I agree on the whole it is better for people to do some research, rather than trying to convince one another either way.
On the subject of proof though, remember the tobacco industry. Both sides knew smoking caused cancer but it took something like 20 years and 20,000 studies to prove it.
Never mind, if this recession continues, we'll all be growing our own veggies and keeping chickens.

I guess I'm a non-fiction reader mainly but I am finding time for more fiction lately. I like my stories to be believeable, perhaps even true, with adventure, suspence, and yes romance (not just exclusive to chicks you know).

If your driving south or north of Carlisle then tune in to CFM, lots of music, not too much chat. Also love the local station in Newcastle.

The Soccer Goalkeeping Handbook by Alex Welsh,
Kung Fu , History Philosophy and Technique By David Chow,
and many more that would bore many people to tears unless they were interested in a particular sport.

I'm willing to bet that, like me, there are others who don't mention every book they read, for the very reasons brought up in this thread.
I don't read as fast as some, or as many as some, but a reader I am.

Yes it is an interesting book, but it is customary to introduce yourself first, and you should definately familiarize yourself with the forum rules before posting.

watched a couple of episodes. It was so funny when they were changing the language of the satnav voice and both in fits of laughter.

Dawn French would be a good laugh.

No major illnesses to speak of. Lke most people I've had my share of heartaches and reading a 'good' self help kinda book has been known to help. Hey if it's good enough for Oprah lol.

Ernie - The film rights to TTTW were bought by Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston and it's due out this year, I believe.
Cheers Janet, I just did some research, and you are right, the movie has been made: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0452694/

I thoroughly enjoyed this. Hadn't been expecting to, but started on a Saturday morning, and couldn't put it down, finishing it the same evening. It seems to divide opinion among my friends, with some loving it, and other thinking it was "a bit meh". I thought it was very original, well written and utterly compelling.
I'm well impressed, I couldn't read it in one day. I've just had 2 weeks holiday and I'm still only a third way through The Time Travelers Wife. I'm enjoying it and think it would make a good movie. I will leave any judgement until I have reached the end. At my current rate that'll take the whole of February.

I agree, it is just a general guide and if someone is making an attempt to improve their health, they should be applauded.
However I do know where Crotalus is coming from. Myself, I get annoyed at RDAs for vitamins. For instance the RDA for vitamin C will stop you getting scurvy but is nothing to do with 'health', or how much your body actualy needs.
I would definately recommend a juicing machine. It is a great way to get your five+ a day. Many bought juices (and other foods) are often heated to high temperatures which destroys any vitamins. If the label tells you the quantities of vitamins it is because they have been added.

I think teenagers still read books. My three are 14, 16 and 17, I always encouraged them, but at the moment they have also discovered girls /boys. My 16 year old reads the most.
