I checked my book (the second one) after reading your review, and it has 81 chapters (82 with the prologue) in 400 pages, so it appears his chapters are getting shorter! The paperback edition I want doesn't come out until near the end of the year, so it'll be a while before I get to read it.

F Scott Fitzgerald's Great Gatsby home on sale for $3.8m
Kylie replied to chesilbeach's topic in Book News
It's so purdy. Totally my kind of house. It's also cheap as chips by Australian standards (although still way out of my price range). -
I've merged the new and existing threads. Definitely hope to re-read this one day.

I'm going to try so hard to be part of the next read-a-thon! I've already put it in my calendar and everything, so hopefully I won't get distracted with other stuff or book work for that weekend.

Great review! I'm glad it picked up in the end. I'll be sure to keep your review in mind when I get around to reading it. If I keep my expectations low, I surely won't be disappointed (that's pretty much my philosophy in life, and it rarely disappoints). I couldn't help but read the bits in spoilers, but I'm glad I did because it gives me a better idea of what to expect. It's interesting that Kasasian (or any author, really) would choose to start using different writing techniques three books into a series. It's quite a risk to take, one would think! It's particularly risky to have (this relates to Steve's spoiler): Sorry to hear that it disappointed you, but thanks for going 'first' and telling us what to expect. I'm still looking forward to reading it!

Uh oh. Off to read your review...

Indeed! Afterwards I found out that they're planning to make a third Sister Act movie. Not sure how I feel about that. For starters, if Whoopi isn't in it (there's no word yet) then it's not worth bothering with. I watched Jurassic Park last night. I never get sick of it. I might be going to see Jurassic World this weekend. Can't wait!!

Ah, so discrimination against all non-UK members then? Hmph.

I'm sorry to hear about your missing book tokens but good on Claire for her good timing with the card!
-
Hi Hayley! What have you been reading lately?

The Count of Monte Cristo is one of my favourite books. I haven't read The Three Musketeers yet, but I daresay if you liked this, you'll love TCoMC! It's absolutely brilliant, and despite it's massive size, it zips along pretty quickly. Great review! I really need to bump this up my TBR pile. I don't think I've read a bad thing about it.

Sorry to hear you've been having a tough time. I hope things are picking up for you. If it makes you feel any better, I'm not doing particularly well with my goal to reduce my TBR pile by 1 either. But I'm still holding out hope! Totally agree with all of this. The banter is fab. I keep laughing out loud, and I rarely do that with funny books! Great review.

Welcome to the forum. I look forward to reading your thoughts on the books you read. Happy reading!

I've only read The First Person & Other Stories, and I wasn't impressed at all. According to Goodreads, I rated it 3 stars, but that surprises me. I remember absolutely nothing about it three years later (except that I didn't like it). I don't plan on giving her another chance. Good for you! I recently bought a small pile of books, so now I have to be good again for a while.

Cool! Great review. I've been a bit curious about this for a while because I've read lots of positive reviews. Is Caitlin Moran known in the UK for something other than writing (like, is she a comedian or something?)
-
Ooh, cool. How's it going? I didn't realise it was already out. I'm still reading the second one.

Movies You're Looking Forward to in 2015
Kylie replied to Karsa Orlong's topic in Music / TV / Films
First look at The Martian. I'm not sure if it will be part of the actual movie, or whether it's just for publicity purposes, but either way, it looks good! -
As you know, I tagged you on Facebook in a photo that Keiko took with her band members on the way to the GG reunion in Texas. Afterwards I thought perhaps you also don't care to see things like that? Please let me know if that's case, and I'll stop doing it! So apparently the 'reunion panel' has taken place in Texas. It looks like most of the cast turned up, except Melissa McCarthy (she's probably busy jetsetting around the world doing interviews for her movies—I saw an interview done with her in Australia the other day, and a few days later I saw her on a UK show!) Even Jess turned up! (Excuse me for switching between real names and character names. ) I wasn't sure he would because Rory is his ex and all (that is, in real life they are exes!) I was also surprised that Logan and Jared turned up! I guess because they're bigger stars now. Especially Jared (in Supernatural). I think it shows how much the show means to them that they all turned up. Sadly, it appears as though no movie or reunion show is in the works 'yet', but Amy Sherman-Palladino promised that if it's ever done, she'll make sure it's done properly. The interview panel apparently lasted for 90 minutes. I guess a video will go up on YouTube at some stage. I can't wait to watch it! I would have given absolutely anything to be there. Imagine seeing them all in real life?! Apparently Hep Alien also reunited and did a set together! Here are a few articles about it, and I'll probably post more. This one talks a lot about Lorelai and Rory, and Rory's love interests. Interestingly, Dean actually preferred Jess for Rory: 'I was Team Jess — he was sexy and cool'. Can you imagine DEAN actually saying that about JESS? Hahaha! Logan was also 'Team Jess', but Jess thought Rory should have been with Dean. This article talks about where the actors all imagined that their characters would be today. And be sure to check out the gallery of photos at the bottom of the article! And here's 11 things we learned. Lastly, check out this photo of Rory's men! She was such a lucky gal. Obviously beards are in fashion right now. And Logan doesn't look as though he's aged a day!

And if that doesn't work for some reason, try Poppy's work-around here (as far as I know, only Poppy and I have trouble posting YouTube links by just pasting the address—discrimination against antipodeans, I think ).

Ah, OK, so it's not just me! It's a strange thing to happen, isn't it? Oh well. I'll get them all catalogued eventually! I hope you enjoy all of those lovely new books!

Great haul! I haven't heard of that Susan Hill book before, but anything she writes is automatically on my wishlist because I loved The Woman in Black so much. That Penguin boxset looks interesting! I noticed there's a title called Lizzie Borden. I found out about her late last year, around the time I read The Devil in the White City by Erik Larson. I can't remember if she was mentioned in the book (it's about a serial killer in Chicago), or if my further research after reading the book brought up her name, but it's certainly an interesting story. A couple of movies/TV adaptations have been made about her life, including an episode of The Twilight Zone that's based on her story (but it uses different names, I think).

Ooh, I love the ending of Thelma and Louise. I wouldn't change it for anything! I love those crazy gals.
-
I'm glad you're back, Muggles. I've been behind in reading everyone's threads, so I only just saw your post about your absence. Of course you fit in here! I think perhaps we need to clone Jasper Fforde so he can get on with writing all of the books he needs to. I really need to bump the Last Dragonslayer books up my TBR pile. They sound great!
-
Indeed! I love getting absorbed in a TV show. Thanks Sousa. I've so far managed to avoid spoilers, which is pretty amazing, especially since I follow the Facebook page and everything!

I hope you're feeling better soon. Yay for new books!
