  1. I think The King's Speech thoroughly deserves all its nominations and it should sweep the boards quite convincingly. Both Helen Bonham Carter and Colin Firth deserve Best Supporting Actor and Best Actor respectively; they both gave wonderful performances. Inception will pick up awards for Visual Effects and Cinematography and I feel they're deserved as well. All in all mostly expected, and I don't think there will be many shock winners.
  2. Hey Jess welcome to the forum; you're certainly in great company here, for sure. I hope to see you amongst discussion and I'm sure we'll soon manage to broaden the scope on your reading - you can do much better than Dan Brown in all fairness. In any case, welcome to the forum, enjoy.
  3. Gah, you make me want to get out my DVDs, but I must force myself to resist from watching until exams are over. Once Friday has passed, I will be making my way though the series', and others, with gusto. I have the complete box-set of Heroes waiting for me, and seasons one and two of Dexter which I know has a few fans on here. Also got the first episode of The Event to look forward too as well. It's interesting that you don't make much of Gossip Girl Peacefield. I have a couple of friends that enjoy it and I got hold of season one on their recommendation. I haven't rushed to watch it yet, and I don't think I will be doing now.
  4. Hello Graeme, welcome to BCF, I'm sure you'll settle in great here. Don't you worry about recommendations, I can guarantee that before long you'll be struggling to decide which book to get hold of first, as opposed to the elusive search you find yourself presented with now. In any case, I hope to find you amongst discussion, and once again welcome to the friendliest book forum on the web.
  5. I'm pretty sure I heard the word LOST. It's quite simply amazing, and I'm so envious of the fact that you're just starting out and have another five series' left to go. After watching all six and enjoying them immensely, I felt a sense of loss at the fact I would never be able to experience the series in the same way again now I had finished it. Of course, I can re-watch as I have them all on DVD, but that pales in comparison to the experience of watching a wonderful show for the first time. Enjoy. I'm currently watching the world go by out of my bedroom window, trying to keep concentration and struggling.
  6. Watched The Shawshank Redemption for the first time last night - well, early hours of this morning - and I've been missing out; it's such a fantastic film.
  7. Lose My Mind - The Wanted.
  8. She's just a fantastic actor all-round; I haven't seen her act badly in anything. Although saying that, I don't watch many films. Me too, probably be out before we know it nowadays.
  9. Thanks I will watch it soon. As for The King's Speech, I'm with everyone else, was superb. Fantastic, isn't it? I thought the acting was wonderful.
  10. Hey Claire great review of Friends Like These, it sounds like a fantastic book. I think I might add it to my wishlist. (:
  11. Definitely one I'm watching as soon as possible. I just finished watching The King's Speech and thought it was fantastic. The acting was simply wonderful, and I really enjoyed it. Anyone seen this yet? (:
  12. Kylie, that certainly isn't the entirety of The Rime of the Ancient Mariner; we had to study it for English literature last year, and it's quite a long ambiguous read. Worthwhile I thought, though; you should check out the whole text.
  13. Haha I'm sure you won't be the only one. There will be still lots of people that can never warm to the idea of an e-reader.
  14. Haha, it made perfect sense for sure. Oooh, first The Australian Mistress of Books now Kylie The Wise. I'm liking it.
  15. I agree entirely Kylie; I think there will always be people that want to purchase the real thing rather than the digital; I know numerous people that even go as far as to seeing e-readers are 'wrong'. They're set in their ways despite the praises that are sung about them, and they'll always be there to keep bookshops alive. You should adopt that username Kylie.
  16. Can't wait to see the list for this one, may be possibly tempted to have a go. (:
  17. Feel like I'm going to go insane trying to memories 72 studies for the 28th.

Lmfao, don't say things like that. :D

  18. I'll be sure to let you know; might get onto it fairly soon as it looked certainly very intriguing. As for that book you used to read, that sort of thing shouldn't be allowed to be published. I couldn't bear the thought of books becoming obsolete and it all appearing on screens; even if I do like my Kindle, that's not right at all.
  19. Of course I will Paula, thanks. I know the feeling. I mean, I know I won't be buying as many 'real' books now because of lack of space, but I'm sure I'll buy one or two every now and again. (: I read about 50 pages of Over Sea, Under Stone last night - not a lot but it's more than I've had chance to read lately. I'm really enjoyed it so far, it's picking up pace and getting a bit more interesting; hopefully I'll get some time to tear through and move straight onto the next one.
  20. Reading news; not technically read anything - although I am planning on doing after this post - but purchases count as news right? Well, I need some sort of repentance from you guys; because although I said I wouldn't be buying anymore books because of the lack of space and the fact I have a Kindle which should save me this problem, I caved. I swear as I'm wandering WH Smith's, books just jump off the shelves. I got a 'buy one get one half-price' offer on The Lacuna by Barbara Kingsolver, which looks quite interesting, and Hell Gate that looks like you're typical crime and murder novel, written by Linda Fairstein. *hangs head in shame.* I'm going to go read some of Over Sea, Under Stone to try gain some forgiveness. It'll be the first time I've read for my own enjoyment in quite a while actually. (:
  21. It never fails to amaze me how amazing everyone on this forum is. The best community I've ever had the pleasure of being a part of.

You are though. :) Everyone on here are the best. :D x

  22. Hey Chrissy, glad to see your reading is going well this year so far. I noted a couple of pages back that American Gods by Neil Gaiman was on your list of 11 books you were considering for a next read. I don't know if you caught my comments on this novel at the back end of last year, but it was one of my favourite reads of 2010, and I must insist that you push this up list; it really is a fantastic read and I'm sure you'll love it. Anyway, happy reading.
  23. Just finished watching episode fourteen of season six of How I Met Your Mother which is entitled 'Bad News.' It seems like I've finally made it through all the episodes in the current series - apart from the one that aired tonight and won't be online until tomorrow - and I have to say it's a wonderful series. This episode I just watched was one of the most emotional and touching episodes I've ever seen: the acting was truly fantastic.
  24. Hey guys, as you all know the recreational reading has had to be put on hold until the exams are finished, meaning I haven't had much chance to get stuck into Over Sea, Under Stone yet. I'm still only a little way through it and it's frustrating not having the time to read at the minute, seen as though I'm really hoping for a good total books read this year. Ah well I'm sure it'll pick up soon; I have so much good stuff waiting for me on my shelves. Hope everyone's having a good reading year so far.
  25. Meh, couldn't tell you how well I did or not to be honest.
