  1. You naughty lot!!
  2. Word for word. If I accidentally skim a bit I have to re-read the paragraph, even if I know I missed nothing of interest, like just a three word phrase or something. It's like an OCD thing
  3. Animal Farm is the only one I can remember (more of a novella really) but I;m sure there must be others.
  4. Happy Birthday. Hope you have a lovely day :)

  5. I'm enjoying it so far. It's quite creepy already.
  6. Hi and welcome
  7. I have mixed feelings too. I don't like the main character much (Miss Price) but I think the recreated original characters are great. I love Mrs Bennett and Mr Bingley. It's a shame Elizabeth Bennett isn't in it though. I should add I only caught the tail end of it.)
  8. I'm struggling with Entertaining Angels I'm on page 37 and so far its not catching my interest, and I'm not enjoying the writing style either. More comments on the reading circle thread. I'm not sure if I'll stick it out - I may give it to page 50 and see if it picks up. Started Eleven Terrible Months last night.
  9. Well I am sorry to say I am not really enjoying this book. There is something about the writing style that I am struggling with. I don't like the way the viewpoint keeps changing, or the over long sentences. It's frustrating, because while some of the writing is good, other bits are clumsy. It seems a little inconsistent. But it's more than that. I'm not really engaging with the characters yet, and I'm finding it a little bit boring so far. I'm on page 37. I don't know if I'm going to continue with it or not
  10. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did Rennie
  11. Hi and welcome
  12. Oh yes I found the Collector disturbing too. Very claustrophobic and left me feeling a little depressed. I don't think I'd read the Marquis de Sade books either.
  13. It was pretty good thanks - lol no I didn't get bumped off. It was good fun, and we guessed correctly who had done it. It was a buffet dinner - stilton and broccoli quiche, cold meats, various yummy salads and potatoes and lemon dessert/strawberries and cream. Tonight: chilli
  14. I think they are mine too. I know - I had mixed feelings coming to the end of it. I was really excited to find out what happened but then knew that really would be the end of it all.
  15. You can spoiler it yourself using spoiler tag - highlight the word and click S, though not sure if you have enough posts to be able to edit your posts.
  16. Finished The Day of the Triffids Very enjoyable - although I've read/watched a tonne of these style stories now (although this must have been one of the first). I enjoyed reading this right up until the last page, although there was something about the dialogue that grated - I could just picture a very dated 1960s/1970s TV drama version. Maybe its my actual memories of the 70s TV series ... Anyway, I can forgive the dailogue, 8/10 - classic sci-fi. Next - Entertaining Angels by Joanna Bell, for the September reading circle. Read the prologue - so far so good.
  17. eating out tonight at a murder mystery evening I've never done it before, should be good fun
  18. I just use my blog on this forum here. I've never used Librarything. I don't think I could be bothered entering all my books. I used to use a couple of the bookish apps on facebook but I never kept them up to date, and I hardly ever go on facebook these days anyway.
  19. Oh wow No offence intended Robert.
  20. Hehe no problem :)

  21. It's a little unusual for genuine new members to jump right in with a review without introducing themselves first. If someone with just one or two posts jumps on board with dazzling review of a newly published book, then unfortunately it does look suspicious. I notice you haven't denied that you have any involvement with this book
  22. I've only read these two but loved them both.
  23. Ooh that's true, it says a lot about human nature. I remember reading it as a teenager, and being right in the thick of adolescent society I thought at the time, 'yea, that's about right'
