    Welcome, jak! Enjoy!
  2. Room by Emma Donoghue Synopsis: To five-year-old-Jack, Room is the world. . . . It's where he was born, it's where he and his Ma eat and sleep and play and learn. At night, his Ma shuts him safely in the wardrobe, where he is meant to be asleep when Old Nick visits. Room is home to Jack, but to Ma it's the prison where she has been held for seven years. Through her fierce love for her son, she has created a life for him in this eleven-by-eleven-foot space. But with Jack's curiosity building alongside her own desperation, she knows that Room cannot contain either much longer. Room is a tale at once shocking, riveting, exhilarating--a story of unconquerable love in harrowing circumstances, and of the diamond-hard bond between a mother and her child Courtesy of amazon.com Rating: 5/5 Thoughts: Wow, what a book! Loved the first half, was hoping for a little more from the second half, but overall it was a great read. I highly recommend it.
  3. I finished reading Room by Emma Donoghue, and The Book Thief by Markus Zusak will mostly likely be my next read.
  4. I've spent most of my day on the couch reading Room. Such a great book!
  5. My goodness! Who on this board wouldn't want to live there?! Taïr, thanks so much for the translation.
  6. frankie, I actually have you to thank for my purchase of The Art of Racing in the Rain. You recommended it to me about two years ago after reading my review of Marley and Me. Hopefully I get around to reading it before another two years passes. Thanks, Ruth, I'm sure I will! Oh, and I loved the movie too, but as always, the book was better. So happy to know you all loved reading the books I purchased. I'm looking forward to reading them even more now! bobblybear, I'm so happy to see that you've decided to read Gone with the Wind. Hope you enjoy as much as I did. I'm 100 pages into Room and enjoying it.
  7. Enjoying my last taste of chocolate before I give it up for Lent.
  8. I agree! Why didn't we do this sooner? Here's me with my Godson Eóghan on the day of his christening.
  9. It was a tad depressing, but I couldn't put the book down. I'd definitely recommend it. I've wanted to read this book forever, yet I never get around to starting it. I put off reading Gone with the Wind so many times because its size scared me. I finally took the plunge and read it two summers ago and now its my all time favorite. It was so captivating that you completely forget you're reading a 1,000 page book. Hope you enjoy whichever one you choose. =) I started Room by Emma Donoghue. I also received a few books I ordered. I got: The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein The Book Thief by Markus Zusak Breakfast at Tiffany's by Truman Capote The Hunger Games Trilogy by Suzanne Collins
  10. Valley of the Dolls by Jacqueline Susann Synopsis: Dolls: red or black; capsules or tablets; washed down with vodka or swallowed straight - for Anne, Neely, and Jennifer, it doesn't matter, as long as the pill bottle is within easy reach. These three women become best friends when they are young and struggling in New York City and then climb to the top of the entertainment industry - only to find that there's no place left to go but down - into the Valley of the Dolls. Rating: 4/5 Thoughts: This was my weekend guilty pleasure. It was enjoyable, funny, and ultimately heartbreaking. I actually felt pretty sad for a bit after finishing it, but I'd still recommend it as a good read.
  11. Thanks, Kylie! No, I've never seen the movie, and I've heard mix reviews, so you'll have to let me know what think after you get around to watching it. frankie, yes, I take all the pictures with my iPhone and then I use the Instagram app to edit how the pic looks. I'm glad you enjoy them!
  12. Bethany, what did you think of Ellis Island by Kate Kerrigan?

    Hello

Welcome to the forum, Tim! Enjoy!
  14. I've seen this book around, but I had no idea it was about Hemingway's first wife. I'll definitely be adding this to my tbr pile. Thanks!
  15. I started Valley of the Dolls this weekend and I'm already half way through. Very addicting! I can't seem to be able to put it down!
  16. Thanks, bobblybear! I usually don't care for seeing the movie after reading the book, but this one I'd like to check out.
  17. Kylie, another bookcase?! I'm so jealous! Anyway, so happy to see you're enjoying The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society. I read it last year and absolutely loved it! I'm about half way through Valley of the Dolls. Hopefully I'll be able to finish it today or tomorrow. I'd really like to start Room by Emma Donoghue this week while I'm off from work. Definitely sounds like it's a book I should be reading during the day instead of my usual routine of reading before bed.
  18. Such a shame she wasted her talent on drugs...RIP Whitney.
