Hi, yeah, I was up late, wasn't I? Has become a bit of a bad habit, that! I'm on Garden Leave from work, so have no need of watching the clock to make sure I can get up really early for work, which is nice! I'm trying to enjoy this time while I have it & make the most of it by staying up late, lol!

I'm a Canuck (Canadian) stranded for my sins (read: I fell in love with a Brit) in the UK, lol! I would have moved home to Canada by now if not for him, but he's not ready to go there to live, hence the stranded here.
Phew, it's a good thing your book's not Lit-fic - I'm trying to avoid anything that could be considered taxing of my brain cells (I assure you I jest) for this challenge - the challenge is enough of a challenge:thud:!

I finished reading The Skin Gods the other day & I really really enjoyed this one. So much better than Rosary Girls, IMO. I did, however, have to rate it at 8.75 because it isn't quite (just barely) in the league of Mr. Deaver (again, IMO), so it couldn't have a 9, lol!

lol! The book I am currently reading has a prologue, but the author has used that to tie this current book to his last & to explain a little about how the book is going to develop. Kinda important information, I think! (Which I almost skipped on the advice of the person who inspired this thread :motz:)

There is NO way that you are turning 69 next week! Surely you jest? All I can say is you look fab (& there is no need for the oft implied qualifier, ie: "........for an old chick" - you just look fab!) It is great what you can do with timers on cameras (once you get them figured out, that is, lol!)
Well, I look forward to reading your book & if it's ok with you, I think I would like to use it as one of my choices toward a reading challenge that I am doing? It's a global reading challenge where I'm trying (& I stress the word trying) to read a book written by an author from every country in the world. You could be one of my choices for the UK! (are you English, Scottish or Welsh?)

Ooh, Lucy, when you do read it, let me know what you think? I started it but never finished it! I won't say why as I don't want to put any preconceptions into your head & equally don't want to influence whether you finish it or not! What I read I hated, suffice to say. Also agree with what everyone has said about The Tenth Circle. Definately one of her worst books (if not the worst?), however I did manage to finish it - barely.

I read this a fairly long time ago & loved it. Just googled it & found an article on Wikipedia & saw this bit: "Controversy After the Japanese edition of Memoirs of a Geisha was published, Arthur Golden was sued for breach of contract and defamation of character by Mineko Iwasaki, a retired geisha he had interviewed for background information while writing the novel. The plaintiff asserted that Golden had agreed to protect her anonymity, due to the traditional code of silence about their clients, if she told him about her life as a geisha. However, Golden listed Iwasaki as a source in his acknowledgments for the novel, causing her to face a serious backlash. She even received death threats.[1]. Arthur Golden of his behalf countered that he had tapes of the conversations [2]. Eventually, in 2003, Golden's publisher settled with Iwasaki out of court for an undisclosed sum of money. Iwasaki later went on to write her own autobiography, an account different from Arthur Golden's novel, thus proving that Golden's was a work of fiction and not based on Iwasaki's life. The book was published as Geisha, a Life in the U.S. and Geisha of Gion in the UK." I think I must go find this book & see what it is like compared to Memoirs of a Geisha!

But did you know that they are a Canadian company from........ready for it? (I know you will appreciate this Peacefield) ........New Brunswick!! They are from Florenceville, NB & have a Mahousive (read: massive) factory there & when you drive through Florenceville all you can smell is french fries!! I love (& miss) McCain products & really really wish we could get more of them here in the UK!

Ok, I suppose I sort of agree with the "everything in moderation" theory - sort of. There have been times in my life where reading books was what saved my life & reading became something I did to the exclusion of most everything else, as a protection mechanism. Personally, I don't see anything wrong with that. I don't see (& if I am wrong, then fine) how reading could be/has ever been something that was considered a distructive element within someone's life. I think the "in moderation" applies much better to things like desserts, alcohol, partying - things like that. Books? Perhaps one could apply that to genres of books, but to reading on a whole? Nah, just don't see it happening, nor the need for that to happen! I agree that the person who said it was someone who for whatever reason felt that they needed to apologise for being a reader & that is such a shame! Celebrate the fact that you are a reader, I say!

Well, that was a complete bust. The p2p site that was showing it isn't working for some reason! There are people on the chat who say they are getting it, but I'm not. Just a black screen, grrrrrrrrrrr!

Well, there isn't any telly coverage (big bloody surprise!) in this country, but I have just managed to find an internet p2p that is saying they will be showing some of the games. They're showing the France vs Germany & Canada vs Slovakia game, so I suppose that at 7:15 this evening I shall be glued to the laptop cheering Canada on! Now, as I am Canadian, they are naturally my choice to win, but if they can't win then I am picking Sweden (I always do!)

Impatient people. I work in ther service industry & it never ceases to amaze me how annoyed people can get if someone hasn't jumped to serve them the minute they walk into the room - god forbid they should actually wait more than a minute!

I was doing some tidying up on LibraryThing today & discoverd a glaring omission from my library - all of the Rebus series. Not sure how I managed to forget to add them to my library, but the omission has now been rectified. Whist adding them I had a browse around Ian Rankin's website & found this. I did it, but it's really tough as I read a lot of them ages ago! Also, there are no answers that I can find, so you have to do a little detective work to see if you got the answers right.
