Great to hear you liked this one! I liked the Shopaholic books, but like you, only the first so and so many. For example Shopaholic and Sister was just horrible. But I have to say I've not loved all of Kinsella standalones, either. But mostly they are really great

And what nice statistics they are! I bet it was fun to play around with them Gathering bookish data and stuff... My boss's elbow was hurting this week and so I got to do a lot of her typing on the computer, for stuff (she has a business and works from home so it was pretty much business related). I got to use this program where I just typed in all the client info and then all the work that had been done for them, and then just clickety click, and out came an invoice for the client, in this ready invoice-'formula'. It was so much fun Boss said it took her a lot longer to do it, and I said I wanted the program as a Christmas present! She asked me what I was going to do with it. I said, I'd just type in stuff and bill people! I think I should've been a secretary or something.

I only have one week at work left, and then I'm off for the second part of my summer holidays. 3 weeks!!! I'm BUZZING! 3 weeks of doing absolutely no work. I'm going to my hometown on Saturday and will stay there for almost a week. Initially I wanted to stay in Helsinki for a few days before heading out, just to cool off, but my cousin is only available during the weekends and if I want to see him, I'll have to be in Nurmes on a weekend. So I thought why not travel there the very first day of holidays and just get into a summer holiday mood by going out of town, and changing the scenery 100%. I will be meeting my cousin's daughter for the second time and I'm really excited about that, I've only met her once, last Christmas. She's adorable (And they have a dog who is so friendly and keen on visitors! I can't wait to play ball!!!) I'm sure we'll go to the library and see what books they are selling And we'll go and check out the thrift shops for books, too. As it's my holiday, I'm allowed to buy books, I'll say! And then the most important thing: which books to take with me, to read! I'm wondering if I should just go with a library read and reduce the number of library books to be read, or go with a TBR book. Or maybe I should go with something that is a perfect holiday read, instead. Maybe the book of letters and diaries by two Finnish women, dating back to the 50s. I found that book one summer, maybe 4 years ago, and loved reading it, but never finished... I think that might set me in the holiday mood! (I don't want to bring a really fancy, new book, so that I won't accidentally get it all ruffled up in my backpack.) Oh boy

2 weeks isn't a too long wait! I read a fair chunk of the book yesterday, and it's still good

Yep And he was very private about his cancer, he only told his closest ones, like his family, obviously. But nobody else. He kept going like there was nothing the matter with him.

I have wondered about your username! Thank goodness I didn't have to ask and you explained it yourself, willingly and voluntarily

Don't worry at all, I did have a feeling you probably meant a general 'you' and not me I just think, like you, fanzones at a festival are a a rip-off I'll keep my fingers crossed everything works out just fine

I personally think this is one of King's greatest

Oooh, this one's great! I hope you will like it!

I'd most definitely go to a regular concert of Rammstein's if they did such a thing here in Finland! But it was a festival they did this year. They may have performed in Finland a few times, but I've never lived in Helsinki before, at the time, so I've never had this easy-access opportunity to go and see them (I used to live further up north). My job doesn't pay that well, so I can't really afford to travel to another country just to go and see Rammstein, unfortunately. And Rammstein is by no means my most favorite band, it's just one that I've listened to for about 2 decades, so it was a big deal for me, being able to see them. I hope the staff figure out what's wrong with her ASAP and can fix it, and that Jeanne can go home with her parents soon enough. That's so nice, having a niece and a goddaughter

It isn't, isn't it? A woman seeks the bigger picture, the truth behind all truths.... In real time! Would it make a great novel, though?

I've loved all of these! There's a lot of great stuff on your TBR!

I can't remember when I've listened to Michael Jackson the last time.... It's been a while! I was a fan when I was a kid. It's funny how back in the day I didn't know what the lyrics were to some of his songs and even if I did, I wouldn't have known what they meant. For example this particular song: it's only now that I understand it

I'm sorry about you Nan, it's really upsetting when one doesn't know what is the root of the problem and how to take care of it. I hope she'll get better soon!

