  1. 7. "Well, yes mate. See, I'm dishonest. And a dishonest man you can always trust to be dishonest. Honestly. It's the honest ones you need to watch out for, because you never know when they're going to do something incredibly... stupid." - Captain Jack Sparrow.
  2. I love lists too; it seems like there's a few of us list-lovers on here. I agree entirely, though, making lists is great; procrastination is in general really, although most of the time it just stops me from getting things done, hehe. I just finished organising and cataloging my to-be-read books - digital and non-digital - and the list stands at a depressing 214. Looks like 2011 is going to be an uphill struggle. Ooh thanks for the recommendation - I've heard of them before; I think a friend may of mentioned them but I just didn't get around to purchasing them. In my day of total bookishness - that is a word, trust me - I decided that I might as well go the whole run and get myself working on a wishlist as well as completely organising all my books in my room, and making a to-be-read list as well. Thanks to you, I have my first book for the list.

I think we've just about got The Ashes wrapped up; makes all the late nights - early mornings - worth it for sure.
  4. Yeah at first I was worried I wouldn't like them, because I'm obviously accustomed to the feel of an actual novel; I remember scoffing contemptuously a few months back at a friend who was considering getting an e-reader. I really laid into him suggesting that they could never generate the feel of actually reading a book, but I owe him an apology for sure. They've done a great job in making them light and easy to use; I barely notice I'm reading digitally, even if I use it for hours on end. You're so right about commuting as well, I'm sure I'll be using it on holidays and trips away; no doubt about it. That sounds quite bad. At present - touch wood - I haven't had any problems with mine, and I've been using those covers that Amazon advertised with the sale of the Kindle. I'm not sure which one you are referring too, but mine is unlit also, so it sounds like that's the one you're talking about. Well, anyway, I hope you manage to get a refund and I'm glad like me you're loving you're Kindle. In Other News I just spent the last three hours cataloging my books and seeing which ones I have and haven't read, in order to form myself a to-be-read list. I'm quite happy I already had a list ready to work on that I made about 6 months ago, otherwise the whole process would have been much more laborious. Frighteningly enough, my finish total - consisting of both digital and non-digital books - amounts to 214. Yeah, looks like I've got some work to do. Wishlist More importantly I've decided to make a wishlist. It'll start off entirely blank, and then throughout the year I'll listen to the thoughts of you guys, and add anything that sounds good. So if anyone finds anything they think I might find a good read, feel free to drop me a message or leave a comment.
  5. Took me four and a half hours to clean my room and sort out all my books, not bad going. Now to make a to-be-read list.

    Helo!

