  1. Pfft! OK, if that's the story you want to tell...
  2. I haven't seen it, Ben, but it's on my 'to watch' list. I'm a little over halfway through the first season of Aquarius.
  3. I checked my log because I was sure I could blame you for making me buy the highest number of books in 2010, but it turns out that was only my third 'worst' year. I bought more books in 2011 and 2012, which obviously means that when you visited me in 2010 you started me off on a huge book-buying spree that I was only able to start getting under control in 2013.
  4. Totally understand about the cover. Hopefully you can find one without the movie cover! I've read the book, and I usually prefer to read the book before seeing the movie, but I couldn't say in this case whether you must read the book first. I don't think it would matter too much either way.
  5. I can vouch for the tenant! She's pretty damn awesome. Yay! Congratulations!
  6. Hi Andrea! I've been a couple of months behind on everyone's threads but finally caught up a day or two ago. I'm already planning to be the production/stage manager for a production at the same time next year (I'm happy to have a year off to be a hermit again ). N is going to direct The 39 Steps, so I'll assist. It's going to be much more challenging because there's a large number of props and the timing has to be perfect. Very excited to do it though. I'm hoping to perhaps try my hand at directing one day, but not for a couple of years. Still trying to work out what I'd like to do. I'd love to do a Jeeves and Wooster comedy, or I'd like to adapt a few episodes of The Twilight Zone for the stage. Not sure if the theatre group would go for that; they've never done a series of shorts before. Are you planning on keeping your copy, Chaliepud? Maybe we could swap them over after we're done reading if you wanted to. I'd be happy to pay postage (and extra to cover the paperback to hardback expense). Just thinking out loud; no pressure.
  7. I decided to watch just one episode of Dexter. Now I'm onto my fourth episode—it's getting too good to stop watching now.
  8. So technically you can get your TBR pile back under 800 by the time your new books arrive, right? You're so brave keeping track of the amount of money you spend on books. It'd be too depressing for me to do that...and it wouldn't curb my book buying, so what's the point?!
  9. Bought Ransom Riggs' The Library of Souls today. Squeeeeee! Unfortunately my local store only ordered it in paperback, and I really wanted the hardback (unusually, for me) to match my editions of the first two books. I nearly passed on it but I knew I'd have to wait ages for them to order it in, so I went ahead and got the paperback. Slightly disappointed, but oh well. And I shouldn't really complain because the book cost me nothing because I had a gift voucher.
  10. I can't wait either, James. Hoping to see it shortly after its release. It looks great!
  11. I just picked up my copy of The Library of Souls, Chaliepud! I went in this morning but I guess I was too keen because I beat the delivery person, so I had them set one aside for me and picked it up this evening. Going to start it shortly.
  12. Aw, that's lovely! How nice of your relatives to jump in and help you.
  13. Cool! So I imagine you'll be making frequent trips to the garbage area? I'm so excited for you. I hope the move goes smoothly. How are you going to move your stuff? Will someone help you?

Thanks Ben. I'd forgotten about Dexter's English friend in this season. <sigh> I really don't like her!

I haven't watched Six Feet Under (apart from one or two random episodes), but I plan to watch it all the way through one day. Michael C Hall is a big drawcard. I watch an excellent show called Masters of Sex, which is a true story of a doctor and his assistant who conducted groundbreaking and controversial sex studies in the 60s. Anyway, you can tell when watching the opening credits that they were made by the same people who did the Dexter credits. They're just as awesome (and given what the show's about, they're a little bit naughty ). You can see them on YouTube if you're interested (I'd better not post the link here!) I must say that I like Doakes a lot, even if he's mean to my Dexter. Oh, I forgot to mention Dade City! When it was first mentioned on the show, I thought 'Hmm, now what was Sari telling me about Dade City?' And then I saw Headmaster Charleston. I loved when Deb put her foot in it with Lundy after tripping over his briefcase and mouthing off. It's too hard to quote her directly because of her potty mouth.

It's weird how I can remember some parts of the plot of season 2 quite clearly, but can't remember other parts at all. And I keep getting the order of events completely messed up. I remember the Bay Harbor Butcher storyline well enough (upcoming spoiler relates to the first episode of season 2): but I thought it came much later in the series! The same thing with Lundy. I thought he'd appear in another couple of seasons. And I can remember something important about Lundy's storyline, but I think there's something else quite important that I'm forgetting. I'm so confused! I should stop trying to think about it. And I had completely forgotten about the Haitian woman who comes in as LaGuerta's boss. OK, I have some questions about the flashbacks we've seen so far of when Harry found Dexter. Occasionally I've only been half paying attention, so I'm not sure if I've missed something...
  17. Good to know! I keep saying The Name of the Wind around and have heard great things about it, but I think I'll hold off for now.
  18. He makes Doakes look like a puny kid!
  19. I finished Lois Lowry's Anastasia Has the Answers and have started on the last unread Anastasia book I have: Anastasia's Chosen Career. I also picked up (finally!) Darkly Dreaming Dexter by Jeff Lindsay.
  20. I watched the new episode of The Big Bang Theory - the first episode of season 9. So happy it's back! Now halfway through the second episode of season 2 of Dexter.

I love it when Dexter looks at the camera too. I love, love, love the opening credits for Dexter. They're so well done, I think, and I love that it ends with Dexter leaving his apartment and he sort of looks slyly at the camera and gives a little smile. I have a huge crush on Michael C Hall. Re your second spoiler: I also loved the scene where Deb had dinner with Doakes's family. She's so funny! But I can't believe you have a crush on Doakes! He's soooo mean to Dexter! I like their interactions though, when Doakes says something mean to Dexter and then Dexter responds. I also loved how, in one early episode, Dexter pointed out how strange it was that, in a building full of cops, Doakes is the only one who thinks Dexter is weird. I just saw on the other thread that you've finished the first episode. Only I read it as 'final' episode and I was, like, 'What?! She's already finished the whole season?!' I'm glad you've already started because it means I don't have to wait any longer for you.

Phew! Had a binge session and watched 7 episodes in one go. I've now caught up to you, Sari. I'll wait until you get season 2 before I start mine. I'm pretty sure I hadn't seen most of the second half of season 1, but I could be wrong. A lot of it was unfamiliar to me, although I knew the basic plot.
  23. Aw, shame about Guernsey. We shouldn't have hyped it up so much for you. I think the type of novel is called epistolary (yes, that's it—I had to look it up to make sure I got the spelling right!) Great review of Station Eleven. I've seen it mentioned around here a bit but didn't know much about it. You've told me just enough to make me add it to my wish list.
  24. She'd definitely right in with us, James. If you don't mind sharing the forum with her, tell her she'd be welcome. (Personally, I've never encouraged my 'real-life' reader friends to join this forum. I think of it as MINE and don't want to share. )
  25. I must admit that this is why I gave up on the series. I think I got to book 6 before I couldn't be bothered anymore. They were OK but too samey! Lots of new books, I see! Lucky you.