How many books have you read this year?
frankie replied to aromaannie's topic in General Book Discussions
21 over here, too! I'm happy to hear you're on track! At the beginning of the year I think I aimed for 75, but have lost hope on that a long time ago. I read 52 books last year and now I'm hoping I'll get to the same number. Let's keep cracking -
There's a movie I've seen, but I can't for the life of me think what movie it is. The part of the movie I can remember is that a character played by Jennifer Aniston has gone I just can't figure out which movie this is. I've gone through Aniston's IMDB list and the movies she's in and which I've watched, but I can't figure it out. Can anyone help me? Edit: If it helps, Jennifer Aniston's character might not have been the main character. It may have been a movie where there were a few leading ladies with their leading men, Jennifer's being only one part of the whole story. Or it may have been her as the leading lady. Both are possibilities. Edit: Could it have been The Break-Up? The only reason I haven't really considered it before is that (SPOILER ALERT) Edit: Okay I solved the mystery!! I can't believe it took me so long to figure it out. Because I've seen the movie 3 times and it's one of my favorites! The reason I didn't think it could be this movie, is because I thought I remembered the movie inside out, but apparently I didn't!! Admittedly, the plot line of the character Aniston plays is my least favorite in the movie, and the one I like the most is by Ginnifer Goodwin and Justin Long, but surely I should've remembered the whole thing.... Oh and it's He's Just Not That Into You. I would recommend it to anyone who likes romantic comedies. Anyways, never mind, thank you and good night I'll put the whole thing behind the spoiler curtain so you won't know what happens in the movie.

I watched Family Stone. Great cast but stupid movie. Luke Wilson and Sarah Jessica Park and the characters they played saved it.

Wow, that's a long list, thanks! I shall add the titles to the first post. I haven't heard of any of these, apart from Carry On. Garth Greenwell was a guest at a Helsinki Lit event about a month or two ago. I was initially going to go with a friend, but he cancelled and I didn't want to go on my own. It made me add WBtY on a reading list, though! My Boss is reading the book at the moment, she's liking it. I will have to read it at some point! Boss watched the Helsinki Lit on TV and said the man was so nice Oh yes, The Stranger's Child! I want to read it so bad I also want to read The Swimming-Pool Library.

I'm currently reading My Not So Perfect Life by Sophie Kinsella. Only 42 pages in, but I'm really enjoying it! I was reading it the other night and I got to page 12 and there was a thing that made me laugh so hard I feared I was going to wake up the neighbors

Thanks, I'm going to need it! Me, too! I was thinking just earlier today how I'd like to read more books that are set in similar places. But the characters wouldn't be the same... I do rate my Finnish reads, too. The book in question is the one by an acquaintance, and initially I thought I probably might not want to rate his book in case he googled his name and the book title and saw my rating. But then I did give it a 3/5 and that's not a bad rating. I rated the book on GR and so I was meant to rate it on here, too, but somehow I forgot. Or was still in the mindset of not rating it, even though I'd decided to rate it It must've just slipped my mind in the end! Yay! I dare say you might like it

I've finished The Bookshop on the Corner by Jenny Colgan and started My Not So Perfect Life by Sophie Kinsella.

I've started watching more movies these days. I've now watched Love Happens and Then She Found Me. Both enjoyable. Now I'm starting to watch The First Wives Club.

21. The Bookshop on the Corner by Jenny Colgan Blurb: Nina Redmond is a literary matchmaker. Pairing a reader with that perfect book is her passion... and also her job. Or at least it was. Until yesterday, she was a librarian in the hectic city. But now the job she loves is no more. Determined to make a new life for herself, Nina moves to a sleepy village many miles away. There she buys a van and transforms it into a mobile bookshop that she drives from neighborhood to neighborhood, changing one life after another with the power of storytelling. From helping her grumpy landlord deliver a lamb to sharing picnics with a charming train conductor who serenades her with poetry, Nina discovers there's plenty of adventure, magic, and soul in a place that's beginnimg to feel like home... a place where she just might be able to write her own happy ending. Thoughts: Chesilbeach recommended Jenny Colgan's novels in the Sophie Kinsella thread, and that's how I came to read this book (I obviously wanted to start with a novel that has to do with books ) Thanks for the recommendation! Nina is a reader and a dreamer, and has escaped into the world of books most often in her life. But things change when she sets up a mobile bookshop. Oh how I would love to do what she did, and just start selling books to people. Move somewhere else and start from square one. A really endearing read. I miss the characters and the setting. I could've just read on. 4/5

It's the last day of June, and I can say this month was also better for me reading-wise, than the first four months of the year! I read 4 books, and they all got good marks: June 18. Pimeyden Helsinki by Ville Pesola 19. The Little Bookshop of Lonely Hearts by Annie Darling 3/5 thoughts 20. The Crime Writer by Jill Dawson 3/5 thoughts 21. The Bookshop on the Corner by Jenny Colgan 4/5

I don't think I've ever bought a book I already owned with a different title, but I can imagine how annoying it would be!! Athena said: I'm glad I'm not the only one who struggles with the same thing! But the struggle is very real.... But I'm feeling good about this, as I can already cross one title off the list as I finished it last night!
