My list includes
Sharyn McCrumb: Bimbos of the Death Sun
Garth Stein: The Art of Racing in the Rain
Sebastian Fitzek: Therapy
John Grogan: Marley and Me
Mark Haddon: The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time
I probably won't be getting any of these because my mother refuses to be Internet-literate and order these online from places where they are actually available (my parents live in a small town with no bookstores, just a very small, stupid and expensive selection of books in a food market). Also I think that my BF might not afford any of these, being student and all. I'll have to be my own Santa I think

Funnily enough, my morning commute reading is King's Lisey's Story, and he's just mentioned this story, and how the women use their bras as slingshots!
I just finished Lisey's Story too, and noticed the reference to Savages. What's more, I had just read Alan Bennett's The Uncommon Reader in which the Queen was also reading the book. Having read this thread Savages made its way to my TBR. Thanks!

I understood the question a bit differently but I'm not sure whether I got it right either. What are the elements in the book that make it American, what "stereotypical" American elements there are to make it an American text? Was that it?

This sounded such an interesting read that I had to order it online because there were no copies in the library. Can't wait to read it!

I just discovered play.com which is even cheaper than my usual favorite site adlibris.com (only for Finland, Sweden, Norway and Denmark). The only downside is that it might cost me more cause now I'll be able to order book more frequently. I have to try to keep myself in check.
I do love free shipping though...

No you're right. I couldn't resist it and just went ahead and peeked! :)
Not sorry though!!
Actually I meant literally, the spoiler tag didn't work. It clearly read spoiler - then the bit with Mike and then - spoiler, in plain view. Now it works normally. I don't know why it didn't before.
I don't mind that much though because the bit was not too surprising and revealing

That spoiler tag didn't work :/

I've read A Tale of Two Cities (the only Dickens I've read so far) and I loved it, it's in my alltime top 5 reads. It starts off quite slowly but once you get past the first 100 pages or so it gets really good. One of my favorite characters in literature is in that book So yes I'll definitely recommend it!

I've only read Gentlemen and Players and I really enjoyed it! I didn't want to put it down for anything.
I've also started Chocolat once and I like it too, but for some reason or another didn't finish it.

I had spring roll with rice and vegetables, I also fried one onion to go with it. This was covered in sweet thai chili sauce. Yum!

This definitely earned its place in my wishlist. Thank Ruth!

I finished Deja Dead this afternoon and I really enjoyed it! I already found the next book of the series and will probably start it tonight unless I'm more tempted by Stephenie Meyer's Twilight.
I also read Alan Bennett's The Uncommon Reader today, it was a nice quick read.

John Grogan's Marley and me made me really happy and I'm betting it's one of those books that will keep doing so whenever I reread it.

Usually I'll go first for the new titles section, then straight to returns and then to the English lit section. If I'm still empty handed after this, I'll go to the computers and search for some titles that pop into mind. If these titles are not available and I have the time I'll start going through the fiction section from A to

Finished Linda La Plante's Above Suspicion. A nicely woven story - classic good guys vs bad guy....easy read.
Have you read Lynda La Plante's Trial and Retribution -series? I've read one of them (a great read!) and have two others waiting in my bookshelf. The tv-series are also great, I think they are the best British detective series (along with Minette Walters's series). I might try Above Suspicion too if it's good.

Finished Dearly Devoted Dexter over a week ago but forget to record it. It was really good and surprisingly disturbing. There were elements of violence that I've never come across before in any thrillers or detective novels. I didn't think I could be shocked but I was wrong.
I'm now in the middle of Kathy Reichs's Deja Dead. I also started Martin Amis's Time's Arrow but haven't had the time for that lately because I've been engrossed by Deja Dead.

I know! I just want him to get a decent hair cut. She and Mike should definitely get back together
A decent haircut and another girlfriend! And make that asap. I just know that throughout season 5 I won't rest until Susan and Mike are back together. They've always struggled, why couldn't they just be together and have a happy season for once?
-
I watched the first episode yesterday and I just can't get over the fact that Susan's not with Mike anymore I hope I don't start hating her for sleeping with the painter eventhough it was Mike that did the dumping. What's with the painter's hair anyway? Graah!
Just like Twinkle, I also miss Gaby's glamour. But at least she's still with Carlos.
Other than that, it seems like there's potential.
A problem with... classics

Yes I would, even if I hadn't read any classics. I don't really see why not
