  1. Bought some great work shoes on the weekend. Got home turned them over and was stunned to see "Made in England" stamped on the bottom. Wonders will never cease!

  2. Sounds like you're enjoying you're reading lately Paula The forest of Hands and Teeth sounds great.
  3. Thanks both for your comments. Expectations can make or break a book/film/whatever, can't they? Just over half way through IT. Now I'm a bit behind my reading schedule for this so I did a lot of reading last night to try and catch up. But I must have overdone it as it took me an age to get to sleep. I've been coping with the horror of it quite well so far, but there was just so much mindless violence and cruelty in it yesterday, it really put me on a downer. Not a great way to wind down before bed! Probably Alex being away at the moment didn't help either. So I feel really tired today. I think I need to read something pleasant and lighthearted next - although my scheduled read is Clan of the Cave Bear book 1 and I have no idea whether that fits the bill or not. I hope so!
  4. Hola - I've been learning Spanish for the last couple of months in preparation for a holiday. It's good fun but I probably won't need it as I expect they'll all speak really good English. That said it's probably a useful language to have as it's so widely spoken. I'm hoping I'll keep it going after I get back. Nothing became of my short-lived French learning spurt above - I think I gave up after about a week lol.
  5. Ooh that's interesting. I had no idea she'd turned her hand to writing. What was it like? I see you only gave it 3 out of 5 so I'm guessing not fantastic?
  6. Oh wow! I'm impressed you were able to read it in French. I finished it today and have to say I was a little disappointed. It was OK but I felt fairly indifferent about it really. I think I had built it up too much and was expecting something amazing. To my mind it just wasn't one of those children's stories that works equally well for adults. Each to their own I guess. Hi Weave, how are you? Happy reading yourself
  7. Hey stranger. I'm good thanks. Nice to see you back here. Hope you're well?

  8. So I'm on schedule to finish IT by my holiday. I have to read 100 pages a week lol. Currently on page 462 and It's brilliant!! (no pun intended) Every book I read by SK just confirms to me what a great writer he is. The Little Prince is languishing but I'll pick it up soon and finish it. it's only really short after all.
  9. Yay - good to see you back. Hope you're well :-)

  10. cereal - pretty much always. Usually something reasonably healthy like muesli, weetabix or porridge. Very occasionally I'll have a piece of marmite on toast instead but I can't remember the last time I did that. The only exception is when I'm on holiday especially in a hotel or b&b when I enjoy a good fry up Frankie what is cotton cheese? Is that like cottage cheese?
  11. I'm so glad to hear you both say this. I have it on my shelf and am planning to read it after I finish IT. Actually it will be my holiday read
  12. It's great today isn't it. One of the best I think (although I really did like the pacman one)
  13. I listened to Crime and Punishment on audio cd earlier this year and loved it. I am interested to read The Brothers Karamzov but the length puts me off.
  14. Hey don't worry, you look like you read at the same pace as me! It's nice to have another mere mortal in the blog section
  15. Hi - haven't seen you around in a while. Hope you're OK :)

  16. I went to see Arthur at the cinema on the weekend. It was really good, very lighthearted and funny.
  17. Haven't got very far with The Little Prince - something about it isn't doing it for me, maybe it'll pick up, but IT is off to a flying start. The only thing that worries me about It is that it's 910 pages long, and the pages seem about double the size of some books! I really want to finish it before I go on holiday at the end of June as I am not putting that great tome in my suitcase. I really don't want to stop it and then start something else when I'm away, which I'll have to if I don't finish in time. I'm currently on page 98 - best get cracking
  18. I thought J K Rowling was contractually obliged to get her books out on time, what with the film franchise and everything. I might be wrong about that though.
  19. It's brilliant Habeebi. A real page-turner. I loved it. Frankie you have a treat ahead of you!
  20. My hardback copy of IT was too unwieldy to take the doctors taday, so I started The Little Prince so I'd have something to read in teh waiting room.
  21. Did it fall into your hand Janet
  22. Finished Acid Row last night. Loved it. I am definitely bumping The Shape of Snakes up the list! And will probably seek out more Minnette Walters in the future. I think I might start Stephen King's IT tonight - even though Alex is away
  23. Oh oh - 2 other people who have read this book!! Yes it was creepy - and strange - and beautiful. I loved this book - even if I didn't quite get it.
  24. The dark by itself isn't enough to spook me, I have to be alone in the house too. I never could read horror when I lived alone (not before bed anyway) but now I'm living with my fiance I'm well into my horror/ghostly stuff. I'm terrible with films too. I can't watch scary films on my own. I am very easily spooked
  25. Oh definitely pick it up kidsmum. It's a great read. Frankie thanks for your comments. I'm really looking forward to The Shape of Snakes. Maybe I'll try some of her others now too. Isn't it funny how a book can sit on your shelf for ages, and when you finally read it you wonder why you left such a gem there for so long?
