  2. Telephone Answer Machine Messages

Hello, you've reached Jim and Sonya. We can't pick up the phone right now, because we're doing something we really enjoy. Sonya likes doing it up and down and I like doing it left to right ... real slowly. So leave a message, and when we're done brushing our teeth we'll get back to you.

Hi. I'm probably home, I'm just avoiding someone I don't like. Leave me a message and if I don't call back, it's you.

I can't come to the phone now because I have amnesia and I feel stupid talking to people I don't remember. I'd appreciate it if you could help me out by leaving my name and telling me something about myself. Thanks

If you are a burglar, then we're probably at home cleaning our weapons right now and can't come to the phone. Otherwise, we probably aren't home and it's safe to leave us a message

I can't come to the phone now because alien beings are eating my brain. Leave a message anyway, and after the alien beings assume my shape, one of them will get back to you

  3. Is That It? by Bob Geldof was interesting, surprising, and sentimental, he was besotted by Paula Yates when he wrote it (pre Michael Hutchence). Any follow up should be interesting giving it's 20+ years since Live Aid.

The Ragman's Son by Kirk Douglas, I loved this book, it is full of things I didn't know about him. I love the part about how his father stopped smoking. He has a lovely writing style and I would like to read some of his fiction too.

Don't Laugh At Me by Norman Wisdom is worth reading. his childhood is pretty dismal but despite that he became a big star.

Also read I Am Jackie Chan , I am a fan and wan't dissapointed. If you're not a martial arts fan but have an interest in Chinese culture or an interest in movie making you should still find it interesting.

  4. 1. I have diplomas in massage therapy and nutritional therapy (no sense of smell is sometimes diet related, hope that helps.)

    2. I have a black belt in Kung Fu and am a pacifist who cries at sad movies.

    3. I was a single Dad for 5 years when the kids were babies.

    4. I proposed, and got engaged, on Chritmas day in front of all my family.

    5. My great great great uncle invented the bicycle, and my great great grandmother was the first girl on a bicycle.

  5. I am told when learning another language, it is helpfull to immerse yourself in the culture a much as you can. With that in mind I thought I would start this thread to gather any information on books of a Spanish flavour.

I will begin with The New Spaniards by John Hooper, which I bought from Amazon after reading some excellent reviews. I found the first 2 or 3 chapters heavy going so put it to one side but am still determined to read it through.

These 2 books are also high up on my TBR list:

One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez

Love in the Time of Cholera by Gabriel Garcia Marquez

  6. One made at a nearby farm using some kind of rum, tasted like malibu and pineapple. Also turkish delight.

    Also like:

chocolate n orange from Cream o Galloway, also the one with caramel bits in.

The ice cream shop in Lanark is great. The one I'd like to try is Luca's in Musselborough, apparantly it's the best.

However nothing has ever come close to proper Italian. I went with my school when I was 15.

  7. I'm very glad to be here and look forward to contributing to the forum. Thanks to Inver for recommending me.

My love of books came from my childhood when my mother used to take us to the Library and let us choose our own books, and when my father bought us a set of encyclopedias.

As a teenager I saw literature as something forced upon us by the English teacher, :D. Later I discovered book shops and caught the bug. My interests are varied, from Biographies to learning Spanish. I admit to not reading much fiction but hope to change that with the help of places like this forum.
