  1. If it's better than this year I'll be happy with that. I'm looking forward to next summer already, haha.
  2. Thanks Paula, I'm glad to see you've managed a good total this year; hopefully 2011 will be just as good, eh.
  3. Well as some of you will know, I was lucky to receive an Amazon Kindle for Christmas; a gift I feel will suit me down to the ground. Now, I adore books - the feel of flicking over the pages is second to none in my mind; so at first I was skeptical about the idea of e-readers. However, I had to confess the benefits are extraordinary; the space saved will be brilliant until I'm older and richer and can afford a library in my own place; the idea that I can have such easy access to thousands of titles is enough to make one very excited. Now even before I received it I was downloading books, at first browsing all the free classics that I've actually always wanted to get round to reading; now at last I might. However, today I purchased Lord Sunday from the Kindle Store for just a mere £3.99. The last in The Keys to the Kingdom series, I've been after this for a while. I've been reading all afternoon and I've stuck straight into it with eagerness. I find I can read for hours on the Kindle just like I would a normal book, and it's fantastic. As for the book I'm really enjoying it so far and I'm looking forward to seeing how the series wraps up; hopefully I won't be too disappointed.
  4. Been a terribly long day; at least I'm home and ready to relax now though.

Well anyway now I've finished moaning I just want to wish you all the best with your 2011 reading; I hope you manage to find some crackers, and I look forward to reading your views on what you've read as the year progresses.

  18. I loved 1984 immensely, and I do believe that I'm getting a rather nice copy for Christmas that caught my eye when I was in Waterstones a couple of months ago. It initially caught my attention when we went to see the play - I can't remember where it was - with my English class earlier this year. There was a cast of about five people, and it was in a little underground stage set-up; but it was performed wonderfully. They had a great use of technology with screens up on the walls and everything; I was very impressed. I'm sure you will love it when you get around to reading it; though don't rush The Picture of Dorian Gray; every last word of that novel should be treasured.
  19. I must say Greg my friend, your 2011 reading list is looking fantastic; some great choices on there that I'd recommend to anyone. I enjoyed Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby when we had to study it for AS English Literature last year, and I'll be re-reading it soon enough for my January re-sit. Of course 1984 is wonderful, and a must-read for anyone. I also see you have the first book in the Millennium Trilogy by Stieg Larsson. I read all three of them this year and although they're quite a lot to get into because they haven't been edited, I still feel the trilogy is well worth a read. It's also sad that because of his death before publication, he never got to see the world-wide phenomenon they become. Now as for The Picture of Dorian Gray, you know my thoughts on what is probably my favourite novel of all time..
  20. Time to settle down and get this portfolio done and dusted as quick as possible.

  21. Hey all, pushed aside my reading for the time being, due to revision; fortunately though, there are two books that I have to read for the English exam: The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night-Time by Mark Haddon and The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. The first of these two books I've started and finished over the last two days, and I have to say I've enjoyed it quite a bit; even if it was for study. I feel more confident with the fact that I've refreshed myself with the novel and it's definitely a worthwhile, light read. 4/5. Next up, The Great Gatsby, a book I loved the first time I read it. Despite this, it does take a lot of analyzing, and no doubt I'll enjoy it less if I'm constantly looking for themes, quotes, etc. Ah well, we'll see how it goes when I settle down with it tonight or tomorrow.
  22. Glad it's the holidays.

  23. Just got my first offer for university; it's my worst choice in terms of grades, and it's conditional - but it's a step in the right direction.
