    Hi

    Hello and welcome:)
  2. The film is called the Golden Compass, and although I love the books, I won't be going to see it. In fact, because I love the books so much, I don't want to spoil it. I tried to listen to the audio version of the Subtle Knife while I was waiting for the book, but it was just so wrong I had to turn it off and just wait. It was spoiling it.
  3. I was just wondering this myself the other day! Personally, I think the first book is actually on of the weakest ones, I don't know if it's just that I've grown up a bit since reading them , and they're now a bit...I dunno...simple, dumbed-down...I still love it, though. I agree, I don't think it's necessarily the book itself, it's when they came out. And I'm seeing the 5th movie at half 4 today and I can't wait!
  4. Thanks guys
  5. I usually judge books pretty much by the cover!! The title is what catches my eye, then I'll look at the blurb and maybe read a few lines from the book itself. Also, if I can see the front cover (you usually can't at my school library) then often an interesting, intriguing (sp?) or just plain weird picture or cover catches my eye. For example, I first picked up The Gift, now one of my favourite books, because of a combination of the name (I wanted to know what the gift was) and the picture on the front (I wanted to know what it was and also it looked like a good fantasy object)
  6. I've not read anything by Neal Stephanson, I was just thinking of reading some Stephen King books as they seem to be very popular, and I was wondering if there's a particular one I should start with, and if there were any series I need to read in the right order.:)Thanks in advance:)

    hello

Hello and welcome! Hope you have a great time!
  9. No, but it's on my TBR list
  10. I didn't actually cry at this, but I did feel a few tears in my eyes and certainly made me feel really rather depressed - it's that bit about halfway through.....I think it's the Subtle Knife, but it could be the Amber Spyglass, when . It's descibed so well you can practically feel the pain and you just know how much it's hurting her. I had to stop reading just after that point cuz the lesson ended, so I read it the moment I got home!
  11. I've read Just In Case, and I have to say it is a very worthy winner!! I loved it

    Hi

    Hello and welcome!
  16. Hello and welcome to the forum Oblomov!
  17. I looked it up and found the character's name was spelled "Maninae" with two dots over the "e". That's worse than what I thought it was!
  18. So, Oblomov, what would you do if the character you liked DID die?
  19. That's exactly what I do!! Or else I just kind of make it up and say something that sounds right. In The Gift, the main character's called Maerad which took me a while to get the hang of until I found the notes on pronunciation at the front, and found out it was said "My-rad". Also, there's another character called Maninie:lol: - I think that's how you spell it but it has those two dots over the top of the "e" - and that's said "Man-in-eye-ee" which always makes me because I fit it into a tune for something else...I can't remember what the words were to start with... PS yay, I've gone up; I'm a Bibliophile, now! EDIT: I looked it up and found it is spelt Maninae - with two dot over the "e"! It's crazy!
  20. I don't think I've ever looked at the end, but when I was young (well, younger!) and I was reading a really scary book I'd go on a few chapters and scan it just to check the character was still alive!! I don't really think it was cheating, and it never spoiled the book for me, I was just getting a bit of reassurance. I'm pretty much the opposite, now: I get really annoyed if I accidentally go on and see a bit of what happens!

    Hi!

    Hello and welcome!
  23. The last show I went to see was the Spirit of the Horse Show: Chimera. It was AMAZING!
  24. WOOO!!Yay! My cousin's exactly the same! It's quite funny, really, he can read, spell, explain the meaning of, put in a sentance and give examples for words like aerodynamics, but he gets confused with "the" and stuff!!:lol:He's dyslexic, you see. Your son may enjoy "Boy, Tales of Childhood" by Roald Dahl, cuz it's very funny and kind of..I dunno, informal. It sounds like it's RD talking to you, and it's sort of easy to read, like it doesn't make you concentrate that much...I love "Boy"!! Bless him!
  25. I don't really know how I remember what's going on. I just kind of do!
