  1. I don't want to mess with the flow by looking up words. Also, I can usually figure them out in the context. I had no idea, though, that natives would also find words they didn't know in books. When I'm reading in Finnish, there's hardly ever words I don't know.
  2. Don't run away with it Let me have a proper look at it, that's nice, just hand it in gently, I'll take good care of it... I should have room for it, but I'm determined not to buy books because I'm saving money for my UK trip next autumn and I just know there'll be plenty of secondhand bookshops, where all the books are in English! That's my idea of heaven
  3. I'm not a fan of tearing up books but I have to admit those look pretty cool. I wouldn't do anything like that myself though, I'd kill a book and then the plant would die as well, having me as the caretaker. Too much killing for my taste!
  4. I started reading Gloria Naylor's The Women of Brewster Place last night.
  5. I saw you comment on my reading thread and I realised you must've just gone to work, so I thought I'd pop in and say good morning :D How's it going?

  6. I might be a bit evil but I would've liked to see Shabby kicked out of the house rather than her going out of her own accord.
  7. Oh my goodness, that Possession edition is to die for! Beautiful I wants!
  8. The ending is no good, the only downside to pets is that we unfortunately outlive them But there are some really fun and quirky pet tales in the very last few pages, you'll enjoy them I'm sure!
  9. I finished Karen Harper's Shaker Run and I'm definitely in the mood for another thriller! I might have to go and find the other Karen Harper novel I have...
  10. I would, if they weren't most of them in Finnish! Or would you like to learn a new language? Shall I send a dictionary with the books
  11. This week I'm going to do the opposite of what I've been doing lately: I'm going to go through my books and take away books that I've read and know I won't be rereading in the future, and books that I've bought but have gone off and don't think will read even for the first time. I'm also going to update my book "reviews" at some point. A determined
  12. Enter SandMan Welcome, welcome, nice to have you on board!
  13. I'm glad I was able to relieve you a bit If you think 1.5 kilos is much, think about how huge the larger buckets are! ... and because I packed up all the strawberries and chocs and you need to save me a seat on a very particular boat? So how has it been going this week, Ooshie? And how about you others? It's been really hot in here for the last couple of days, always over 25 C degrees, nearer 30 degrees. I've just been too hot to go to the gym. I'd love to go but I can't survive going to the stores let alone start pumping iron. What can you do?
  14. Haha, thanks Mexicola It's an amazing song, I love the voice of the singer and the song brings back good memories It's a real feel good -tune, and rather sexy, although in a not that obvious way, me thinks.
  15. Haha, Abby I hope you don't mind, I just have to put the link on here as well It's a clip of a Finnish race car driver. Something goes wrong, listen carefully at the end of the clip and pay close attention to the driver's hand gestures
  16. I'm really glad you're enjoying it, it's such a marvellous, heart-warming story I was bawling my eyes out on page four I think Edit: I'm reading Karen Harper's Shaker Run. It's my first book by her, it's going alright. I think it's the first thriller I've read in a (too) long while, I'm totally enjoying the thriller aspect of it
  17. I gave up on Howards End, at least temporarily, I'm reading Andy McCoy's memoirs about himself and Hanoi Rocks. Mighty fascinating stuff!
  18. Phew! Leave me a glass of champaigne as well, don't go overboard with it by yourself I'll just have to read it and see for myself then. It shouldn't be too long a read so I'm not totally despaired
  19. Ooshie! I've got to leave the boat for a quick while in the future: I've noticed that Through the Looking Glass, the sequel to AiW, is also on 1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die and so I need to read it at one point.
  20. I've decided to tackle Howards End eventhough I hated Forster's other novel (can't even remember the title).
  21. Or, maybe they've just gone in to release the sexual tension that Steve was talking about
  22. I'll be there in 1,5 years...
  23. I finished One hundredth Thing about Caroline by Lois Lowry. I have no idea what to read next but I think I'll be able to think of something, having so many books
  24. Great review Kate, I'm going to have to add this to my wishlist Thanks!
  25. I was thinking about some champs, it would go nicely with the strawberries and the chocolate Cheers! Remind me not to eat anything your father cooks, unless you have gallons and gallons of milk Ben, the two posts in the beginning of the thread are from Shona's list that's somewhere in the virtual world, you'll find it if you google it. All the books have been mentioned in the series so that's why they're on the list and they are in two separate posts because they didn't all fit in one post, me thinks. I don't have a Word document myself, I'm not sure if Shona provides one. So basically, just get reading the books from the list :eek2: Edit: Here's a link for you.
