  1. If you want to try space opera without the Star Trek, take a look at some of Iain M. Bank's Culture novels.
  2. I'm still on catch-up with that, hoping a colleague will lend me series two before series three makes it to Channel 4!
  3. I liked Man of Steel first time through, and with subsequent re-watchings I've enjoyed it more (although Russell Crow is pretty wooden at times). The amount of destruction at the end now makes sense, now that we know more about the plot for Batman vs. Superman.
  4. Ant-Man is out on Blu-ray at the end of November, and Marvel have just given the nod for a sequel (much to the annoyance of the Captain Marvel fans, which has been bumped back a year because this is taking its slot).
  5. I'm not entirely sure what you are trying to say with that picture, KO! I think the new film is going to be pretty dark, the trailer kind of has that feel too it. They aren't giving much/anything away in terms of the plot, so although the trailer looks pretty, the film could still be pants (the trailers for The Phantom Menace looked jolly good at the time, and we all know how that turned out . . .). Either way, I've got tickets to the first showing I could get into to minimise the spoilers from the internet folk!
  6. I didn't stay up especially, or get up for it; I feel asleep in the armchair watching a film and work up just before 3. Seemed like fate, or The Force, or something, so I stuck around to watch it. Bit tired now . . . ETA: Got the morning of the 17th off as well, which is good seeing how I have a ticket and all . . .
  7. Sitting around waiting 'til one . . .
  8. Fargo Well, that was different to what I was expecting. Good to see Michael Hogan again, and I didn't recognise Ted Danson in the trailers. Cheers was obviously a looooooooooooooooooooooooooooong time ago.
  9. I've just booked a 9.30am ticket for the 17th as well. So that will be a morning off work then . . .
  10. ^ Nice, but the obvious question is: "Where is Luke?"
  11. Defiance cancelled. I'm surprised at that, I thought it was proving quite popular at the moment.
  12. These are pretty cool:
  13. Amazon sues more than 1,000 people for providing fake reviews. Well, I guess that is a start.
  14. I've just seen a Halloween advert from Aquafresh. Toothpaste companies are now making dedicated Halloween adverts. This is the world we live in now . . .
  15. Have you ever been to Wales? If you have not, that could be a major disappointment you have looming.
  16. ^ What I was coming here to say!
  17. The Dish A great film about the Parkes Observatory in Australia and the Apollo 11 moon landings, staring Sam Neil. If you've not seen this, seek out a copy - it is very good!
  18. Halloween never used to be a big thing in the UK, but in the last ten years or so it has really taken off. When I was a kid you used to get odd groups doing Trick or Treat, but now it is being heavily merchandised with everything from costumes and decorations through to sweets, party packs, cards and even music (wtf?!). I think it is more a case of companies seeing a chance to make money than any specific desire from people in the UK wanting to celebrate it. It feels like it is fast becoming a chance to fill the empty marketing void between Mothers/Fathers day and Christmas.
  19. This year I shall be stalking the streets of my home town as dressed as the most terrifying thing I can possibly imagine. (Me).
  20. Just a quick drive-by post, but does anyone know of any Sci-fi or Fantasy books that claim to be "Based on a True Story" (when they obviously couldn't be).
  21. At this point, I'm more interested in Batty vs. Supes, but I wouldn't be surprised if Suicide Squad turns out to be the better film.
  22. I'd say start a new thread. DC have only just started their on-going franchise, but it is one that is set to last a few years. Also, the Hulk doesn't like Batman.
  23. Same in Exeter as well, although both the original Waterstone's and the Dillon's that became Waterstone's are still open in this case. Of all of the book chains Waterstone's has absorbed, I miss Ottakers the most, there was a really good one in Tiverton that Waterstone's took over and then closed a few years back. The town really needs a good book shop, Smith's doesn't really cover that base anymore.
