  1. Abby shared the most awesome news ever today...Gilmore Girls is returning to our screens!! Here's an article about it. Better still, Amy Sherman-Palladino will be writing it! So I think we'll finally get to hear those four words that were supposed to be the final four words spoken on the show!! Apparently there will be four 90-minute episodes. I'm beyond excited! This is the best news EVER. x infinity. Speaking of those final four words, in the ATX panel video I posted last month, Lauren Graham said she didn't want to know what the four words were (to paraphrase) 'unless I'm the one speaking them or they're being said to me'. I thought that was a lovely thing to say. I think it shows that she still cares a lot about the show and her character. The article I linked to above assumes that Melissa McCarthy won't be making an appearance on the show because she's so famous now. She didn't attend the ATX panel, but I was hoping that was because there was something she couldn't get out of. I really hope she'll make an appearance! She really doesn't seem like the kind of celebrity who would think something like that would be 'beneath' her.
  2. The Walking Dead spoilers: Just watched the newest episode of The Big Bang Theory. Solid episode.
  3. I went to the movies to see The Witches when it came out. According to IMDB, that was in 1990, so I was 8. The movie wouldn't be scary to kids today (or probably back then, for that matter), but I was a little 'soft', so it was too scary for me. Mum had to take me outside and we waited while my brother watched the end of it. I don't remember having a particular problem with the witches when I first read the book though. My imagination mustn't have been vivid enough. And Kay, I can't believe I didn't notice Voldy's absence! He surely deserves a place on the list. Oh, and those horrid dementors, too. I started reading It last Halloween but couldn't quite get into it (my fault, not the book's). But even a year later, what little I've read of it is quite clear in my mind, so it won't be difficult to pick up from where I left off. I'd try again this Halloween, but I'm currently absorbed in reading a book about a real-life monster, Ted Bundy, which already has me looking over my shoulder a bit. I'll need a bit of light reading next, I think!
  4. I haven't watched the new episodes of Supernatural yet, but I will soon! I watched the latest ep of How To Get Away with Murder yesterday, Noll. So glad to find another fan. I just watched the latest episode of The Walking Dead. I don't use Internet slang very much, but O.M.G. I thought the first episode of the new season was a cracker, but the second episode...! I love to watch Talking Dead immediately afterwards, which has cast/crew and famous fans sitting around talking about the show. It's great because I always feel like I need a 'debrief' afterwards. Glad I wasn't the only one shouting at my TV in shock tonight. Can't remember if I've mentioned this here, but I recently discovered The Last Man on Earth. It's a brilliant little post-apocalyptic comedy. Does anyone else watch it?
  5. Oh yes indeedy, it's very compelling! It's quite the page-turner, isn't it? The pages are just flying by and it's difficult to tear myself away from it (so I can go back to reading about pregnant teenagers for work...ho hum ). I can't wait until my job is over so I can get back to reading it properly. I've taken a couple of No-Doz pills because I need to stay awake all night to work, but it means I'll likely be awake all day tomorrow as well (there's no darn off-switch!), so I should have plenty of time to read. I'm tempted to ask how many of my recommendations you've read this year, but I wouldn't be so cheeky...oh, wait.
  6. I found this list (with cute pictures!) showing monsters in literature from the least to the most scary. What do you all think? Do you agree with this order? How would you rate them? Warning: For those who are scared of clowns, the link opens up to a picture of Pennywise. Just shut your eyes and scroll down quickly.
  7. Already more than 100 pages into The Stranger Beside Me. Why does my mojo increase drastically when I'm really busy and should be doing nothing but working? I guess reading is a form of procrastination.
  8. I've started reading The Stranger Beside Me by Ann Rule (this will make a certain Frankie happy, I think!) I keep picking up books from my TBR pile on a whim and then realising that they're on my priority reading list anyway. Good stuff.
  9. Your cabin is gorgeous, Peacefield. It looks like something out of a movie/TV show. That's great, Brian! How lovely of your partner to arrange a surprise trip for you. In a little over a week I'll be going to New Zealand for a few weeks with my mum. We've never been before. Very excited!
  10. Finished Library of Souls. Great book.
  11. Quite hot here over the past couple of days. Summer seems to have come early this year.
  12. Happy to see so many fans of this book. I remember having quite a difficult time getting into it, but I thoroughly loved it by the end. FFTMC is the only Hardy I've read to date, but I definitely plan to read more one day.
  13. Where are you up to in Dexter? Season 6 already? If so, I've fallen way behind!
  14. I picked up my book, Library of Souls, to read just a few pages. 100+ pages later...
  15. One of my fave books. Perfect for Halloween! Ouch! Glad she's not my mother.
  16. Thanks for your comments on Stoner. Intriguing!
  17. Glad you're having a good time seeing all of those speakers. I would have loved to have seen David Crystal!
  18. I read The Day of the Locust back in 2008 (according to good ol' Goodreads ). I don't remember a great deal about it, although some bits have stayed with me. I think it was a little weird. I rated it three stars and didn't keep the book, although I would consider reading Miss Lonelyhearts in the future. Not much help, am I?
  19. I stalled around book 9, I think. I'm planning to take the ebooks on holiday with me soon, so hopefully I'll finally get through them!
  20. The monster stood not a tongue’s length away, eyes fixed on our throats, shriveled brain crowded with fantasies of murder. Library of Souls by Ransom Riggs
  21. I'm mostly a book hoarder, but I get rid of books I haven't enjoyed or likely won't read again. I donate some books to charity, give others to friends and family, and try to sell some online or to secondhand bookstores (like Emelee, I'm not made of money!) I also buy some books from charity. I usually go to a big annual book fair that supports my favourite charity, Lifeline (mental health services). All proceeds go to the charity. I usually spend several hundred dollars when I go there, so they're well supported by me.
  22. Welcome back, Gaia. Glad to see you got lots of reading done and bought some lovely new books.
  23. Sounds good! Hopefully your re-read will give me the kick I need to read the next book I'm up to in the series.
  24. I've been reading Library of Souls. It's going very well.
  25. First episode of the new season of The Walking Dead. Woohoo! Awesome stuff.
