Derek Landy > Das Groteskerium kehrt zurück (Playing with fire) synopsis from waterstones Just when you think you've saved the world! "You will kill her?" the Torment asked. Skulduggery sagged. "Yes." He hesitated, then took his gun from his jacket. "I'm sorry, Valkyrie," he said softly. "Don't talk to me," Valkyrie said. "Just do what you have to do." Valkyrie parted her tunic, and Skulduggery pointed the gun at the vest beneath. "Please forgive me," Skulduggery said, then aimed the gun at the girl and pulled the trigger. With Serpine dead, the world is safe once more. At least, that's what Valkyrie and Skulduggery think, until the notorious Baron Vengeous makes a bloody escape from prison, and dead bodies and vampires start showing up all over Ireland. With Baron Vengeous after the deadly armour of Lord Vile, and pretty much everyone out to kill Valkyrie, the daring detective duo face their biggest challenge yet. But what if the greatest threat to Valkyrie is just a little closer to home!? my thoughts This was another good read, it seemed a little bit more violent though than the first book, which made me wonder about it being a childrens book. Nontheless, I find it (the series in general) to be a great story and it's something different to all the nice vampire stories and such. Rating: 3/5 Series: Skulduggery Pleasant 2

Derek Landy > Skulduggery Pleasant (Skulduggery Pleasant) synopsis from amazaon Twelve-year-old Stephanie Edgley inherits her uncle Gordon's estate and is promptly attacked on her first solo visit to the property. A mysterious skeleton-detective, Skulduggery Pleasant, comes to her rescue, explaining that he thinks Gordon was murdered and that she may be next. The two join forces and set off to solve the crime in a series of magical adventures that take them into a world filled with ancient evil creatures, including Nefarian Serpine, who seeks the Scepter of the Ancients and the infinite power it will bring him. Landy, whose previous writing credits include horror screenplays, keeps the action brisk, his characters slightly macabre, and uses humor to take the edge off the violence. The story line is intricate (with numerous plot twists and switches in allegiance), and although her actions seem better suited to a somewhat older girl, Stephanie is a well-developed main character. The level of violence may disturb younger readers, however. This is recommended for larger collections where demand for horror/fantasy is high. my thoughts I really enjoyed this book, as it's very funny and entertaining. I had to stop myself from laughing on the train It sure is a childrens' book, so don't expect too much dephts etc but it's a light and funny read and I would recommend it. Rating: 4/5 Series: Skulduggery Pleasant 1

Maggie Stiefvater > Shiver synopsis from amazon For years, Grace has watched the wolves in the woods behind her house. One yellow-eyed wolf--her wolf--is a chilling presence she can't seem to live without. Meanwhile, Sam has lived two lives: In winter, the frozen woods, the protection of the pack, and the silent company of a fearless girl. In summer, a few precious months of being human . . . until the cold makes him shift back again. Now, Grace meets a yellow-eyed boy whose familiarity takes her breath away. It's her wolf. It has to be. But as winter nears, Sam must fight to stay human--or risk losing himself, and Grace, forever. my thoughts What a great read this was! I totally loved it! A wonderful mood is set free by the writing style and even though I read the book in hot weather, I could lose myself in this winterly scenerie. I'm glad I already baught the second book in the series and pre-ordered the third book right after I finished the first. Rating: 5/5 Series: The wolves of Mercy Falls 1

I've read the first two books of the Last Dragon Chronicles and just adored them. The other books are high up on my wishlist.

After reading Weaves review I put this book on my wishlist and a couple of weeks ago bf surprised me with this book. I'm planning on reading it soon, probably during our vacation in august.

I got a new book from bf last night: Rachel Vincent > My soul to save (Soulscreamers 2)

Ah, I've heard about that. If it's (probably)not going to be published then it's quite a waste of a beautiful cover

Oh Kylie, that's totally fine. How should you know about german library catalogue systems? While volunteering at the public library in Western Australia they told me about their library system in WA. I found it to be very good, as the State library would always exchange their books with the other libraries. That little library I worked at just didn't have the money to buy a lot of books themself, so they always got 100 books or so from the state library and after a while they exchanged them for 100 other books. This way the customers always had "fresh" reading material. Because all the WA libraries use the DDC, it's possible to use all books in all libraries. So a big YAY for australian libraries

Is this a new Twilight-book? I thought they were finished after Breaking Dawn...

I loved this show and I used to have most episodes taped from tv and watched them over and over again. I was so happy when it came out on DVD and could finally see all episodes.

We don't use the Dewey Decimal Classification in germany, we have other cataloguing systems. But I kinda worked with it while volunteering in a library in Western Australia (well, I just shelved the books according to the DDC).

I hope it's "money well spent" too, as I bought those two books a few weeks ago when I was in London.

I am a trained library assistant and there's a lot more to it than loving to read. It's all the background office stuff that you need the qualifications for. I work at a university library, where it totally doesn't count that I live to read novels. I would love to work at a public library, where I could relate better to the media they have and give recommendations to the customers and such. But so far I only had a few internships at public libraries during my 3 year job training.

Good luck with your application, Kylie! Editor sounds very good.

Some libraries have different cards for different groups of people, so they might have a childrens card which is fee free and an adult card which costs xx € a year. So of course the libraries don't want everybody to get a free card for their child and just get books for themselves aswell (for free). Another reason might be, that the children's cards have blocked media from an older age group, so kids won't play +18 video games (e.g) and you just can't book anything on the kid card that's not suitied for this age.
