  1. Hi Judy! Havent seen you around for a while, I hope everything is ok?

  2. oops, accidently posted my last response on my own wall this morning... Tried to do it too quickly as I was leaving for work *laughs* Here it is:

Oh yes, I'm sure that was advisable *laughs*

Well she's Hindu so no but eventhough we have a Christian background my brother doesnt believe in it. So there will only be one faith involved. They havent decided the details yet but it will probably be a civil service in France and an Hindu marriage in India.

You definitely should go to Kerala!

Ok I really have to get a move on and leave for work now. Have a nice day.

  3. ok I guess you must be in bed by now so good night!

  4. mmm I dont know about the difference between Bombay and Delhi but I've heard that said many times about south and north India. My dad has been in Bombay for some articles and will certainly return on some occasions but theere base really will be Delhi.

I dont know where you will be heading next but even if it's not as different I'm sure you'll still be learning loads... Plus you get to compare and contrast the different experiences! Dont forget to get prepared for the return home... Probably wont be so easy after such a year!

Your husband grew up in the US right? Had he lived in India at any point before this? If not it must be interesting to see how he lives the experience!

  5. Well she's not now but he met her there during an internship, returned for a second internship and now she's been in France for a few months. They're planning on living here at first but might move to India later. Yes, the wedding should be something! I've been to Indian weddings when I was there... but actually being part of it... I just cant imagine what it will be like ;-)

Yes all different, and so difficult to understand! I mean in other countries I've been to there was always some kind of common reference, if only the christian background which does explain much of the culture even if you're not christian yourself... But India? It's just a huge puzzle!

The south is great. According to my parents it's easier than the north... I went around Madurai, Chennai, Bangalore and Cochin.

Ok, I need to to go have dinner but I'll be back!

  6. How are you adjusting to life there? Are you and your husband thinking of settling there at some point? I loved it and love travelling and living in other countries but I was quite happy to return to France after 3 months. India is just so totally different in every way I found it hard to settle down...

  7. So... spending 24 hours with an Indian family... I spent around 3 months in the south of India two years ago. Part of it was with my student's solidarity organisation and we spent a months learning about life in the villages and the issues people really face (as opposed to the distant image you can have from France through films and books): spent some time meeting local NGO's, interviewing villagers... The 24h immersion with a family was part of that. Awesome experience!

Actually I meant to leave you a message before as my family is getting more and more immersed in India and I thought it would be interesting to share our experiences! My dad moved to Delhi to work as a journalist a few months ago and my mom will be joining him soon. And my brother is now engaged to an Indian so the links should be long lasting! *laughs*

  8. I'm so sorry to hear that Ben! I hope she will pull through. It sounds like she's really special for you. Take care of yourself as well :friends0:

  9. Chimera

Do what you must... just dont play up our reputation too much will you? *laughs*

Just think of it as great ideas to explore later... Once your current thesis is done. That is, if you still want to hear about thesis like work by that time.

Ok, I'm off to read Never Let me Go before bed. Are you planning on taking part in that circle? You should, I'm sure you'd enjoy the discussion it should stir up.

  10. Chimera

Oh please do! I feel so acomplished all of a sudden *cracks up*

I'm sure a bit of bribery could get you out of it!

Oh yes, sidetracks can be evil... Plus they feel so fulfilling at the time because you're enjoying what you are reading and you are reading economic's material, not random posts on BCF so I'm sure you do feel like you are working *laughs* Good luck!

  11. Hi Ben,

Just saw your message on the "What's up thread". I hope your aunt will be ok and you are holding up. It must be very hard!

How have you been doing other than that?

  12. Chimera

*gasps for air as she breaks the surface* Phew, just got to the end of mount posts TBR! *laughs* And it was just todays posts as I've been liberally using the "mark all threads as read" button these last few days *laughs* I do systematically mark the quiz part as read but it doesnt seem to help much when it gets the number down from 500 to 420.

mmm skying (plus the numerous travel plans you mentioned in a thread) sounds like a nice enticement to get your draft done! How far along are you?

    *kisses*

  13. Chimera

Hi, thanks for the message! It means a lot.

