These sound like great books. Any suggestions as to which to start with?

I'm currently using my Mr B's bookmark, it's the only one I have and now you have made me want to get an extra specially lovely bookmark... I'm so easily lead! This is one drawback of E-books. No bookmarks.

I only read one, which is a professional magazine: "The Chemical Engineer". I'm always disapointed with mags when I buy them and wish I'd bought a book instead!

I know this is "where" do you keep you books, but "how" do you store them? My Mum is paraniod about making sure they are in height order, whereas I insist that they are in alphabetical order by author for fiction, and in subject sections for non-fiction (sad I know). We have so many books here that if we put them in height order we would never find anything... can you imagine... Nellie: Darling! I'm can't find my Harry Potter book do you know where it is? Woah! Thats a lot of books! Is reading part of your job, or did you get through that many "just for fun" as it were?

I don't think this person was judging particularly, they just had a preconcieved idea that "readers" read a lot of books. I did set her straight!

I said exactly that! My colleague seemed to think unless you read lots of books then it wasn't really reading. That confused me slightly. It's interesting to hear that people's reading pace varies depending on the book. I hadn't thought about it until my colleague raised it.

I have finished Notes On A Scandal and I loved it! The writing is very clever, from the start you sense that the relationship between the two women is very odd, although neither realise this. The air of menace and obession is very cleverly done.

I suppose reading rate depends on how many hours in a day you have to read! I read probably 1-2 hours per day on average. I know what you mean about complex plots or characters when you need to slow down in order to be able to remember parts. There are some books that use language so beautifully that somehow it makes you read at the right pace.

I had an interesting chat with a colleague today. I read one book about every eight days or so. I know this speed probably seems quick to many folks who don't read much, but I know that some people on here read far more than that! I was interested when she suggested that people who read quickly are real bookworms and if you read slowly then you can't be a "real" reader. There are some books I do "binge read", but others I take more time over. I can't find the post now, so apologies to the person that posted it, but they said that if a book is particularly well written they like to take time savouring the words, which I think is lovely. Personally I think it makes no difference at all, but I know that books I read quickly I never remember quite as well as the ones I take my time over. Any thoughts?

I have read it, and really enjoyed it. I love the way she writes about the people involved and also how the case influenced crime writers. I went on to read some of the books that she references as having been influenced by the case.

I have to be honest, I really don't get BB... Can someone explain to me what the attraction is? It seems really, really dull! There must be something I'm missing as everyone loves it!

Blimey, that must have been a complicated model to build. I had an orrery made for my husband as a wedding present, and it's so complicated I couldn't imagine even trying to start putting it together.

One written by a Russian Author and set in Russia too: The Master And Margarita By Mikhail Bulgakov. It's a brilliant, very dark and very funny book about good and evil.

I thought Chick Flick was a flim that women like... Romantic Comedies, that sort of thing. FOur Weddings & a Funneral. That sort of thing.

What is beading? A couple of folks have mentioned that and it sounds interesting.

My husband taught me to start with, but then I went on a couple of courses. It's not as difficult as you might think to take a "good" picture, even with an ordinary compact camera. It's all about understanding the light and composition, so if you paint, you probably have a great understanding of that already. To take "Wow factor" pictures is harder, and more technical as you need to understand how the camera works so you can control the light in the way that you want, but it's by no means impossible, you just need to spend some time learning the basics and then practising. I would recommend a local night school type course to get you going with the technical bits. Once you have that, ALWAYS have a camera with you to practise. You'll be amazed how quickly you start to take amazing pictures!

Thanks! That last one I have blown up to 16 x 32 inches and framed on my stairwell. It reminds me of my honeymoon when I took it.
