  1. a toasted cheese sandwich and a blueberry fruit corner yoghurt. Sounds very boring compared to everyone elses
  2. Hi and welcome Korrie. Nice to have you here. Don't feel out of your element, this is a very friendly place and no matter what you read i'm sure there are other people here who would share your tastes. As has already been said this is a very diverse group.
  3. A steak ciabatta with salad and chips
  4. I got called Rip Van Winkle once, (a few years ago in my early twenties) because I used to sleep all day and stay up all night Not these days of course. Now I'm much more sensible
  5. I like dry white wines, chardonnay and chablis. I never buy expensive wines, I rarely finish a bottle so it would be a waste. I don't like red wine (unless it is good quality) cheap red gives me a funny reaction. Chianti is nice but I do tend to avoid red.
  6. Finished My cousin Rachel last night. It's such a well written book. The internal tension of the central character is so well done, and the story, although somewhat slow paced, for me never lost momentum and I was always left wanting to know what happened next. There is a lot of drama, emotion and mystery in this book but in the end, the reason I enjoyed it some much was simply the high quality of the writing. Next - my penguin classic. Selected Writings of Meister Eckhart, a 12th century dominican monk. I've read the intro, now for the sermons...
  7. I found mine helpful for giving me some background and setting it in context otherwise I think I would have struggled seeing as I knew nothing about Meister Eckhart (although I haven't read the actual book yet)
  8. Oh well done H&D I've just finished the introduction to mine and I actually think I might enjoy it (fingers crossed)

    Yo..

Hi fan girl welcome to the forum, nice to have you here
  10. How short do you want them? There are some great short classics out there The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde is about 200 pages Animal Farm by Goerge Orwell is just over a hundred pages Of mice and men by John Steinbeck is about a hundred pages
  11. In no particular order: Gollum - The Hobbit/Lord of the Rings Anne Shirley - Anne of Green Gables Maggie Tulliver - The Mill on the floss Aslan - Chronicles of Narnia Uncle Andrew - The Magician's nephew Fiver - Watership Down Orr - Catch 22 Yosarian - Catch 22 Gabriel Syme - The man who was Thursday HeathCliff - Wuthering Heights (I don't mean I like him, I hate him ) and he's a favourite for that reason, if you know what I mean
  12. OK I know there is already a favourite character thread in the archives, but can you really narrow it down to just one? I haven't decided on mine yet but I'm pretty certain my final list will contain Aslan - Chronicles of Narnia Fiver - Watership Down So how about you? Who's in your top ten? ETA: Aarrgghh! Anybody know how to correct a spelling mistake in a thread title?
  13. I never liked Shakespeare when I was younger. As I teenager and even in my early twenties I just wasn't interested, but the older I get the more I grow to love his plays.
  14. I really should read some more Shakespeare. His use of language is amazing, he really was a genius. The plays I know are: Hamlet Macbeth The Tempest Antony and Cleopatra (did it for school, found it quite boring) A midsummer nights dream Much Ado about nothing (saw it in London, brilliant production) My favourite is The Tempest because it's so magical
  15. I'm not sure I've seen microwave ones with added powdered cheese. You could try batchelors pasta 'n sauce, it might be similar perhaps. The cheese and brocolli one is quite nice although I don't eat them myself anymore because they are full of hydrogenated fats.
  16. Has to be The Magician's Nephew for me. I love the wood between the worlds.
  17. Katie I live in Caerphilly in South Wales. You can probably see the castle on google earth which is about 5 minutes walk from my house. Good luck with your book. I am trying to write a book also, and its a lot harder than I thought it would be!
  18. Brussels pate on toast with cucumber and some orange juice. Mmm, just finished it.
  19. Nick Hornby High Fidelity especially if he's into music too.