Hey there and welcome to the forum. I've been meaning to read The Stand for a long time now after picking it up cheap early this year at a book-shop charity sale near where I live. It's been recommended by - well, everyone I've discussed Stephen King with, so thanks for making me push it up the to-be-read list. Also, I received a Kindle for Christmas and I'll be the first to give glowing reviews, as I adore mine. I've used it practically every day, and already it's saving me lots of space - another plus. Anyway, hope to see you around discussion and once again welcome to BCF.
  7. Yes, seems every year I start well and dwindle, I'm hoping next year is a lot different to be honest. On another note, I've spent the last four hours re-organising my books now, and I'm about to make a to-be-read list. I'm slightly worried that the total will put me off altogether, haha.
  8. They should pay me for advertising, haha. I'm glad it sounds appealing to you Paula; I think a lot of people are surprised at how handy they are.
  9. Interesting reviews Himself, and good luck with the 2011 reading. You have an impressive looking list and I look forward to reading your thoughts through the year.
  10. Cold Shoulder - Adele.
  11. Hey Abby, impressive list; it definitely looks like you've got some good books to get through in 2011. I've been thinking about trying to sort out my to-be-read list, which when it was abandoned stood at around 95. Since then I've bought a lot more books, plus download a lot for my Amazon Kindle, so my to-be-read pile is probably looking somewhere closer to the two-hundreds at the minute. Obviously you can see why I'm debating about having a sort out. Anyway, enough of my deliberating, hope you have a good year for reading and I look forward to reading your thoughts.
  12. I bought Feeling The Pressure, Darren Styles' second studio album, yesterday. Now I don't normally go for that type of dance and clubland music, but I needed something upbeat and this does the trick. I've also bought another couple of albums recently: Some Kind of Trouble by James Blunt, and Rihanna's new album Loud. Both good buys which I'm enjoying.
  13. Haha something it seems we all struggle with, so best of luck with that one.
  14. Hey Pixie, good look with your perusals in 2011, I look forward to reading your thoughts. I too am like you, drowning in a sea of books with no space to spare. I decided on resolving the situation by buying myself an Amazon Kindle; although I'll never shy away from an actual novel and flicking through pages, it has helped already to save myself the space I would have had to try find with the new purchases made with my Christmas money. This way I haven't had too, it's great.
  15. Yeah the cases from Amazon are quite expensive to be honest, I'm sure if you had a quick look around you could find some better ones on Ebay, definitely. Admittedly I didn't purchase my case from there - I got it from Amazon myself - but if I'd have known in advance then I would have cautioned my mum against buying from there because of the expense. Anyway, I do hope you're enjoying yours as much as I am mine. Being originally a skeptic at first with e-readers, I have now seen that the advantages definitely out-weigh the disadvantages. If you want something that you can easily carry around with you that can access thousands of books instantly, saving you loads of space, this is certainly something you'd love. Obviously being on here you'll be an avid reading already, but I really feel this will help people read more than usual; like it certainly has for me. Thanks, and please let me know if you do decide to get one or not.
  16. As good as excuse as any; in your defense you did well to get from one Christmas to another without spending gift cards. Thanks, I'll let you know if I find anything you might like.
  17. Hehe, it's amazing. Thanks, and the same to you of course.
  18. Thanks Kylie, I'm sure I will find some time, I think especially my new Amazon Kindle will help a lot with that. Don't worry, I won't forget my non-digital novels still sat upon my shelves; I still have a to-be-read pile which seems to just ever-increase rather than go down, that I should really get stuck into in 2011. Well, I guess we'll just have to see where our reading takes us in the new year; an exciting prospect for sure.
  19. Finished Lord Sunday by Garth Nix last night - or rather about 2:00am this morning. It has been a while since I've read so much in one go like I did yesterday, and I think possibly my Amazon Kindle is re-lighting my reading mojo. I find it quite easy to sit and let the hours float on by, not thinking that I'm actually reading digitally. I read all of Lord Sunday in one day and it reminds me of when I used to sit for hours on end enjoying a book until it was finished. Anyway, about the novel. I personally thought that Lord Sunday wrapped up The Keys to the Kingdom series really well; I was pleasantly surprised with the conclusion, which I assumed would be a let-down. It wasn't; instead the book concluded a series full of emotion and action; a series that really sweeps up the reader in its clutches and doesn't let you go until you've followed Arthur - the main protagonist - right through to his final battle. I'd recommend the series to anyone that enjoys a good fantasy novel or seven to help the time fly by. 4/5.
  20. Somewhat relaxed for a change; a bit of weight off my shoulders at last.

Thanks Janet, hope everything's good with you. :)

  21. Finished Lord Sunday by Garth Nix last night, and I must say I did enjoy the way in which the series concluded. All seven books I have enjoyed over the past years, and with like most series' it is sad to reach the end. I was worried that the conclusion would be a let-down, but I loved the way it wrapped things up; on a whole The Keys to the Kingdom series is a great read.
  22. Awesome, that sounds great. I guess they're pretty necessary really, without mine I'd sure end up scratching mine seen as though I'll be taking it with me on travel quite a lot. I am really quite happy with how well I've settled into using mine though; seems like I got a great gift this Christmas.
  23. Good luck with all your 2011 reading Lucy, like Paula I look forward to reading your views on what you've read. Here's hoping you find some good novels.
  24. Hey Kat, impressive looking 'To Be Read' pile you have there, hopefully you have more will-power than I would have and stick to your 'read three buy one' plan. I feel I'd be doing an injustice if I didn't try to persuade you to just give up now and go book-crazy in the shops, though.. I kid, I kid.. anyway, best of luck with the reading in 2011, I hope you find some crackers.
  25. Hey Chesil, they really are great aren't they? I've been reading on mine for the best part of the day and in all honesty it's hardly passed my thoughts that I'm reading a book digitally and not flicking through actual pages. As for the cases did you get one that Amazon sell to go with them? I got the red one and I love it; protective but looks good as well. I sort of felt that when it was in its case and all fasted up, it looked somewhat like a diary, haha. I think it's definitely going to be a permanent edition to the items I don't leave the house without. Best of luck for your 2011 reading too, I'm hoping mine is somewhat better than this year.