Everything is fine, I've just been doing insanely long days at work (what with the commuting a good 12 hours every day) and for once had a very active WE, which was good! Pus I have to say I've been quite overwhelmed by the amount of unread posts evry night... gosh you all can talk! *laughs* I'll try to get back into it tonight. *takes a deep breath before plunging in her unread posts*

What about you? Everything ok on your end? Some travelling coming soon?

    *kisses*

  14. Hi there, thanks for the add! How was your day? better than yesterday I hope!

  15. Chimera

That doesnt sound very serious coming from miss CC! *laughs* Good idea though to discuss just the first chapter to get people going...

I dont know if it's the style or me having lost touch with classics but I do find many parts difficults to follow. And although I enjoy it when I get going I never particularly want to pick it up again.

    Had a nice We?

  16. Chimera

Ah, well... trouble is quite a relative notion I guess *coughs in a very umbridge kind of way*

Oh, poor you! I had one as well just before christmas, I hope you are back on track now!

*wonders what to hit ii with* school was just great of course, amazing time, much better than snuggling up in front of a film! Dont even like Clooney anyway! *laughs* To be fair my week ended on thursday at lunch time... so the torture was short lived ;-)

Ok I'm off to snuggle up with my book... Far from the Madding crowd which I am struggling with. But I'll stick through it as it has been sitting on my shelves for the past 9 years!

  17. Hi! Also wanted to comment on that thread... Please dont think you dont 'fit' in here because of that: disagreements are bound to happen on a forum and as Roxi said we tend to avoid conflicts on here.

As I said in the thread I disagree with your view (even though I'm really not a fan of organised religion myself) but it would make for an interesting debate - this type of forum probably just isn't the place for it as it can turn nasty quickly, especially when there are people who feel very strongly about it.

I hope to see you around on the board!

  18. Chimera

And us! It's been quiet without you *laughs*

Good luck with the decorating! Or should I say the turning his flat upside down ? *wonders wether he knows what he's getting into*

Christmas was great. a good mix of nice family time (as in just my parents, brother, brother's GF and me), larger family reunion and catching up with friends... And loads of good food and reading of course! Too bad school starts again tomorrow *laughs*

And the big news of the day is brother's GF will actually be my sister in law! *does a happy dance*

So, when do we get you back on board "full time" ?

  19. Chimera

Happy new year! It's good to see you back on board... Have you returned home yet? I hope you had an amazing christmas time!

  20. *laughs* Buying books is always a good thing! Though it can be dangerous...

I'm trying to restrict myself at the moment. Though I ordered "Book Traveller World" online yesterday, which basically is a guide for books on travelling/ from foreign authors... So I'll probably be doomed as soon as I get it

  21. Hi there! Thanks for the friendship request! How are your challenges going today? ;-)

  22. Chimera

What? A whole week with you ??! Yes, I can see how he'd get tired of it *cracks up*

Well that has to be a good omen then... I guess you're just procrastinating the best part cause you dont want it to end *grimaces in memory of economic theory essays*

My We was ok... well, in fact it was pretty boring *laughs* But at least it was resting (a bit).

  23. Chimera

"My life is so glamorous!" Says she who just came back from a 'catching a plane as I go' trip... *cracks up*

I hope the thesis is going ok! It sounds like you are in the last writing stages? Good luck with that! I'm sure it seems hard and long right now but you'll feel relieved when it's done -probably... You might end up missing it as much as you seem to love it! *leughs*

Ok, I'm exhausted and not sure what I'm writing, or reading, so I think I'll just go to bed, eventhough its ridiculously early

  24. Chimera

Ohh that must have been quite an experience! What did your father do there?

Nice plan! I hope your little finger survived this time *cracks up*

I'm fine, just tired at the moment... hoping for some holydays soon! My mum is fine now... actually she seemed fine 5 mn after the incident, hardly realised something had happened... And thankfully the doctor also thought it was nothing serious so all's well!

So, what about the first classic circle poll? Satisfied with the result?

  25. Chimera

Ah well, parents always have weird ideas... and no clue as to what their 'disuasion' tentatives might bring out! *cracks up*

That's very true, and quite sad as well when you think about it... Does SA stand for South Africa? Did you live there ??

Hope your we ended well. Until when will you be in the states? Enjoy the vacations and BF!
