StephenKingman, you're quite entitled to like the books you do I'm happy somebody liked TGWLTG, so King didn't write it in vain -
What are you planning to watch on TV today/tonight
frankie replied to Johnny Carson Whit's topic in Music / TV / Films
BF and I are going to start watching Helter Skelter. I'm spooked already =/ -
He admits to being a lazy person recently, and he feels he was depressed for a period of time but the weight loss is really beneficial for his life and mood and you can see how he's enjoying it And now he has the chance to be the better father he wants to be, being able to play with the kids and not get exhausted so easily. All in all, watch the show!!!

1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die
frankie replied to kitty_kitty's topic in General Book Discussions
You're right, the synopsis does sound intriguing It's definitely different from the Moomins, they are for kids (but can be read by adults as well), although I've heard that . When I was younger I used to forget which one was from Finland and which one was from Sweden: Tove Jansson or Astrid Lindgren. When I learnt that Tove was from Finland I remember being so disappointed because I really dislike the Moomins and I just love all of the Astrid Lindgren novels that I've read. It broke my tiny heart -
Definitely, he seems like a nice guy on the show, he's nothing I expected him to be! I think he's more handsome in the face when he has more meat on his bone, the skinny phase was not my cup of tea. (There's also Shar Jackson on the show, I suppose she was the one he was with before he started going out with Britney? Lots of drama on the show on Shar's side, I think K is handling it very well, not getting into it infront of the cameras and all).

I like contemporary writing as well, I've been reading a lot of classics now partly because of the Rory challenge and 1001 Books challenge, although I do enjoy classic for other reasons, too. But you guessed correctly, I'm not very familiar with science fiction. I've been wanting to try it out for a while (just so that I could at least say I've tried) but I just feel like I don't have the brain for it, it's too technical and too complicated. I also don't think I'd enjoy all the details of machines and such, I prefer people Maybe I just need to find really good titles and great recommendations *wink wink!* Another genre which I'm novice at is the war genre. For so long I used to think that wars are just cruel and boring, and how could anyone make it seem interesting? Guns go off, people get killed or wounded. And this for 400 pages? No thank you. But then I decided to read this Finnish war classic around the time of Finland's independence day and I really enjoyed it, and I even found it funny at times, the characters were really juicy. And of course there was description of war in Gone with the Wind and you know how much I liked it. So I've realised I've been missing out these great novels just because I assumed they'd be boring. Tut tut! Otherwise I can't think of any other genre I would steer clear of.

Me too, you're not alone! I didn't like him when he was with Britney or shortly after they broke up, but I'm kinda liking him now and I'm also finding him rather handsome

Well there you go, one should always keep their mind open. I think we agreed on this same topic ages ago already, I always think it's really nice to notice people who'd try anything new and not just go for what they feel comfortable with. I myself haven't always felt too keen on trying out unfamiliar genres but I've been pushing myself for a while now and there are only positive sides to it

Wikied him, he looks so familiar but I can't place his face anywhere. Too bad he ruined it for you I don't think there are any real duckheads around this time, and the show's totally worth watching if not for anything else, than just to hear Bach's comments! I don't think Sebastian is chubby either! I was really weirded out that he's on the show since he's just a regular guy with a regular built. But then there's also Nicole Eggert from Baywatch and I think she's normal as well and her BMI is normal, but she feels she's not the way she used to be and feels like she needs to lose weight. (There's also K-Fed, Bobby Brown, and Jay from Project Runway!! Excellent casting IMO)

I don't think it counts if you judge it in a positive way...? If you would've judged that the book will be awful because of the title, you'd be missing the chance of perhaps finding the best ever book!

It doesn't ring any bells in my head, you could search it and create a thread if there's nothing on the subject I wouldn't mind giggling at people's stories about how envious/puzzled/confused/etc. looks they got when they were buying 20 books at a time Let's just hope he thought of the name himself and didn't suggest something like "awesome book, read me!" and was made to change it at the very demanding request made by the editor, publishers etc

Haha, thanks I've had it since Friday I think. It's from the truly hilarious Celebrity Fit Club - Boot Camp -series. Sebastian Bach is sooooo funny in it

1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die

Ah, I'd forgotten about Tove Jansson! I guess that's partly because although she was from Finland, she was actually Swedish-Finn and she wrote in Swedish. Her Moomins novels are popular here but I've never been a fan, I thought the Moomins are really boring So I have to say I've never read anything by her (I've watched the tv-series as a kid and that's it). I tried one of her book once for about a page and it was okay, I can't really remember which book it was and why I didn't finish it. If you're interested in the novel, do give it a go! I think ii from the forum has read it, or at least some other Jansson novel and if I remember correctly she enjoyed it -
Nope, this is definitely not it, in fact this is quite the opposite I tell you! I wonder if there are any Anonymous Bookbuyers clubs around? I'd want to join, but not so that I could think negatively about the habit, but so I could exchange tips and great stories! Exactly! One should remember this when thinking about naming their own future best-sellers

The Hunger Games Series by Suzanne Collins
frankie replied to DeWilde's topic in Children's / Young Adult
I'm beginning to be really intrigued by this, I guess I need to try and get it somewhere -
It's now 11.28 daylight saving time, I think you Brits are 2 hours behind us Finns. This week I've been getting up early because I'm staying at BF's, he wakes up early every week day to go to the gym before school. I'm hoping this early waking routine stays with me when I go home, the days are longer that way And no I don't bounce out a bed like a rocket, I always want to sleep some more

They do? There goes Body Shop as well

I'm half way through

Hello Abby, nice to meet you but I think you've come to the wrong place if you're looking for a cure Push is a great novel, I hope you enjoy it! And yep the acronym is terrible and it doesn't shorten the process of writing down the title that much

I finally finished Helter Skelter by Vincent Bugliosi with Curt Gentry. Very gripping in the beginning, and interesting throughout the book but a bit too detailed at times. Next I want to read something lighter for sure
