  1. Exam in just under three hours, I'm a bag of nerves.

      Thankks, went okay-ish I guess.

  2. Spent the weekend revising and feel a little more confident than I did before.

  3. Thanks, I aim to please so I'm glad I managed to help you out; let me know if you do read it.
  4. Thanks Vodkafan, I think with all the recommendations of it, it would be ridiculous to let it slip my grasp; I'm going to make it one of my near-future reads I'm sure.
  5. It sounds good - thanks for the recommendation Kidsmum.
  6. Capital FM radio station, who I must say are playing some top songs that are keeping my spirits raised this morning.
  7. I'd recommend A Clockwork Orange as your next read from that list. I mean, there's some brilliant novels in there - as Kylie mentioned, Catch 22 is nothing short of fantastic - but having finished A Clockwork Orange not too long ago, I feel you should give it a shot. It's one of those books I reckon everyone should read at one point or another. Good luck with your reading, you've got some great stuff to get stuck into.
  8. That makes a lot of sense, actually; I imagine it's a lost easier to read with a translation on hand. I did pick it up quite nicely as I went along though, and the book is so fantastically written. Yeah, like I said above, it really is one of those books that I've always thought I should get around to reading. One of my friends is studying it for his English coursework - I'm doing The Picture of Dorian Gray and Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde - and he's really enjoying it. Brave New World Revisited sounds like it could be an excellent companion to Brave New World for the compare and contrast. Perhaps one to look out for when I get around to reading it, then.
  9. Hey Frankie, thanks for the recommendation. I have heard of Nick Hornby, and The Polysyllabic Spree sounds like it could be a good read - or not, in terms of my wishlist. I think I'll still give 84 Charing Cross Road a shot; Kylie seems to love it, and I haven't read any reviews of it before now. As for Inkheart you should really read the sequels. I'll admit they're not as good as the first one - nothing can top the magic of that book, but I think they're still worth reading - the second one is still good, and the third one needs to be read just to tie up the journey. Interesting you should mention that about Robin Hobb, I didn't realise the author was female either.
  10. 1984 is a book I've not actually read, and yet I've seen a production of it and have analysed it inside-out for school. I genuinely enjoyed it as a book, even if I haven't read it cover-to-cover. As for Brave New World I have it on my Kindle ready to be read, so perhaps I'll get to it soon enough. It's one of those books I've always thought I 'should' read.
  11. Have you read Brave New World by Aldous Huxley? I haven't, but it's supposed to be good, heard great things from a classmate.
  12. Thanks! I can understand where you're coming from; the language really distracts from the plot for some people when reading A Clockwork Orange. Thankfully, that wasn't the case for me and it didn't seem to bother me at all. Have you considered finding out what the words mean before reading, so then you can substitute as you go through? I think I found myself doing that without meaning to as I read. It's a shame you couldn't manage to finish the book though, I think it's one everyone should read.
  13. Hey Frankie thanks for the great review of 84 Charing Cross Road. It sounds like it could be a good little read, and the idea of books about books and even bookstores is one that I've found I've enjoyed; for example the idea within Cornelia Funke's Inkheart series. Obviously it didn't blow you away with excitement, so I'm sure there's some much better reads I could look at with this idea, however I think I might keep an eye open for this one after all - can't hurt I guess.
  14. Hey Pixie, fantastic review of Passage - it certainly sounds like an intriguing read. Near-death experiences have always intrigued me, so this book sounds like it could capture my attention quite nicely. I'm adding it to my wishlist, all thanks to your glowing recommendation.
  15. Cheers, I'll let you know how I get on when I get hold of it and give it a read.
  16. Feel ill. How crap that it's always during exams.

  17. Hey Janet, just read your review of The Elephant Keeper, which was great. It does indeed look like it could be a delightful little read. Thank you for letting us know your thoughts on it, for you've encouraged me to add it to my wishlist. I know I shouldn't be adding books to my wishlist with them being so easy to purchase on my Kindle, but it seems I'll allow myself to cave for this one.
  18. Every Avenue. - Tell Me I'm A Wreck. Very inspirational lyrics and video; a very catchy song I'd say.

That's precisely what I thought Kell - it just seemed far too simple to be him really!
  20. I'm sure I heard in the news that Waterstones are cutting stores this year as well; before we know it there will be no book stores left.
  21. Just when I'm feeling down things start to look. Received an invitation from Manchester Met for an interview; seems they enjoyed my creative writing enough to give me a shot after all.

Just being greedy I guess. Still can't wait, though. ;D
  23. Stressed to the point of insanity with revision and a stupid deadline for a coursework draft that was very inconsiderately set at the time of our exams.

  24. Yeah it certainly is quite light and easy to read, perfect for reading alongside my heavy revision books at the moment. Ooh, I've heard of that saga before, refresh my memory on what they're about again? Thanks Frankie, glad you enjoyed it. It was quite difficult to sum up in a review really; was a struggle trying to say what I thought of it, because it can be seen from so many different perspectives. I definitely know that I enjoyed it though; wish I would have read it before now.

Is there on any news on how many we're getting? I remember Giu mentioning on Facebook that there was ten, although the Wikipedia page for the series only says that we're getting another three. Either way, I don't mind, but I know I'd prefer ten episodes; that would be awesome. Oh, does anyone else think that the person they revealed as 'Moriarty' isn't actually him? It doesn't seem likely, but I'm probably wrong.
