  1. You obviously mean Simon. I picked him out 2 weeks ago, fancy you and I picking the same one, must be something in our blood. I think the whole bunch of girls is rubbish, perhaps the only exception is the one I think is called Karen. who wanted to do the English menu. I agree with her. Pub meals? Definitely should be English I think, sure to be a winner.
  2. Welcome to the fold David, you will get plenty of advice and information here, as well as plenty of laughs.
  3. Finished Bad Luck and Trouble by Lee Child. I enjoyed it very much, that is why I finished it so quickly. I will do a review when I get my head around it. Trying to decide between "The Historian" and the next Jane Austen one to read next.
  4. You can look up other covers to see if yours is there though cant you? Or you can scan yours and upload it.
  5. Thank youKK that has been baffling me too:blush:
  6. We are a couple of softies arent we?
  7. I have just counted the ones I have read from that list and its 13. Long way to go!!
  8. Started Bad Luck and Trouble by Lee Child and am already a third of the way through. Looks like the usual Jack Reacher type story.
  9. I like No.10. I like quiet, there is not enough of it around these days.
  10. I knew someone would ask:blush: Too long ago for me to remember prospero. I have just remembered that I also cried at Marley and Me, but that wasnt fiction.
  11. Plain Truth
  12. There are biographies and there are biographies Nici!! Try John Peel's Margrave of the Marshes which had to be finished by his wife because he died just before he finished it.
  13. I wont live long enough to read that lot!!!
  14. I have a mere 37 on my TBR pile, but there are loads on my list of want to reads which I havent acquired yet. I feel I must get my TBR pile way down first.
  15. Good for you Gyre and I am glad you enjoyed it. It is a great read
  16. Some of these names you have all mentioned have had me laughing out loud. I particularly liked "Heidi Ho" Kell - brilliant.
  17. Jilly Cooper is my bete noir!!! I wont touch any of hers now. I have nibbled at horror. I once read a James Herbert one about a cottage in a wood and it scared me to death, so I avoid him. I have always avoided Stephen King, but seen some of the films made from his books, so I do intend to try him at some time in the future.
  18. I have to agree with Prospero about Scarlett O'Hara, what a feisty woman she was. ( I like to think I am a bit like that, well when I was young more than now probably:lol:) BUT I have to take a stand on Mr Darcy's behalf, Colin Firth is absolutely my no.1 man in his version. Unfortunately I never really took to Clark Gable ever, but he was good as Rhett Butler I will give him that.
  19. I agree LR. Total bad judgement on Alan Sugar's part I think. I dont know about anyone else, but I think the women who go on this show have to work harder to prove themselves than the men. I think AS is a bit of a misogynist (eek is that the right word!!) woman hater. But this lot of women are playing into his hands, my God what a shower they are!!! I am still standing by the young man I have picked out as the winner.
  20. Just added my LT name to my profile
  21. I havent received my free copy yet
  22. I like the sound of that book thanks for the review
  23. Did anyone see what Kevin Spacey has been saying in the Times about the BBC and these Andrew Lloyd Webber shows?? Kevin Spacey today accused the BBC of "crossing the line" by unfairly promoting West End musicals at the expense of other theatre productions with its talent show programmes. The Hollywood star and Old Vic artistic director said that series such as Any Dream Will Do and I'd Do Anything constitute "a 13-week promotion for a musical". In an interview with BBC Radio 4's Today programme, Spacey added: "You are not a commercial broadcaster, and I thought that was crossing the line. Where's our 13-week programme? I have spoken to your chairman but he has yet to get back to me." I have to say I agree.
  24. Just started Plain Truth by Jodi Picoult. Good start so far.
  25. I have finished "A Traitor to Memory" and found it a very intriguing read. I couldnt figure out where it was going at first. The style of writing with the investigation into the murders interspersed with the story of the musician's problem with his playing. The first chapter stood completely on its own and its relevance to the story did not come out until 3/4's of the way through. The characters were very well rounded and each one had their own story to play out which added to the interest because you were continually thinking where is this going, or why is this happening. In the end, my solution to one situation proved to be right (or nearly), but the actually end almost fizzled out and then there was one final dramatic explosion (and that is the only word for it, but dont take me literally) on almost the last page. I was left thinking "well I am blowed" 10 out 10. A really good dramatic read and very well written. Now how do I follow that!!!
