside the people and places he encounters en route make the film wonderful. This is a terrific film, with Anthony Hopkins acting his socks off with great support from his fellow cast members. It is a 100% character driven film, and I defy anyone to not be uplifted by it. It was recommended to me by an acquaintance, and all I can do is recommend it on.

I have 'The Psychic', 'I'm Starved For You' and 'The Glass Guardian' waiting on my kindle for me, so it's great to know that you rated them so highly!

This is waiting patiently on my book shelf, waiting for the day when I stop reading my current nonsense, and actually start reading for real again. Very glad to hear it is such a good read.

Looking for "Horsey" novels
Chrissy replied to Booknutt's topic in Book Search and Reading Recommendations
Us too! The realistic movement of the horse was fabulous, and we definitely teared up when it gave it's horsey salute. Wonderful. And why didn't I think of War Horse? I am yet to read it, but it is on my shelf waiting for me. -
I am listening to disc 11 of 22 on my audio version of Salman Rushdie's 'Midnight's Children'. It is read by Lyndam Gregory and he is fabulous. It's unabridged, and having read and enjoyed the book many years ago, this is heavenly to have read to me.

I'm doing some gardening, so am continuing with the audio version of 'Midnight's Children'. I am on disc 11 of 22. It is a wonderful telling of the story, just wonderful. Makes the task of heavy gardening so much easier.

Looking for "Horsey" novels
Chrissy replied to Booknutt's topic in Book Search and Reading Recommendations
Hello Booknutt, good to 'see' you. I hope all is well with you and yours. I couldn't think of any adult horsey books, and thought "What the heck, I'll google it!" The following came up...it's an Amazon.com list of 'Horse Fiction For Adults'. I hope this helps. -
That would be interesting to look at, especially as a book can become a best seller without being a best book in the eyes of many. Dan Brown's 'The Da Vinci Code' really seemed to split opinion as I recall, but sold in the millions.
-
This book / these books seem to spit opinion down the middle! I think the discussion about them is likely to continue for some time to come.

At the moment I am struggling with my reading mojo, and have found the only things I seem to be able to read are a series of books related to the tv series Torchwood, a series I enjoyed. I can't even contemplate reading anything new, long or challenging so these stories, with chaaracters I know and scenarios I'm familiar with are ideal. This will work so long as I don't start fretting at what I'm NOT reading! I have a lot of stuff on my plate at the moment, so these fit into my crime fiction theory - alien crime in Wales! I tend to drop back to children's / YA books quite often anyway, but they are my mainstay when I am physically under par, the stinking cold scenario.
