I love musicals, both film and theatre. My most favorite experience was seeing Elaine Paige in Sunset Blvd in London over 10 years ago. I've also seen and loved (some multiple times) Phantom of the Opera, Miss Saigon, Beauty and the Beast, Sound of Music, Secret Garden, Into the Woods, Rent, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Showboat, Les Miserables and Cats.
As far as movies go, my favorites are:
Seven Brides for Seven Brothers
High Society
Holiday Inn
American in Paris
Singin' in the Rain
There's No Business Like Show Business
Mother Wore Tights
Guys and Dolls
White Christmas
South Pacific
Showboat
On the Town
Oh my, I think I could name many more! Pretty much name anything starring Gene Kelly, Frank Sinatra, Betty Grable, Bing Crosby, Fred Astaire, Donald O'Connor, Mitzi Gaynor, Ann Miller and I'm there. Plus many more I'm forgetting...
They dont make 'em like that any more do they? I love everyone of those and could watch them over and over. I would add "West Side Story" though.

The Book of Lost Things by John Connolly
Blurb
High in his attic bedroom, twelve-year-old David mourns the loss of his mother. He is angry and he is alone, with only the books on his shelf for company. But those books have begun to whisper to him in the darkness and as he takes refuge in the myths and fairytales so beloved of his dead mother he finds that the real world and the fantasy world have begun to meld. The Crooked Man has come, with his mocking smile and his enigmatic words:

Just back for seeing West Side Story at Sadler's Wells with OH and kids - .
- I wanted to join in singing 'Maria' and 'America' I think Helen would have left if I did!. .
That brings back memories of us all seeing "The Sound of Music" film and me starting to sing to all the tunes to your embarrassment
Glad you enjoyed it and that it was a good production.

I discovered a wonderful series [i love series] by Louis L'Amour, the "umbrella name" is The Sacketts. There are 18 books about the Sacketts in all. The first title is Sackett's Land.
A synopsis of the first one is as follows:
This isn't a 'shoot em up' type western, it is a family saga that covers from England to the East Coast of America, out to the Old West. It'll follow different branches of the family at different times, and in the end tie up nicely.
That sounds like a really good read. I too love series, especially family series.

I have finished The Book of Lost Things. I was totally captivated by it and its magic has stayed with me, I keep thinking about it.
Its a very well written book which carries you along easily into a 12 year old boy's "rite of passage" through his fantasy world which is very believable. I was impressed at an adult author being able to capture how a child standing on the threshold of adulthood sees the world he has created in his mind following the death of his mother. Its an adventure story in which David, the 12 year old, faces death and destruction at every turn of the page and it is intriguing how his encounters represent the fairy tales we all know. they were easily identifiable (if you have read them of course).
the author's notes at the end were interesting and enlightening and an absolute must to read.
I loved this book and will look out for other books by John Connolly.
Highly recommended 10/10

That's on my list of books I want to read!!! Will be interested to hear how you find it.

Watched the first one, not sure if i shall continue - its a bit far fetched

I certainly dont read the books I first used to read, which was romantic tosh. I used to believe in falling in love and everything leading to a happy ending lol.
I think my daughter influenced one change in me, it was she who introduced me to Anne Tyler for example and of course she led me on to this site. My taste has become much more eclectic and I will try any genre and any author, except perhaps horror. I am now very much influenced by the reviews of books I read about on here and will often either pick them up at my daughter's or in a local charity shop if I spot them.

The Hard Way is the usual Lee Child Jack Reacher story, but I am enjoying it. I will finish it today sometime, but it is just reaching the climax at this stage and there is a bit of horror which I am not looking forward to. May give me nightmares tonight. Dont know what to read next.

Grilled salmon for us tonight.
No need for sarcasm O's I dont think. This comment should perhaps be on the debating forum. I care just as much as anyone for the underprivileged in the world.

OH cooked my dinner tonight because I was suffering. He did a lovely cottage pie with mashed sweet potato on top and servedit with gravy and frozen peas. Delicious. I dont mind if he does it again.
I noticed in Sainsbury's last week that their onions (ordinary white ones) came from NEW ZEALAND!! So I sent for the manager and asked him to explain, when we are in the middle of the Sussex farming country why we cant have ENGLISH onions. I got a very convoluted explanation which told me that basically they cant get the supplies they need to satisfy consumer need from English/British suppliers, blah blah blah. The next day we went into our local town, where there is a small Sainsbury's and they had ENGLISH onions. It beggars belief doesnt it? I have decided to write to the head office about it now.

I finished Emma yesterday and started on The Hard Way by Lee Child yesterday evening.
I thoroughly enjoyed Emma and could hardly put it down at times. Would recommend it to everyone.

Well I have to say that I really enjoyed this book even more than Pride and Prejudice, which is my favourite. I see Mr Knightly as another Darcy. Emma does redeem herself I agree and I am glad she found happiness in the end. The Eltons are totally despicable people, totally unlikeable.
