  1. Thanks! It has been brilliant so far. Haha, you just can't help it... some of the things he comes out with! Read some more on the way into work this morning and I was almost in stitches at Absolutely hilarious.

Thanks, shirley. I'm glad we won yesterday (hurrah!) if only just because it means the series isn't over quite yet. I'm sure I'll have fun, it's always good to get up to Headingley - it's a cracking cricketing stadium.
  3. You too. It definitely does look up my street. Good to hear you're getting the sequel. I hope you enjoy it as much as the first one!
  4. I'm beginning to think so. In all seriousness though, thanks for the recommendations, got plenty to be going on with now!
  5. That's what I've heard. I feel privileged to have so many ahead of me. Funnily enough I was reading it on the train into work this morning and laughed aloud repeatedly while doing so. Got some strange looks from fellow commuters, but I'm sure they would understand if they knew I was reading Pratchett.
  6. I think someone on here suggested I go straight in with The Stand - a few years ago now, probably - too. I can imagine I'll get to it sooner rather than later. Thanks! I've actually read 11.22.63 (completely forgot!) and loved it, but I feel like I need to really tackle his main horror books - after all that's what he's known for I suppose! Cheers for the recommendations - lots to be going on with. Cheers Steve. The Shining has been one of the books I've been leaning towards, although it doesn't sound like I can go far wrong with King judging by the amount of suggestions I've already received.
  7. This one sounds very good Noll, definitely one for the wishlist. On another note, congratulations on 10,000 posts (again). Some achievement.
  8. This is currently my wallpaper at work, but thinking about changing it:
  9. Could well be! I'm glad you enjoyed Sugar and it's interesting that it reminds you of The Perks of Being a Wallflower. I've been meaning to read this for sometime - my girlfriend did a while back and thought it was great. Have you seen the film adaptation with Emma Watson, too? I'd be interested in watching that, I've heard good things.
  10. Finished The Fishermen last night - and thought it was terrific, actually. Moved on this morning to the second DIscworld novel, The Light Fantastic. I can't believe I've only ever read the first in this series, but I hope to rectify it in the coming months - and probably throughout 2016.
  11. Snakeskin by Deerhunter. Taken from their new upcoming new album Fading Frontier - set to be released October 16.
  12. Watching Wawrinka against Young in the fourth round of the US Open, but it's just on... waiting for Murray in all honesty.
  13. Blimey, thanks Laura. I'm kind of leaning towards starting one of Robin Hobb's books (I've heard good things from others too) but you've given me a lot to be going on with there. Looks like I'll have to get making a list. Thanks, Steve.
  14. I think it was just a mood thing, I only managed 10 or so pages. I'll get back to it - can see it being one of those books that takes a little getting into but then is good once you're used to the style and ideas. I've never heard of The Giver (was there a film? The name does ring a bell). Just looking it up though, the memory thing does sound similar to The Chimes.
  15. Quick Google shows it on Amazon UK as part of a short story collection for £5.99. I'm sure it's probably freely available elsewhere as it's so short - so I imagine I'll get around to it at some stage. Haha! It definitely sounds right up my street.

I've been particularly disappointed with the first two - and even more so because I'm going to the game at Headingley on Friday and at this rate it'll be all over by then...
  17. Streaming Scarface's new album Deeply Rooted on Spotify. Pretty great and only through four tracks.
  18. This is an incredible effort and has restored some of my faith in humanity. Although it has, somewhat inevitably, slowed down, the money keeps coming in - both from the public and authors with matching £10k donations. I've done my bit too, and I'm sure Ness is very proud of what he's managed to achieve.
  19. Superb review of The Final Empire Laura. Other than jumping on the A Song of Ice and Fire bandwagon - plus the odd Terry Pratchett book - I've never really dipped into any of the numerous fantasy series' on offer. Perhaps Brandon Sanderson could be a good entry point for me?
  20. Frankie, surely you can't be saying people on here have influenced your reading tastes and purchases over time? Surely not.
  21. Where would you suggest one should start with King? I've read Cell, Blaze and Duma Key - and off the top of my head I think that's it. I've always meant to properly get stuck into more of his books but never bothered. Any thoughts on where I should go next?
  22. Interesting list. Obviously there's some universal books to be expected - Go Set a Watchman and The Girl in the Spider's Web - but it's great to see so many Finnish authors on the list. You're spot on: authors from smaller countries do need and deserve a wider audience.
  23. Oh, wow, I had no idea that Total Recall was based on a (very) short Phillip K Dick story, might have to check this out. Thanks for bringing it to my attention, Anna.
  24. Wasn't getting on well with The Chimes - but will persevere soon - so made a start on another 2015 Man Booker nominee, The Fishermen by Chigozie Obioma. About halfway through after this morning's commute and really enjoying it. Can see why she's being dubbed as the heir to Chinua Achebe's throne.
