    hello

    Hi and welcome

  4. Hi and welcome
  5. Oh - all of that sounds yum! I love the pizza express soho pizza which comes covered in rocket salad.
  6. I agree, Widower is very well written, the prose is very good, so it was a little disappointing not to warm to it more. Maybe I was a bit hasty in giving up, however I don't think I'll pick it up again. The Triffids is great. I'm only 50 pages in, but now I've finished HP I intend to get stuck in
  7. I really enjoyed dead famous, a great whodunnit as well as a great satire.
  8. I actually wish I had read them in order from the beginning when they came out now. Having said that I did try the first one and couldn't get on with it, and thought bah, it's all hype. The OH got me into the films. The first one I really enjoyed was Azkaban, then we both read book 6 last year (neither of us having read any) and really enjoyed it.
  9. Finished Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows last night. Wonderful stuff. My comments are on the Deathly Hallows thread
  10. I finished this last night. Utterly brilliant. I loved the bit was when Harry, Ron and Hermione had to get through the dementors when they left the castle but couldn't produce their patronuses because they were so devastated by Fred's death, and then Luna, Seamus and Deane came and produced theirs, lifting Harry enough to produce his. I welled up a little at that point. I love Luna, she's one of my favourite characters. I loved the painting she had on her ceiling. And I was so pleased about Snape. I was hoping he would come good in the end, I just couldn't understand how it was going to happen. I was sorry not to see Umbridge get her come-uppance though. Fantastic finish. What a brilliantly plotted series. I'm so glad I got into these books. I've only read the last two. Better go back and read the others now
  11. Oh good. I really must read these soon, they've been on my shelf for an age!
  12. Ooh a nice surprise then SG We are having Quesadilla thingies tonight, old el paso kit. We've never had them before, chicken, cheese and veggies in a giant tortilla sandwich with salad. Hopefully it'll be nice.
  13. I've not read any but I have The Shape of Snakes and Acid Row on the shelf.
  14. I'm sure you'll get lots of suggestions. I have been told that if you like Harry Potter you'll probably like Ender's Game, written before Harry Potter, but with some similarities. Don't know who it's by, have a look on Amazon.
  15. Harry Potter was SO exciting last night I couldn't sleep aftewards I can't wait to finish it
  16. This is in my amazon shopping basket. It will probably make it to my birthday or Christmas list. I've not read any Alan Bennet before, but this looks like a good little starter kit
  17. Every night before I go to bed (unless I'm extraordinarily tired) and I've started reading a second book in my lunch breaks for 20 mins a day. Hopefully that will help bring the TBR down.

  19. Hi and welcome
  20. Welcome on board. Nice to meet you
  21. I'd like to read this. I read a Highsmith many years ago - A Suspension of mercy and loved it. I have This Sweet Sickness on my shelf which I intend to read soon.
  22. Bah I was looking forward to that I enjoyed the book (although it was the first one I read)
  23. Well if the first chapter's anything to go by, it's terrific!
  24. Gave up on How to talk to a Widower. There is only so much self pitying whining I can stomach. I didn't like any of the characters so I gave up after page 52. Started The Day of the Triffids by John Wyndham today: a much better prospect.
  25. Finished Bridget Jones 2 pleasantly surprised. Wasn't expecting to enjoy it but it's actually quite well written. 7/10 Started reading How to talk to a widower by Jonathon Tropper. On page 52 and really not enjoying it. I'm likely to give up. Utterly utterly engrossed in HP and Deathly Hallows. 2/3 through it
