  1. It is commonly believed that comedians are sad people Prospero I am sure that is not the case with you:D
  2. Well I watched the "repeat" of The Apprentice last night. That Nicholas was a bit wet wasnt he and probably the right one to go. I was not impressed with the boys' project manager (cant remember name). The girls did not impress at all, I think there is going to be a lot of in-fighting on both sides. I think I know who is going to be the winner, but I didnt catch his name last night. He did hit all the right stops for me considering the way things worked out. No I am not going to reveal my selection, we will just wait and see.
  3. Its repeated tonight at 10.45 on BBC1 I didnt watch, but OH did. I was never keen on Tony Hancock I am afraid
  4. :blush:JS&MN - What is that please? Sorry for my ignorance
  5. Yummy Mummy what a silly phrase, what on earth does it mean:blush: Its enough to put me off reading a book described as such. Yuk
  6. You do make me laugh Prospero. Not that I dont agree with you!!
  7. I am not really cutting my nose off PP:lol:. Its easy to get to the farm shop, I have just been lazy and doing it all in the supermarket. As for Good Housekeeping, the subscription was a gift, so I will just not renew it, but I will write to them and tell them why, so I think that will achieve something wont it? BTW where have your tulips gone, I loved them:blush:
  8. Another thing which never gets mentioned is the way Magazines are sold in plastic wrappers and also weekend newspapers. We stopped have the weekend Times because of this because it contains a lot of rubbish which we chuck in the "paper" recycling bin. Today I received my Good Housekeeping mag which also arrives plastic wrapped containing loads of rubbish which all went in said bin, then when you actually open the mag, there is more inside:motz: So I am going to cancel my subscription to GH. I am fed up with supermarket packaging especially veg and fruit. I am going back to my farm shop this weekend and get "British" broccoli and potatoes, all loose.
  9. Ditto Janet, we come from the same mould obviously
  10. I loved Secret love scene by Doris Day in Calamity Jane. I am word perfect at singing it too lol:lol:
  11. I didnt watch it, but will watch the repeat next Saturday. Just for interest, Nicholas comes from down this way (South Coast) and is the son of the solicitor I used for various things. I never ever met him though. Shame he got knocked out, as it would have been a focus of interest for us
  12. Hello and welcome Jude. I am sure you will enjoy yourself on here. Its pretty easy to find your way about and we are a very forgiving crowd anyway.
  13. Have got a bit behind with this blog, but here goes. I loved P&P as I believe I have said elsewhere. This is the third time I have read it and I enjoyed it more than at any other time, cant think why!! I then moved on to The Pain of Winning by David Fraser which was a story set in the latter part of the 2nd World War and focussed on a young Captain first of all in Holland and it follows his movements and his meteoric rise in the ranks for various reasons. He gets to Italy and finally Austria. On the way at one stage he is captured by the Germans but escapes and is sheltered by the German widow of an Italian partisan, with whom he falls in love. His story is interspersed with what is happening to her and her young son, which isnt pleasant. With peace on the horizon he manages to track her down with dreams of a new life with her, but it doesnt quite work out the way he hoped. One thing I found very disturbing about this story was description of what happened to the "white" Russians and Poles (from the part of Poland commandeered by the Soviets) and that our army had to just hand them over knowing they would be murdered by the Red Army. The instruction came down from high up following the meeting of Roosevelt, Churchill and Stalin at Yalta. The way events unfolded in this book were horrific to read about. Now I am reading Elizabeth George's A Traitor to Memory, which I am finding an enthralling read. A very mysterious tale written in an intriguing way.
  14. I have just watched an item on BBC1 10o'clock news about the amount of waste plastic being washed up on the beaches of this beautiful atoll in the Pacific Ocean. I watched in horror as a man slowly pulled a piece of green plastic hook from the beak of an albatross chick. It turned out to be the remains of a net with a green hook that had probably held fruit. And it was preventing the chick from eating. They reported that every albatross on these beaches has some plastic in their innards. They also showed what was collected in the space of 30 minutes it was unbelievable. There is another report tomorrow evening at the same time - if you care about this planet watch it and reduce the amount of plastic you use and that which you do use, dispose of it responsibly please. I felt ashamed as I watched, I really did.
  15. Elizabeth George, just reading one of hers for the first time. Her plot and characters have lots of depth and she weaves the story in all sorts of ways to keep you guessing. The characters seem like real people too. I shall be sorry when I finish this book
  16. From the description of the first "Mr Darcy takes a Wife", it would not suit me at all and I think JA would turn in her grave at the thought. The second "Mr Darcy Presents his Bride", seems much more in keeping with JA genre. However I am not sure that I really want to actually read these sequels. I read a sequel to Gone with the Wind and it was awful. another though I have is that JA would not be able to write a sequel to P&P that involved descriptions of married bliss, as surely she did not have the experience required and in her day, other "ladies" didnt discuss what went on in the bedroom:mrgreen: I think perhaps I will stick to my imagination Kyle. Thanks for the interesting discussion though.
  17. I wish Jane Austen had written a sequel to P& P. I would love to know what happened to her and Darcy and also to Lydia and Wickham, and Charlotte and Mr Collins. Oh I could go on and on. Perhaps I should write it?
  18. After some serious thinking about it I have decided on the following The Thorn Birds by Colleen McCullough Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen in no particular order
  19. The eyes have lost their gleam I am afraid. He just looked like any other 62 year old man with grey hair. Totally nondescript.
  20. I meant to post this on Tuesday, but forgot. Did anyone see David Essex on The One Show, BBC1 Monday (this week)? I didnt recognise him, he has not aged well. Only his voice convinced us that it was him!!
  21. Bringing to your notice that this is on on Easter Sunday BBC, not sure 1 or 2, and there is or was talk of a series in the near future. Unfortunately the death of Minghella the director might delay or put those plans in jeopardy. I am really looking forward to seeing it on Sunday. HandD please take note!!!
  22. Which version do you like Angel?
  23. I just like freebies I guess:smile2:
  24. I am sorry Kylie, I obvously misunderstood you and I did apologise in advance in case you felt I insulted you. (olive branch held out). I am really pleased that you love Jane Austen so much and I will read your review, promise.
