I really like his Womens Murder Club series of books. The first few in the series are:
1st to die
2nd chance
3rd degree
4th of July
I think there are 7 in total so far.
This series is not about Alex Cross, it is based around four female main charcters who solve murder cases and they are not at all gruesome.
But i would recommend reading them in the correct order as you will understand the characters better.

I completely agree Karen. I have often noticed that an author's first book is the one I least enjoy - but I usually give authors at least two chances - unless the first book was absolutely awful.

I have just started Water for Elephants today Madcow, it doesn't sound like my usual type of book but I am going to give it a try.

I'm really enjoying this season! I just can't wait to find out
who the oceanic six are and how did Kate end up with Clare's baby and why is she telling everyone that he is her son? And why Jack is just letting everyone think that Aaron is her baby? What do the people on the boat want Ben for? And what happened to the helicopter if it didn't get back to the boat?
So many questions!!!!
